Good experience with excursions, poor experience with management

For how much we paid, this was a good experience. A pro was the ability to participate in an excursion each day, which was included in our stay. Our favorite excursion was the snorkel trip to El Cielo and our guides, Jaciel and Edgar, were fantastic. The wait staff and bartenders were also great and polite throughout our stay. Food was pretty good, and we loved the shrimp tacos at the Cevicheria. The food at the Asian restaurant was not very good. The major drawback of our stay was being pestered about the “presentation” for a rewards program / timeshare on multiple occasions. Management clearly treated us differently when we said no to the presentation. We were at the front desk at one point making a reservation for one of the restaurants and we could understand management talking about us in Spanish to their manager/boss, which we found rude and extremely disrespectful. This experience makes me think twice about ever going back to the Explorean.

    Back on the right track

We have visited many times, but skipped last year due to the beach facilities being closed combined with the pools that desperately needed repair. We are happy to report the resort is back to its former glory with all the things that made it our favorite. Service was excellent at both the Explorean and Fiesta Americana, especially Juan the FA bartender, Arturo at the FA breakfast buffet, Edgar and Jasiel (sp?) for the snorkel tour, Miguel at the FA pool, and so many others. We go to this resort because we like the nature, snorkeling and laid back vibe. Food was good overall, with a few misses here and there. Fish tacos were as yummy as ever. I think the Explorean dinner menu could use a revamp, though, as it hasn't changed for a long time. Overall, we had an amazing and relaxing time - we'll be back!

    Stay at Enchanted

The trip was fantastic, the many experiences were very well setup, easy and incredible. We snorkeled everyday, rode in a buggy around the island, kayaked and scuba dived at chankanaab and our guides were so welcoming, kind and excited, Jassiel and Armando were especially fantastic.

    Relaxing vacation

The hotel itself is very pretty. It’s tucked away behind the Fiesta Americana (FA) surrounded by jungle. The room itself was large, bed was a little firm but not bad. The bathroom was large and the shower was nice with both rainfall and hand held shower heads. The one thing we did not like was there is no TV in any of the rooms. We like watching TV in bed at the end of a long day at the pool so it was kind of a bummer. Thank goodness we brought our iPad. They bring you coffee, juice and some banana muffins in a basket to your door each morning. We never drank the coffee as it was cold. We went to the coffee shop at the FA and it was great coffee. The pool is small with just a handful of chairs and 4 cabanas. We did not use the pool there, preferring the one at FA. We ate at the restaurant twice and food was pretty good. The excursions were nice. We only did 2 while here. The buggy ride to the tequila factory. kKind of a joke as it’s not really a factory you get to taste 3 samples then they try to sell you expensive tequila. The beach we then went to had such rough waves you couldn’t get in. We also did the snorkeling tour which was fun. Saw a few fish, tons of Star fish and lots of stingrays. We spent most of our time at FA. The buffets were good, pool service was excellent. Miguel was our waiter and he was amazing! He will bring you drinks or food from the snack bar (hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, wings, nachos etc) The pool here is large and recently remodeled. As for the “beach” there really isn’t one. You can walk down steps into the ocean where it’s too deep to touch bottom but there’s no beach entry. A few things they need to improve on. They don’t provide you a map of either resort, a list of what restaurants are open and when they’re closed. That’s an easy fix for them. The staff at Explorean were not super friendly or helpful either. The FA staff were all great. Would I come back? If you’re looking for a beach, maybe try another resort. If you want to relax by the pool and do some excursions then yes stay here. Next time though I would probably go back to Iberostar or stay at FA.
