I should have lowered my expectations. Don’t be fooled by the big, hotel chain name.
Day 7 out of 10 trip and I feel compelled to write this now and I am still here, I hardly do reviews, but feel I should tell you— I do not recommend and would not come back to Royalton Splash or any Royalton for that matter. I am an avid traveller and I manage my expectations in the Caribbean well, I am also very compassionate for the state of affairs in the Global south since I am born there. I guess expected too much from Royalton Punta Cana Splash, being its from a Marriott chain. I did not upgrade to Diamond because I didn’t think it’s worth it since we don’t drink much at all. Beach: sand itself is nice. But don’t come if you prefer the beach. It’s too far and there’s only burgers, hot dogs and fries. For those that did not upgrade to Diamond Club PRO: Lots of palapa or trees. Smooth sand. CON: rough waters, red flag on most days. Don’t expect calm waters here. Small strip of sand on this resort. Food: If you don’t upgrade to Diamond you will only get Buffet at Splash which is too far to go back and forth from the beach. Buffet is okay. Service has been poor, sometimes good, I don’t know what’s going with their front line staff, but something is off. I don’t blame the front line staff, I am sure they are doing their best, their service I am sure is a projection of what their treatment from upper management. Seems to be a lot of supervision while they just need more staff and more spoons and bowls. I am a generous tipper but many times I didn’t even get the opportunity since no one hardly can around. It’s a busy season I thought Royalton would have capacity to serve it but they don’t. I feel we would’ve been better off at a smaller resort. A la carte is okay, my husband ate some bad cheese at the Italian restaurant and had food poisoning for 1.5 days. Mexican was authentic which was nice. You really have to get on the App at midnight to get a decent time and it’s a day out only to book you can’t book further in advance even though there was space inside the restaurant, strange! Does not look good for resort. I truly don’t expect 5 star at these ala carte restaurants I live in Toronto if I want fine dining I know where to go. What bothered me most was the empty spots when the app says it’s unavailable. SALES: a lot of sales, they “have” to hover around the stair well I guess, again I don’t blame them there must be pressure from the top there. You can’t just have a dinner there’s always, always an upgraded option whereby someone will be asking you to upgrade. Someone is always selling something whether it be the spa, their “free orientation” or a dinner upgrade. lots of vendors. Again I don’t blame them and they aren’t pushy — it’s very unusual much more than I have been used to and I travel a lot, all-inclusives and otherwise. Which is why I won’t stay at a Royalton again. Our room was serviced without them telling us, the ceiling hole was left open and so was the balcony door. The door handle was broken in the bathroom, again it’s fine, I think I expected more from a Marriot chain of hotel. Shuttle service from the beach was unreliable, so don’t depend on it. On one night there must have been a lot of room service ordered, plates were left out in the hallway for a long time and sure enough we got a cockroach in our room! It rained a lot, it rained every day a lot here!!! The hotel did not do anything extra to accommodate for rain, no extra umbrella or increasing entertainment around the canopied areas, other hotels have been really good with this. I would not have come if I knew there would not be any proper food for Splash people at the beach. Since you are not allowed to use the buffet unless you go Diamond and I did not know this. At least they could add fruit to the burger and hot dog and fries station. And keep it exclusive to Splash since you can’t use the buffet. It says stay at 1 play at 2 but only if upgrade if you want proper use of it. Water park: is the best part of this Splash side. We have a 14 year old so it was good for her. Night time entertainment was good at Splash, small outdoor theatre but the shows, band, talent went all out - we are a competitive dancer family so we can appreciate this. The “vibe” team were high vibe and engaging! The main hotel vibe team was around a small side of the pool - they should be in a more open area, for more engagement. Overall don’t have high expectations here, don’t be fooled by the name, expect to be sold to, or just get the upgrades I guess, I might have, had I known but again, I don’t drink, so premium booze has no value to me and upon reading the reviews it was so mixed whether or not Diamond club was worth it. But you would think you would still get good value for a regular all-inclusive at this big name hotel. Don’t come if you prefer to be at the beach it’s simply too far and too inconvenient from the rooms. If you’re a pool person you’ll be fine to stay on the Splash end. If I ever come back to Punta Cana I will spend top dollar to stay at a smaller hotel. It’s my first time here and I don’t know what it will take for me to come back. I like to come and support the local economy, but this place is for the benefit of the big hotel chain and so the local help will suffer for that, that’s the vibe I got. I hope they don’t put a lot of pressure on them and hope they do well here.

Beautiful beach
Very nice hotel.Edwin B was very attentive.the beach was beautiful and the staff was very friendly.. the food was better than I saw in a lot of reviews. There were a lot of different nightly activities. Nothing like Las Vegas but still fun. My family was very happy, definitely a family hotel

Good 4*, good variety of food and had a fab 10 days
Booked diamond club which gave us access to all facilities including Punta Cana, wasn’t met of our transport so headed for the diamond lounge where we checked in all quick and easy and met our butler Victor. Room - pretty standard, mini fridge stocked daily, tv and coffee machine, the bed and pillows - fabulous! Balcony with views over the back of the hotel. As so close to Xmas the block was busy with lots of families! Food - Good, some of the reviews make it sounds like there isn’t much choice we found there was a good selection - sandwiches, pizza, burgers, pasta, omelettes, salad, cooked meats etc everyday. If you have a sweet tooth there is also lots of sweet choices. Coffee shop is lovely and the girls always so happy with sandwiches, ice cream and cakes available. Highlight was Dorado which is for Hideaway guests but our butler booked us in x 3 it was really nice except last visit the food was not hot and was replaced quickly so all good. Room service is available. Beach - is nice, waves can be rolling but fun to jump and swim in, parasols are fixed so some bed shuffling, beds were comfy and always available, towels plentiful unless it rains as everyone just leaves them out and then wants dry ones ! Drink and food service in the beach a tip does help! A lot of sand was missing around the beds and view blocked by the baya beds which are booked separately. But lovely long stretch of sand by the sea to walk along. The non diamond section the beds were crammed in (in my opinion). Pools- spent mostly in PC nice pools and pool closest to the beach always has entertainment and music. Again good drink service if you don’t want to leave your sunbed x Entertainment - goes on throughout the day if you want it, evening entertainment was ok Gym - good, lots of classes if you like to join in but not pushy if it’s not your thing Tipping does help we probably spend around 45 dollars for drinks and food for 10 days and then some for the butler Bars - if you don’t like a strong drink just watch the pouring lol, good choices of cocktails etc.

Royalton splash
We are 5 days into a 3 week holiday, check in was abysmal- waited a long time to be served and had to stay in a different room (awful presentation, shoddy repairs and broken tiles) for 24 hours that didn’t meet the needs of our disabled child/wheelchair user. Service is of poor standard in general. Restaurants; Selections buffet, well where do i start…… spoons and bowls are rare as rocking horse s**t so don’t bother with cereal unless you can manage with a plate and knife and fork 😂 salt and pepper non existent and foods are dry, plates and cutlery are not replenished. not receiving service of basic standard to reflect £12k that we have paid. You’re given a table on arrival, and then have to wait for a waiter to take you order of drinks that you are entitled to being all inclusive, however we’ve usually finished our meals before having a glass of water. Bar tenders won’t serve us at the bar in selections and tell us to sit and wait for our servers to wait on us. There are not even any glasses or cups for you to serve yourself. Food is mediocre and a surprise because the labels don’t reflect the trays. The whole ordeal of breakfast and evening meal at selections is just sheer hell and unfortunately there’s no alternative as you can’t book another restaurant or they’re not open and you’re trapped within the compound. Mexican restaurant is good, waitress was refilling our drinks before they hit the table, and the food was lovely. We managed to book a reservation at the Mexican and Italian on the day of our arrival, the Italian is tonight so fingers crossed 🤞. Since making a reservation on our arrival, every restaurant is apparently fully booked all the time, yet when we are at the Mexican there was at least 10 empty tables.🤔 App; Booking the restaurants via the app is rubbish and not allowing us to book any up coming days beyond one day. Asian restaurant closed. Be prepared to bring lots of money for tips. Another family on vacation currently informed us that they pay for a reservation beforehand to guarantee a space at the restaurants 🥲 The sister hotel gets to use splash facilities but we don’t get the same perk other than use of beach and their pools. We asked at reception whether we could use the buffet at the royalton, and we’re told no, so we’re lumbered with Selections restaurant at the splash. It’s around 10 minute walk between hotels to use their beach or pool then the same walk to get back for buffet food, not ideal in the rain with either small children or wheelchair users that cannot gain access to the shuttle bus. Spa; The spa facilities are nice but costly when not receiving the full time that was paid for. £157 for 80 mins that I only received an hour and short time use facilities was disappointing. Gym; The gym is clean, air con and we’ll equipped. Water park; Water park is brilliant, enjoyment for all and no queues. Swimming pools; Pools are large and clean but many floor tiles within the pools require attention- others have had injuries, would recommend bringing beach shoes for children in particular because we have seen lots of injuries in a short time for glasses being used around the pool- waiter smashed glass topped trolley holding optics nearby pool. All sun beds are often claimed with towels but most remain unused for the day. No tables or chairs around the pools not that is a biggie but burgers are served here using ceramic plates- recipe for disaster. Entertainment; Entertainment is good but we have only been to splash square for children entertainment- enjoyable and the entertainment team work hard. Service shuttle not accessible to wheelchair users but the hotel grounds are suitable albeit some ramps are steep at the shared royalton hotel, bare in mind it’s a 10min walk between hotels, although some ramp are too steep to use without a caregiver - approx one in three or one in four gradient, I don’t feel confident holding the wheelchair coming down as the chair almost runs away with you but is manageable, be mindful. Bites snack bar and cafe lovely presented and clean. Ice cream is a hit with the children. Come the evenings there is a strong smell of sewage around the complex. Cups are merely rinsed after use and passed to the next guessed 😲 Grounds and settings around the both hotels are beautiful especially during the evening when lit up. Beach is on hotel front and typical Caribbean which is beautiful, limited beds and be expected to be hounded by sellers for various tat and photos but is ti be seen in allot of beach resorts elsewhere. Overall the setting it is clean and tidy, rooms are cleaned everyday and refrigerators restocked daily but disappointing when considering the price and our expectations, advertisement photos do not truly reflect what you get.

Overall good but needs improvement
Leaving today after a 10 night stay, the biggest let downs were the teens club which only had tables, chairs and music. There was no games console, no billiards or anything which is false advertisement and probably wouldn’t have booked here if I knew this before. The VR was closed our entire stay and the arcade had 3 things in it, again very disappointing! Shout out Femirelys Diaz! She’s an asset to the Royalton and always looked forward to seeing her at dinner, I really hope she gets the opportunity to develop her career with Royalton. Buffet was good food, pools are lovely but there’s nothing to do in the day apart from swimming. Evening entertainment was very good and staff really are nice. Based on lack of activities during the day for teens & adults I probably won’t book here again, however, if this was all rectified I would happily come back every year.
