There are so many better options out there

ugh. The people that love this place are ones that haven't been anywhere else. And they will bully anyone that leaves a bad review on Facebook. It is so bizarre. Food was the worst I have ever had at a resort. Buffets and a la cartes. Only way to get something not at room temperature is the grill stations at buffet. If you think you will get something fresh by going early, you are wrong. It is yesterdays dried out food. Mexican a la carte is straight from the buffet. Chair wars in real! So many selfish entitled people here that 'reserve' chairs for hours without using. And there aren't enough chairs for anyone to use. Sad part is there is lots more space for more chairs. If you want to actually use a chair, you have to schedule your morning around getting one by 9am. Any later and you are SOL. Good points - staff are friendly and grounds and beach are beautiful. My husband and I have been to about 20 AI resorts throughout Mexico and the Caribean and this was one of the worst. Prefer almost every other chain - Grand Palladium, Iberostar, Princess, RIU and Royalton are all way better.

Beautiful resort, friendly staff but mediocre food.

We don't normally stay at all-inclusive resorts but did this time to join family for a week. The resort is huge and could be organized better, families with young children at one resort, young party animals at another resort and quiet older adults at the furthest resort. The layout was nice and landscaping was beautiful, loved the Mayan cultural influences. Rooms were comfortable. Food was only okay, meat was tough and dry, hot buffet items were not always hot. Food should have been better for the price of the resort.

    Vacation March 27 2025

A large well laid out resort with lots of amenities. This is our 4th time to this resort including getting married there. The food/restaurants are really pretty spectacular a bad or poor meal was never had. Premium Level we have used every time we have been to the resort and feel it is well worth the upgrade. Our room was starting to show some wear and tear from our first visit 10 years ago but that goes the same for us. We will return again.

    Atrocity, hardly a resort

More like torture , not a vacation. I would never recommend this “resort “ nor would I ever consider coming back. Check in process was three hours, forcing us to go back and forth from the rooms (25 min walks), saying the rooms were ready when they weren’t. They fogot to activate keys , so had to walk back for the 3rd time. By this time, after traveling all day it was unfathomable. I’m not sure how they can get away with treating their guests like this. The staff were very unkind, like I was bothering them for asking a simple question. The food was atrocious. The buffet is limited, all food sitting out, pasta station was laughable. I asked for some fresh chicken bc it was cold, they said there was no more. Food is not replenished all the time. It sits. I felt ill from it but didn’t have much of a choice because was unable to reserve any restaurants , they were full for the entire length of my stay. I had no choice but to check out and pay for another hotel. They refuse to give me any credit back. This place should be closed down. I can’t comprehend the good reviews. Fool me once.

Beach Hotel - Very large resort complex

We stayed at the Barcelo Maya Beach from the 6th to the 13th of April. Our room was the Oceanfront Junior Suite Premium Section. Tulum building. Room: The room was very clean and comfortable. We had a ground level with a large patio with jacuzzi tub. Never used the tub at all but nice addition. There was a small table, two chairs, 2 lounge chairs with a small table so you could sunbath right there if you would like. We had a king size bed which was comfortable but the pillows were super soft so not very comfortable. Two couches that could be used as single beds for kids. The bathroom is a little awkward as there isn’t a door. They do have a door on the toilet area. Large closet with a digital safe that is big enough for a full size laptop. A bench area with two large drawers. Maid service and mini fridge refills were great. One night someone decided to take everyone’s do not disturb tags off of the doors in our entire area. This is just someone being rude and hoping everyone gets disturbed in the morning. Our room was very close to the pool with the bar. Pool: The pool is large with many different sections. The chair game is a definite challenge and we ended up going out very early to get chairs. We do use our chairs everyday all day. Some people would take chairs and never come back. Service around the pool is not good. That doesn’t change with tips. There was one exception and that was Ilene. She was great and always had a smile. Ended up walking through the pool a lot to get a drink. You could walk up but there was always a line. We did see quite a few leaves in the pool but it was quite windy most afternoons. Beach: Again chairs are a challenge. Water is lovely and clear. Beach is sandy. Quite shallow for a long way off of beach. Not real easy to walk as it has a slope. Many people snorkeling. Food: They made 4 of our reservations for us before we arrived but that didn’t work for us as we were traveling with other couples. We all ended up different restaurants at different times. We only went to the Italian as we managed to get added on to our friends. I say it was just fine. Service was much better though. We did the buffet every morning and enjoyed the omelette station for fresh cooked omelettes or eggs. Trays were replenished quickly and they had so much variety there would be no reason to go hungry. We did have mimosas and baileys with our coffee every morning. The buffet in the evening was good variety as well. We never went hungry that’s for sure. Only problem is again the service. Not sure why morel at this hotel is so low but they need to do something so the staff want to be there. Grounds: The grounds are very nice and well kept. We found this property very large with all the different hotels and amenities. There is an actual mall on the complex along with mini golf, kids water park, sports bar with bowling and a market place with local vendors. They even have their own little fire department. There is a double decker bus that will take you around. In conclusion we found this place too big for us but if you enjoy all the amenities I’m sure you would love it. We have been to many many resorts in Mexico and we are used to staff that care if you are there. The staff in the premium lounge were fantastic and the front desk and bellmen were pleasant and helpful
