Great room but not so great parking.
The room was very nice and there were plenty of pillows for the bed. Our view of the sunset over the ocean was fantastic. Only complaints were the elevator doors closed tooooo fast and the parking, which I paid $25 per day for, was in a lot that also had public parking. And more than a few of the people parking there hogged two spaces. Which meant I had to park further away from the hotel.

5 stars and 2 thumbs way up
We weren't supposed to stay at this hotel. However, the one we did book was AWFUL! So at the last minute (8 am) I called to see if they had a room. Not only did they have a room for that night but because I hadn't showered or slept the night before Ebby told me they would have a room ready for me if I wanted to come right away. We showed up at about 9 a.m. I was greeted so warmly by the hotel staff. Ebby came out and I gave her the biggest hug. Our room was gorgeous, overlooking the ocean. I can't say enough about this place!

Don't stay here
This resort should not be called a resort and is very outdated. Don't believe the photos like we did. The carpet is stained and the room is very musty smelling. Had to wedge the bedside drawer to keep it closed. The restaurant is equally as bad. Ordered drinks and food and after getting nothing and our server waiting on people who arrived after we did, we left and went down the road. For the money this cost STAY AWAY

Bad service, tried to avoid helping
Royal kona resort review I can live with the old building. I can ignore the outdated facilities. I can even tolerate the shabby room. But what I will not accept — is getting hurt and being met with complete indifference. I came back scratched and bleeding, just asking for a bit of first aid. A band-aid. Some antiseptic. Basic human decency. And what did I get? “Sorry, it didn’t happen on our property. We can’t help with this, you have to take your own responsibility and buy yourself medicines.” Are you kidding me?! Is this what passes for customer service now? You’re a hotel — in the hospitality industry — and you can’t even offer a damn band-aid to someone in need? Because you’re afraid of… what exactly? Liability? If you’re that scared of being sued for offering basic help, just shut down your business. Royal Kona ????? What royal does like this ???? Let me get this straight: I’m standing there bleeding, asking for help, and you just shrug and send me away? No compassion. No alternatives. No basic first aid. Nothing. You didn’t just fail as a business — you failed as humans. You could’ve said, “Here’s something, but you’ll have to treat it yourself.” But instead, you basically said, “Good luck, not our problem.” What a pathetic excuse for hospitality. Next time, maybe hang a sign at the front desk: “Injured? We don’t care — unless you bleed on our carpet.” Unbelievable. Disgusting. And yes, I’ll be telling everyone I know.

Older but garden resort hotel in the heart of Kona, ocean front with crashing waves
An older resort, hotel, with low-key vibe and stately elegance, in its heyday, nice pool great lounge chairs with a view of the crashing surf. All rooms have a lanai with the table and chairs and very private. A very good workout room with pneumatic pump machines. Note: some construction underway in one wing of the hotel only. The beach and saltwater pool is closed due to damage from high surf. But the pool swimming pool is great. Front desk are very friendly as well as the restaurant and bar which also has a happy hour and a great view of the ocean. For longer term tourist there is a luau that was well attended. The sound of the crashing waves and birds in the garden port cochere adds ambience. We would stay here again.
