    Disappointed guest

The standards have lowered significantly since Hyatt took over management of this hotel, welcome to the Flea market, lobster and steak for sale at the Altitude and Italian restaurant, keep in mind this is supposedly an all-inclusive 4-5 star hotel, soon when they resume the daily juice cart, you will be paying for the coconut, just like the Cabanas at the poolside, nowhere for you to be at the poolside unless you are willing to purchase a cabana starting at $100. US per day, also new is items from the gift shops are peddled on the grounds throughout the day, jerk cart is back for lunch, but removed for the night, so no more jerk chicken after hours. After visiting this property an average of three times per year for the past 8-9 years, I have seen better times, shame on this new management. Thanks to the entertainment crew, the lifeguards and servers whom we have became friendly with over the years, as they are our main reason for visiting this hotel.

    Resort was Great!!!

Overall it was one of the best resports I have vacationed at. The scenery was fantastic, the food was ok and the entertainment at the pool was ok. We would vacation here again but I didn't like the seaweed in the ocean. The views were amazing and weather was good.

    Great Birthday Treat

We arrived at WO late at night to be told our reservation did not exist and had nothing on the system for us (cannot positively say this was their fault as we booked through a travel agent) but on seeing how shattered and upset I was and that we were there for my birthday, they couldn't have been nicer. We got to a room but were given a Preferred Room Key so whilst we had a basic room, we got all the other perks which was super kind. However on finally getting our heads down, we were woken up to a group coming back to the room next to us and deciding to have a party. There was a partitioning door between us which meant we heard everything. I went to reception and told them we couldn't stand this for a whole week. Without hesitation, they moved us to a much quieter room on the opposite side of the building which we couldn't have been more grateful for. Overall, this place is great. All talk of having to wait for dinner is not something we experienced. However, yes you may well have to wait a little to get a table. There are hundreds of people here and all trying to achieve the same thing, hardly illogical if you may have to wait a bit! Service was incredibly friendly. I wouldn't say it was super speedy but we were on holiday and not like we had a train to catch so it was all good! The drinks service by the pool/beach was great and again, staff couldn't have been friendlier. Quick note on Preferred amenities- very glad and grateful we got it. The main pools can be quite busy and loud and so Preferred allows the chance for some quiet. Breathless is also a good place to go where it is quieter and the restaurants are very good. However, nobody checked our room key at any stage when accessing Breathless/beach/pool etc etc. This I think would grate on me had I paid for the upgrade. Also- the sunbed game really isn't a thing. If everyone stopped reserving beds at 5am (which is completely unnecessary) then I don't think those reviews would appear. We never struggled for a bed anywhere though. The only reason I docked a 'star' is simply because of the incessant use of sound bars by guests on the beach, both in Preferred and not. It was unbelievably irritating. Also, we noticed that a group who decided to inflict us with their awful sense in music snapped their fingers and a member of staff and said 'oi' at them to take a picture of them. My husband and I almost spat our drinks out! On our last night we were also treated to a guest's music all night and into the morning from across our hallway. We did manage to sleep but if it was not our last night we would have likely gone to reception. We would absolutely come back. We were treated well, we have eaten and drank VERY well and love all this place has to offer. Just PLEASE leave the sound bars at home!!

    Definite disappointment...

Customer service was rude, short, did not provide any information when checking it, just told us to sit there and wait for our keys, then after 30 minutes, no map or explanation about the resort, it's restaurants, amenities or anything they gave us keys and sent us up. My husband's birthday was mentioned and we got the champagne cake, but no banner, when I told the customer service about it, she said "I got you down," twice, without explaining what it was, she wasn't even looking at me in the face, just at the computer and not even acknowledging. The handset on the phone was not working, one of the lights by the door wasn't working. We came back to our room and the pillows were all thrown on the couch. We kept getting solicited for tips, even though we were giving them, and our package included trips. Some of the bartending staff was very rude, dry, did not look at you when ordering. The best part was the dining staff and entertainment/band. There was a roach in the breakfast buffet area on the wall by the fruit juices, a large brown roach, and when I told staff, she just looked at me, didn't do anything. The tour people were calling us in our room, early morning at 8, on our vacation claiming to be from Expedia, but Expedia said there was no such "rep" on site. The excursions were not detailed as far as what to expect, and most of the excursions included sitting around waiting for buses to come get us, wasting time. Some of the guides/drivers would stop at souvenir stores and tell us that it was the best prices to buy it... We bought a bottle of Rum which the store owner said it was discounted form 80 to 40 dollars, but we found the same thing at duty free for 15 dollars. We're supposed to be able to trust the guides and drivers representing amstar, and you could tell that everyone had a commission or something to gain from us shopping. We were given just QR codes about the excursions and told what to take but no actual schedule or details. Some of the time we were just wondering where we are going and when, no one to communicate anything to us, with drivers just picking us up. The restaurants had very limited choices and food was okay, with Bordeaux, Portofino and Kimitsu being among the better ones. We heard many locals tell us that since the management change, many of the drivers have not been seeing their usual customers return to this resort, and I can see why. Some were friendly and helpful, but 70% of staff would either just ask for tips, or just walk past you or not even look at you or provide any information, considering it was our first time in Jamaica. The ATM was broken for 4 days, and we were constantly told it would be fixed, but it wasn't. When asking the lobby for a cash advance, we were told to come back in the morning when they had cash. We were sent to the St. James lobby for a cash advance and told they would do it, when we got there St. James sent us back to Wild Orchid saying they wouldn't, picking up the phone to call the gentleman that sent us to tell him he shouldn't have sent us. Other staff were telling us she should have helped us and no guest should be turned away, but we were. We were never rude, mean, and always polite with everyone, but it was not the same in return... Not the best impression, nor will we be returning to this resort.
