First Costa Rica trip
We have been to the Caribbean 11 or so times but our first trip to Costa Rica. Likely wont be last. Some general comments: Our favorite part of CR was the tour. It was a day long tour (~11 hrs). We went to a couple of waterfalls (Rio Celeste was a good experience and we even saw a baby eyelash viper sunning itself by the trail on the hike to the fall). We toured a privately maintained rain forest nature reserve (there are a few different ones I believe). Saw many different birds (including a mot mot, blue gray tanager and toucan of course), sloths, a tapir, a couple of frogs. Kids (11 and 16) loved this experience. Wish we could have done more excursions but didn't have time. Eric G (guy in blue google t-shirt) on the beach set us up. He is an expert with over 2 decades of experience, and I got the feeling very honest about pros and cons. We had a very good experience and would highly recommend him. Beach was very good. Beautiful water, and great backdrop with low lying cliffs that form the bay. Lots of big trees make it shady and interesting. Good for walks though there are some horse tours / evidence of horse tours you have to watch for. Kids thought this was one of the more interesting/fun beaches because of the waves. The waves were not very high but were fairly strong because of the way the beach slopes into the water, and my 11 yr old daughter spent hours "body surfing" the waves. There were more people in the water than we usually see in other resorts. Didn't really have an issue finding chairs and there were plenty of trees providing shade. Big nice pool that was fairly lively. Seating was tricky later in the day because of "towel reservations". There were two ping pong tables and a few pool tables, so it was easy to get a spot. Kids spend quite a bit of time there. Lunch at La Sabana was pretty good. I liked the fish tacos and whole fried fish. Lunch pizza at Spirula was very good. Dinner at Spirula was good as well. The buffet was a little more limited than some other resorts we have been to. Some stations are not self-service, and particularly the fruit station servings tend to be smaller and I (and several other guests) had to ask for additional slices pretty much every day. Faisanella was a bit of hit and miss. Lamb shank was good, Steak was underdone. The St Tropez Tart was two buns with some lemon filling between (no fruits). However in our experience this kind of mixed experience is to be expected in many AI resorts. Overall no real issues of any kind and definitely some good experiences. This property is designed similarly to Paradisus resorts in Punta Cana ( our favorite resort in DR) and spreads out over a large area. We like the open style (as opposed to multi story denser footprints) but going back and forth between beach-room-pool-meals can be a bit time consuming (particularly for not very organized folks like us). We got a premium suite near all the activities and that was really convenient. Would recommend the same if possible. Though golf cart service was very good, so not a big deal for most. Overall the most relaxed week of 2024 (maybe even including 2023) for me, so a great trip!

2 star resort
Old property that needs lot of work for it's name. We stayed for 4 days and food at the main mitra market was never fresh and didn't have much choices, not enough staff so service is also poor as we had to wait for drinks, literally only one fresh pepper grinder in the entire restaurant and if you are a hot tea drinker then your water will be like warm in all their restaurants. Bamboo Asian bistro is a shame so DO NOT waste your time booking a dinner.

Westin Resort, TUI Destination Services, Guanacaste, Costa Rica
Visited Westin Resort in Guanacaste, Costa Rica in December 2024. Very well kept resort with excellent amenities. They have an on-site desk of the tour company Destination Services. The staff at Destination Services helped answer all excursion questions and did an excellent job of recommending the best excursion for our family of 4. We had arranged for airport pickup and drop off with them too. Great, professional service, in every respect. The pickup person, Daniel, gave us a “guided tour “ of everything we passed by in our 1.5 hour drive from Liberia airport to the resort. He was FANTASTIC!! Spoke with such pride about his country, it got us even more excited to explore! Highly recommend Destination Services at Westin. Wish I had their website to provide a link here. They are connected to TUI Destination Services I believe.

Great time at the Westin!
We are just winding down our stay at the Westin. Only great things to say. The Family area at the pool was amazing. Definitely worth doing the Westin family booking if you can. Service everywhere was top notch. The resort is very clean and it’s so cool to be able to see animals in their own habitat on the grounds (iguanas and howling monkeys are highlights). Want to note food service - we have a very picky eater and at every meal our requests were met without question. Off resort highlight was surfing for us! Erik G. helped us organize. (You’ll see him wearing a blue Google shirt on the hotel beach - we googled him and he was VERY responsive via What’s App including helping with last minute cancellations from another guide). Can’t say enough about him! We had a great week at the Westin and are sad to be leaving but wanted to share if you are thinking about booking here, we highly recommend.

Top All-Inclusive spot!!
This was our first time in Costa Rica. I highly recommend this resort for anyone visiting Costa Rica for the first time. My fiance and I traveled to Costa Rica with his best friend and his wife. We had a great time at the resort. We booked through Costco Travel and highly recommend them as a travel source. Prior to traveling to Costa Rica, I checked out the reviews on TripAdvisor and the best one was from Feffer911. This review will add from our perspective. First, impression is that as an all inclusive goes this was top notch with respect to food and drinks offered. Second, if you don't want to leave the resort you do not have to. The property has everything except Sloths, tree frogs and snakes. But most of the animals roam freely on the property from Howler Monkeys to iguanas. Third, the staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms - We stayed in a bungalow overlooking the golf course. This was a very beautiful view. The rooms were very nice. One drawback would be where they have the closet. It is on the first floor. You have to go around the corner to get to the bedroom, so you have to walk around to the living room to get dressed, which is odd. Food - They have several restaurants. Two of them you don't need reservations; Mitra Market and El Ranchito. It was difficult to determine the dress code for the restaurants. Most reviews seemed to indicate that you have to wear dresses and collared shirts and pants for men. We found this was not the truth. If you download the app, the app will tell you the dress code. Most of them say casual dress for most of the restaurants. We had reservations at: Manglar, Faisanella and Bamboo. I would highly recommend Faisanella and Bamboo. The food from appetizers to entree were very good. We were not impressed with Manglar. They offered Octopus, which we ordered but it was served burnt. All of the restaurants have what they call a "Premium" menu that has an upcharge. In my opinion, the meals offered are top notch without you paying an extra charge, but that goes to preference. If I travel back, I would probably just eat at Mitra. They offer 4 different stations and are opened for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The versatility in what they offer is quite good. El Ranchito is only open for lunch time around the pool. Drinks - They serve alcohol!! Most of the drinks were very well done and the liquor is recognizable. LOL!! And they don't hold back on the alcohol like other places. Spa - Very Nice, but I wish they explained the different types of treatments better. I took advantage of the 80 min. detox massage. They also have a hot tub, mineral spa and pool that you can use once you have your treatment. Tours - We did a private tour with Costaricasbestchoice.com. If you want to take a tour, there are several different companies to choose from. We selected this one based on a recommendation from one of our golf cart drivers. The private tour, in my opinion was not more expensive than the regular tour. What it did offer us was the ability to go from each spot at our leisure. Our tour guide, Olman Sosa was great. He answered all of our questions and was very helpful. We went to Bijagua and visited Catarata Waterfall(note: less steps than the Blue waterfall to get to), a Natural rainforest, lunch at a local restaurant, Cafe & Cacao tour and a our last stop was for souvenirs. We had a great time. Be prepared all tours last several hours. We started at 6:30 and arrived back at 4:30pm.
