What’s better than live music? Free live music! Puerto Plata's humble little central park is open to the public and has a charming small-town feel. Wander over on Sundays and you're in for a real treat. You'll hear local artists playing on the sqaure. Maybe if you're brave enough, you'll find yourself dancing to the beat!

If learning a little history is on your to-do list, you've got to visit the Parque Historico La Isabela on the northwestern end of Puerto Plata. The historical park shows the remains of the site where Columbus first settled when he landed on the island of Hispaniola. There's also a museum where you can see how the native Tainos lived before Columbus.
