    Here for a 70th birthday

Great trip, would recommend the sun club, Ignacio “nacho” and Josue were great!!! Rooms were clean, all our rooms had great views, beach was pretty angry a few days so enjoyed the pool. De Marco was the best restaurant would recommend for sure

    Good value for our money

Pros: Beautiful clean beach and pool. Pool was good for all ages at only 4 foot deep No shortage of lounge chairs Good security and attentive life guards Italian restaurant and the snack wagon were good Room was clean and had good water pressure for the shower Plenty of closet space for our clothes Beds were comfortable Cons Loud air conditioning Poor lighting in the washroom (no makeup mirror for my wife) Not enough English literature on daily events Better literature on resort information and events would help (maybe add the information on a digital reader board rather than the small printed flyer on the wall)

    Hoped for more

We came here expecting a budget hotel but even our lower expectations were not met. First, let me say, the location and weather is perfect but that is where the pros end. As others have stated, the food is just OK. In fact, three of us got sick on the trip. There is very limited food options, including drink options. Pool chairs are falling apart. Water toys in splash area are broken or failing apart. Tile missing in pool, which ends up cutting feet. Fun area had a dead rat on the ground. The outside of the building is missing siding which just makes it look rundown. You don’t know what will be open until the day of when they post the activities. Some days only one outside bar is open. Water slides not turned on at a consistent time. The smart ones seem to stay for no more than two nights. Anything longer is just too much. We will be back to the area but not this hotel and most likely not this hotel chain. Sad, as it had such potential.

    Beware of the food......

I will start with we have been to different parts of Mexico 30 times, this was our first in Ixtapa, I will definitely return to Ixtapa but would never stay at Sunscape. I will start with the CON and it is a big CON: the food was TERRIBLE with the exception of the omelet station and the Italian restaurant(somewhat). The buffet was very small, the food was cold and there was not a great selection. You would think at lunch they would have cold cuts and cheese ect, but it was the same stuff they served at dinner the night before. The "food truck" served cold French fries and buns that were so hard they could break a window with it. I got sick from the Tuesday after we arrived, have been home for 3 days and am still not well. Many people we met during this trip complained about bad bellies as well. I am not hard to please as I am not a picky eater and will try just about anything but when there are empty trays, everything has the same sauce and does not look appealing at all, I would rather go without. When you book an all inclusive vacation you expect decent food, not to have to spend extra money to go eat elsewhere. The drinks taste like they are made with rocket fuel, I ordered a vodka margarita, pretty simple....every time I sent it back or left it so again, spent money going out to purchase my own alcohol. Do not expect the al a carte's all to open, they are rotating and when they have " specialty nights" the buffet is closed. Our second to last night at both restaurants we were told that the wait would be around 2 hours, not sure how that is possible when they were only at 40% capacity except it must have been the day pass people..... I also emailed 2 weeks before we arrived to let them know we were coming to celebrate our anniversary in Mexico like we do every year, they acknowledge my email and responded (including me on an internal email where they said I have high expectations) but they still did not offer anything to us, not a bottle of champagne, or a nicer room. The resort is dated, it really needs a lot of work, concrete on the patios needs to be repaired, painting needs to be done everywhere. The spa flyer in the room is in Spanish only so had no idea what they offered. Would be nice if the mini-bar was filled every day, you only get 2 pop and 2 beer the day that you check in then have to pay after that, good thing there is a great little market across the street that you can get beer, pop, bread, peanut butter!!!! Pros: The beds and pillows are very comfortable, we had the best sleeps while we were there, we did not hear any noise. The location is great, very easy to jump on the local bus and get to where you need to go. The staff is very nice with the exception of one of the attendant around the pool questioning me why I had 2 chairs, one for me and one for my husband who was in the pool but because a Mexican couple wanted the 2 end chairs they asked him for mine!! The young lady that made my cappuccino every morning and every evening works very hard and she always had a smile on her face. The lobby bar bartenders were very friendly and made great drinks, too bad they don't open until the evening. The bellmen and the security at the front gate were very nice, very friendly and engaging. We will definitely be coming back to Ixtapa, this is our new favorite place but we will never stay at a Sunscape again, there are better options to chose from for resorts.

    Postcard Sunsets

Great location, clean hotel, and exceptional service! Sand on the beach was clean and fine grade--very walkable before the sun heats it up. (Wear aqua socks.) Hotel is close to off-site restaurants and entertainment. Drink selection could use a little bit of an upgrade.
