Luxury Price but Low Quality Accommodations, Service & Bland Food
The overall experience of Secrets was below the average but didn’t want to rate as ‘poor’. For the cost of the accommodations and service provided it’s not worth it! My sister and I had been excited to stay at a Secrets Resort due to the brands great marketing and advertising but were consistently disappointed with the lack of service offered, low quality accommodations and bland food. Paid additional fees for luxury experience through paying for the preferred level of accommodations which was supposed to include a concierge and additional special services. Had to solution our prepaid onsite transportation back to the airport after calling numerous times and finally having to physically walk to the onsite transportation office to get a response only to be told that our pickup was missed without any communication attempted to reach us. I worked to solution with the Amstar representative directly but spent almost an hour waiting for him to tend to my urgent need over tending to reserving a excursion for a couple which would be scheduled 2 days after my sister and I had to be at the airport for a same day flight. This is just one of the numerous encounters with the staff and lack of customer care provided.

Secrets-Papgayo-Vacation to Remember
Excellent Resort to visit. Giovanni, Alison, Francis, Eduardo, Francis, & Mauren of the Entertainment Team were amazing! Taught me Latin dances, bracelet making, & painting! Christian & Michelle at The Seaside Grill made us feel so special & showed daily how much they enjoyed serving their guests!!! Stephen & Randy took our orders while we sat by the pool & always made sure we had anything we needed! The lobby staff was so good to us! Ahmed made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived on the resort! There were several driver’s that went above & beyond… Nelson, Marcus, Mike, Eli, Harold just to name a few!!! Miguel also took great care of us whenever we were around the pool! We loved the staff at the resort. & they made our trip unforgettable!!!

Exceptional Experience
We had such a great experience at Secrets Papagayo! The view was beautiful, food was delicious, and staff were exceptional. I highly recommend going to the Seaside Grille and asking for Yessner as your service- he's amazing! Alison with the activities team was so much fun. Make sure you take advantage of the Sunset Hike offered at the resort as well as the other free activities.

Amazing Views, wonderful staff, great food.
Wonderful people! Keep in mind it is not a Sandals resort which was what we used to, so they did not have certain things like a full stocked bar in the rooms, but you do get a bottle of rum! Not sure if the higher level rooms received more. We were at the bungalows

Ups and Downs
Although we had a wonderful rest we do feel we should feedback some valid downfalls to this hotel as we were informed it was a couples, quiet and romantic location. This is incorrect. We feel it is a four star and not a five star hotel. We had to constantly ask for towels and drinking water in our room. There was a lack of tea and various items missing daily in the buffet restaurant. The hotel also hosts weddings every weekend and this brings large groups. The main pool is a rowdy pool and has a 'spring break' atmosphere which is great for some but when you are told that this is a couples hotel and it has a chilled romantic vibe this was a huge shock. There is a quiet pool but you are cut off from the activities and daily classes and there is one restaurant at this pool. We have also taken this up with our tour operator. A huge negative also was our room and the adjoining door to the next room. I was told this was from when the hotel was a family hotel in the past. We heard everything that the guests got up to and obviously vice versa which for us was very uncomfortable and not at all private. The sun bed situation that other reviewers have mentioned unfortunately does exist. Fortunately I am an early bird so had my bed every day but I was there at 6am and by 7am most beds were taken. More beds are needed and parasols. We wouldn't return but we would like to thank the staff for trying with the resources that they have and the pool staff especially make an effort daily to entertain everyone. The drivers around the resort deserve a shout out for their impeccable manners and friendliness.
