Place to avoid
Past its prime. No one cares and is so stuck on using old systems their ability to handle any roadbump turns into antagonistic behavior. I had an extremely unpleasant experience with the night manager. I was told there was an issue with processing my credit card that was used during check in (although they successfully processed it for the spa). Due to Marriott's antiquated accounting system, they couldn't process any further payments (no issue on my end), the night manager treated me like a criminal and threatened to evict my family from the property in the middle of the night. The night manager admitted the accounting system had issues and could not give any explanation as to why they were failing. Instead of working with me to come to a better resolution or waiting until the morning to get a hold of accounting support I was meant with extreme suspicion. This on top of the resort losing power for half a day with no hot food, AC, lights, etc... available. This place is on my avoid list.

First Impressions Are Everything
We arrived yesterday and First impressions are everything. Sadly the lady Cami at the front desk for check in provided a horrible first impression. During our check in we inquired about why are room was changed from a king bed to two doubles as we preferred the king. She made it seem as if this was a hardship to her day. After confirming that we could have the room we booked she handed us our keys with no explanation of what the blue bands were for, the resort, or what the resort fee included. I had to go back to the front desk later to inquire. The way we were treated was a stark contrast to the two other couples checking in at the same time. The way Cami treated us has left a very sour taste. Our room is nice, spacious. The bed is hard and not comfy in my opinion. The bathroom does show some age but overall the room is nice. You can however hear every time another room closes their door. The wall adjacent to the hallway is not very sound insulated. The bellhop was very welcoming and kind, I will work to find out his name and update. He told us about features in the room. As we continue our stay I will update my post but wanted to share for now.

Lovely resort with a few suggestions for improvement
Lovely property, beautiful grounds, amazing service and convenient location. We were there during very busy winter break and I was impressed by the excellent service all around from check-in to dealing with minor A/C issues to cleaning to restaurants. The resort is large and never felt very crowded especially given the time of our visit. Nice rooms. Daily chocolates for Bonvoy elite members was an appreciated touch. I thought the walk to the beach was not bad at all. We had better success getting an umbrella and beach chairs at the Ulua beach than Wailea beach. It also has some trees that provide shade if no umbrella is available. Enjoyed the Starbucks on the property and the pizza truck. Kids liked the game room. CONS: 1) The wi-fi was terrible throughout the resort including in our room. I barely had connectivity even with enhanced internet through Bonvoy elite status and had to use my phone hotspot for work most of the time. This is unacceptable and needs to be addressed. 2) The gym needs improvement particularly free weights. Gym was fairly busy at all times. It has limited dumbbells, one cable machine plus some weight machines. Would have been nice to have a couple barbells and squat rack plus more dumbbells. Overall I would give this resort 4.5 stars.

Great resort for families
Overall, this is a beautiful resort with exceptional service and great pools. The rooms are clean but unimpressive and the bathrooms are pretty basic. I will start with the cons: the on-site restaurant was very expensive and the food was surprisingly and consistently bad. Apparently this is well known. The Kapa restaurant by the pool was okay. The food at Olakino pool was good. The little market and Starbucks on the resort were the best bet for food. There is also a large outdoor mall a block away with a number of casual and nicer restaurants which are both better and more reasonably priced. If you walk down the beach a bit you can find restaurants at neighboring resorts. Duo was great. The pros: The resort grounds are gorgeous and the staff is really exceptional. There are a lot of small touches that are really nice: mochi and popsicles handed out at the pools, daily chocolate at the front desk, daily Hawaiian crafts, lessons, and yoga. The concierge was very helpful in setting up whale watching for is. There are several great pools with views over the ocean and the sunset. We spent one day at the reservation-only Olakino pool and highly recommend it. It’s small, quiet, and lovely. The fee ($200 per person including $50 food credit or $100 for a half day) gets you a lounger, a fantastic pool attendant (our, Kalvyn, was nice, helpful, and very kind), a chair massage, a couple of treats, live music in the afternoon. It was my favorite day on the trip. Rooms: We got a deluxe ocean view room in the main building next to the lobby. We liked the location near everything and the view was pretty—other than the service road behind the building. However, there was a lot of construction and renovation going on and the noise was unpleasant during the day. The resort itself is so pretty and there are so many places to sit and enjoy the views that i would not recommend spending extra for a view room. Spend that extra $200+ a night on the Olakino pool! The other buildings had rooms with patios that opened on the pool areas which looked nice but were apparently pretty loud. There is no executive lounge at the resort. Overall we enjoyed our stay here aside from the food. Maui is expensive—plan for double what you would pay in a big city on the mainland. And then just enjoy the gorgeous island.

This hotel resort property has guest service figured out.
A beautiful property with attentive and professional staff. I was contacted by Mary S several weeks prior to my stay offering me an upgrade to an oceanfront room for an additional $200 per night. Since my husband and I were celebrating our 36th Wedding Anniversary I took her up on her offer and I was so glad I did. We valet parked our car and were greeted by EJ, welcoming us to The Wailea Beach Resort. He took care of our bags and made sure we know where check in was. At check in we were given POG juice and Kukui nut leis by the front desk attendant, who I am so sorry I didn't get her name, she was so pleasant and informative. After oohing and aahing over our room and view we went for a walk around the property and stopped in to Kapa for some Mai Tai's and appetizers. Brad was our bartender, he was attentive and made some great recommendations. Upon returning to our room flowers my husband had ordered prior to our arrival were in our room with a split of Prosecco. These flowers were the mast amazing tropical flowers I had ever received. Well done by my husband and of course the florist on property. Our room rate included the breakfast buffet the flowing morning at Humble Market Kitchin (not a mis-spelling, that's they way it's spelled). Kate was our server who was so on top of coffee refills, plate removal and recommendations on what was really good from the buffet that included everything from fresh fruit, pastries, waffles, pancakes, bacon, Portuguese sausage, Korean fried chicken and Scrambled Eggs. Lastly, I'm not sure what they put in their signature lotion but it smells amazing, I checked with the gift shop as well as the onsite Spa and neither location sold the lotion. I happen to run across a sweet room attendant and when I asked where I could get some she handed me to little bottles.. Thank you so much to everyone at the Wailea Beach Resort. We will be back next year and for a longer stay!
