Lovely Family Christmas 2024 Stay at Spice Island Beach Resort!

We had a really lovely family holiday at SIBR with some lovely highlights. We'd definitely go back sometime – though probably not at a peak time. Long read coming, sorry: + For the first four or so days it felt like we had the place to ourselves .. the resort must only have been around half occupied before schools broke up and it was great – really personal service, everything was fast, the beach was practically empty etc. (there’s another side to that below...) + We had two lovely rooms, even if they were the most basic Garden Suites ... there was plenty of space, they were nice and cool, 2 mins from the beach & main resort centre, kept very clean, nicely stocked mini bar, plenty of towels, generally very good. We were happier I think to be set back a little bit into the resort as the beachfront rooms are literally steps from the public beach and maybe didn't have as much privacy. The second (sofa) bed in the boys' room was decent. + SIBR is a very nice, high quality property throughout (though maybe not middle east 5* quality) .. it has a decent small gym (though some of the equipment disappeared mid-stay - maybe being replaced) and a very nice spa which we used. + The food was consistently very good .. our boys weren’t always up for the slightly fancier meals in the main restaurant but the staff were always happy to do some fresh fish or meat with fries & vegetables. In our view there was enough variety across the two options for dinner and we definitely didn’t go short of food! They also offered an afternoon tea option every day which we didn’t go need to go anywhere near! The less formal restaurant was open most nights and our boys preferred that menu – but that’s where the young families ate and it was sometimes a bit chaotic/loud. Breakfast was very good and lunch too. We enjoyed very much the occasional BBQs for lunch. + Resort location was excellent .. the Grand Anse beach is great (though definitely not one of the best in the world) and the resort is really well positioned at the quieter end of it. The sea was fantastic for swimming in (though there are hardly any fish etc to see). It was nice to walk along for a few km, though as it’s a public beach, the livelier end was pretty lively at weekends with sometimes some really loud party boats moored just off the beach. + Some of the service in the bar & restaurants and throughout was absolutely top notch – regularly addressed by name and some lovely touches (opened the gym early for us, delivered oat milk to the room, we mentioned one of the boys had burned and they delivered fresh aloe vera to the room for example). Some of the F&B staff were the best we’ve had anywhere - e.g. Katrina & Lyndonna (and others, sorry we didn't get more names) + We liked Grenada a lot – it's beautiful, small enough to get around easily; we did a nice tour organised through the local agent; it felt safe. There were a few things we were disappointed with and had to raise a couple of them with the hotel (not really addressed): - When the hotel filled up around Christmas Eve/Day, the service notably dropped off. It felt a touch over-full and we had quite a few meals which took too long, parts of the order were missed, drinks took ages, water refills had to be chased. Really small points individually but added together and done multiple times got quite annoying. We were probably a bit spoiled by the first half of our stay. A lot of guests were families with young kids (we have no problem at all with that having been through it for many years!) but the last couple of lunches and especially the last breakfast were chaotic and not relaxing. - We have food intolerance in the family which the staff ask about and we clearly mentioned when checking in. For the first few days they were great at managing it – not letting us order anything inappropriate, suggesting & even making alternatives. But after those few days they totally forgot about it (apart from Katrina) – really not so good. Hopefully they do a better job with allergies rather than intolerance. We raised both of these points with reception who said the manager would probably want to get in touch to discuss but that didn’t happen. - They had an entertainment schedule which was a bit of a mystery to us (I found on the last but one day it was posted on the reception desk so it was probably my bad) – so we had no real idea what was happening... and we missed out on a sunset boat cruise because no-one told us until too late it was happening. We really liked Fabian who was in charge of it - saw him regularly and loved his energy and care for guests having a good time. The resort had some really good evening music ... but often they were playing to a handful of people after dinner because many guests had gone to bed well before 10pm. All in all though it was a really lovely holiday and we'd love to be back there right now. Maybe just about worth the price. In Tripadvisor terms half was 5*, half was 4* maybe. We’d stay at SIBR again for sure, but not during a peak school holiday period. We rounded up to 5* on balance because of some of the superb staff. Thanks for a lovely time.

    Magnificent

Old fashioned elegance with service to match. Set in an idyllic location at the end of Grand Anse Beach, it rests on a dreamy section of the beach, provides superb food, and the staff that are determined to ensure you have a wonderful experience.

    Simply Put, Paradise.

Spice Island Beach Resort - Grenada Dec 2024 - leaving tomorrow :( Grenada much like many of the smaller Caribbean islands are often overlooked due to cost, flight connections and general inconvenience to reach, myself included, simplicity got us in the same old locations but we try... This was our first trip without our children and it was serene and wonderful. They may be kid friendly, but it’s definitely a quieter, tranquille resort, where after 1030/11pm everything is done… That said, this place is a pink pearl of a gem in a drop in the bucket of hotels in the Caribbean, it's no wonder it's a 6 Star Diamond award winner, it's truly a slice of heaven. Please vote for Spice Island to earn it’s 6th star, it’s seemingly always in contention! For anyone considering island honeymoon, or simply a week in paradise, luxury and can afford it (I recognize this wasn't free nor at high season), it is truly magnificent. Worth every dollar and hour spent getting here. Remains to this day a small (64 room but never really at capacity) boutique hotel privately owned by the front and center Hopkin Family. The second you are out of the transfer, your bags are handled, smiles are provided in abundance, care and the little details that leave a lasting reminder of what true service excellence, true customer experience, care and how wonder humans can be to one another. You are guided by a Manager or higher through check in, provided cold face towels and a prosecco to refresh you upon entry. You are walked to your room, your room laid out for you, any and all small requests handled in a timely and professional fashion. It's marvelous. Breakfast = a small buffet of pastries, cereal, juices and fresh fruit that you point to and a Buffet Station waiter will provide you, a la carte is also there. Breakfast is about 45mins altogether. Upon completion as you exit, you make lunch reservation time and select the same for dinner with both being a la carte and various menu options. Lunch - similar relaxed dress code but the British and the staff expect t shirts, shorts and women to wear a proper cover up, none of these trashy see through things... show them that respect and they in turn will wait on you hand and foot... including again little things like a purse hook for the table. Incredible. Dinner, is a 1.5-2hour process, 3 course meal. Truly the BEST food we have had in all our island vacations (Turks, Antigua, Barbados,DR, Mexico, etc. we’ve travelled well...) and it's not close, maybe St Vincent (Palm Island), else, without a blink no surprise the #1 Hotel of the country on the #1 beach of the country. On the menu, Lamb, duck, chicken, pork, veal, seafood (lobster, scallops, shrimp)... Name it they will figure it out and make it. It's one of a kind. The deliver of the dishes is all Michelin star level. Clean dishes, nothing out of place, comfortable portions but not silly. It's an experience, people say "it's a vibe..." well it's more than just that. Our room is Seagrape Beachfront and it's the best. The staff say lots have reserved the private pool rooms but the beachfront is untouchable, you have 2 private beach chair, umbrella, hammock, sofa and table set outside which is 20 yards from the PRESTINE generally calm waters surrounding the country. It's gorgeous, it's not Turks, but it's a 2nd place for us and Aruba is upcoming in a few weeks, so will see... There is a kids club, but there's 2 kids here in total. Mostly for adults. That said, I did peek at the kids menu and was slightly jealous ! Night time bar is lively, again, the people are great, and no matter how busy it is, you'll never see the bottom of your Glass, they're great. It's slow in tempo but slow and steady. Dress code for dinner is a thing. They make sure you respect the rules...that said, servers circulating with Rose, Red and White wine, etc. All alcohols are top shelf, by brand and cocktail made properly, nit like other resorts with freepouring… Tipping helps, they're already very caring and gracious this just makes them go above and beyond. We went for a walk to their local Supermarket (500m away) and it's cute, some stores, and an IGA... yes the grocery store. They have everything! It's slightly overpriced but it's got ALL snack options, meals, meats, alcohols, fruits, literally an IGA. Very safe to venture around. Housekeeping and Mini bar restocked with care, took note of your preferences and made sure to stock them. We were in Room #40 and truly was amazing… This place can only be described as the cream de la creme and that's doing it a disservice. Simply. Wow. TripAdvisor has a lot of reviews, all 5 stars, no surprise to me at all even though I was skeptical coming in… Absolute paradise. Shout out to Seymor, Nia, Kenitta, Fabian and the management team, always willing to help out. Katrina, Shawn, Tracey, Shirlyn, Kevin, Lyndonna, Rachel, Reannah, Kaleshur  ans the countless others whom I may have forgotten, THANK YOU.

    Best Vacation Experience

Just returned from a week's vacation at Spice Island Beach Resort and the total experience was far above our expectations. From the minute you arrive you know you are in a special place. Service is a priority and it shows. Every staff member you meet is freindly and most of them know your name shortly after you arrive. The concierge went above and beyond in arranging for something to be picked up for us that wasn't available at the store near the resort. Food was fantastic with a nice selection at each meal to accomodate all tastes. Every meal, with the excpetion of a wonderful buffet lunch on Sunday, you order from a menu with a selection of starters, entrees and desserts. We had a Sea Grape Suite right on the beach which was wonderful. The room was bigger than a normal hotel room and had every ammenity you need including a patio overlooking the beach and lounge chairs right on the beach. Also, the beach is very quiet in front of the resort so you feel as though you have your own private beach. The dedication to excellence is the reason Spice Island has been around since 1961 and it shows. It had been 40+ years since my last trip to Grenada and while some things have changed the charm and friendliness of the people is still the same.
