“Not Quite Five-Star: An Honest Resort Review”
I’ve visited many resorts throughout the Caribbean, so here’s my honest review of this one. The resort itself is very large, but unfortunately, the focus seems to be on quantity rather than quality, with several details falling short of a true five-star experience. Our room was beautiful with a great view, and the beds were comfortable, though we had to request a blanket since only two sheets were provided. Housekeeping was excellent. The entertainment was just okay. The only evening option was the main outdoor podium show, so if you weren’t in the mood for a full performance, there was no alternative nighttime entertainment. The beach was lovely, and we never had trouble finding chairs, whether by the pool or on the sand. However, the pools were disappointing—too small to accommodate the number of guests comfortably. We stayed on the 10th floor and didn’t experience any elevator delays, but the elevators themselves were noticeably dirty. The food was very hit or miss. Our first visit to the steakhouse was fantastic, but the second visit fell flat. Similarly, the Italian buffet was inconsistent. The other restaurants, Krystal and Kyoto, were disappointing. We felt rushed through dinner, with food arriving too quickly and often cold. That said, we had no trouble securing dinner reservations, even on our first night. The main buffet was standard for an all-inclusive, but breakfast after 9 AM was a letdown—many items weren’t replenished, and my husband was even told there were no more omelets for the day. Overall, the food quality was underwhelming, and sadly, to top it off, we both ended up with intestinal infections on our last day. While the resort had some positives, the experience didn’t meet the expectations of a five-star destination.

I felt like a tourist in my own country!
My staycation was a superb experience! The customer service was authentic and the conversations with the workers were great! Stacey from the Watersports unit was tremendous and an excellent host. The Catamaran team, Capt. Foote and Company was A class! The food, was delicious 😋. This was my best staycation ever!

Lots of eatery. Buffet was great. workers were awesome, and friendly. The Micheal Jackson show was awesome. Some of the shows were not so family friendly. Other than that great Hotel , great food, great ambiance.

Visited Riu Aquarelle in January
My stay at the Riu Aquarelle was great overall. Some highlights: the ocean view from our room was stunning, and we loved the spacious suite with the huge balcony and a bathtub. The separation of the toilet and shower was a nice touch, and the shower itself had an amazing view of the ocean. The elevators were quick, and the service was excellent—everyone was helpful and attentive. There was always someone around to assist, though service was a bit slower at the beach or pool bar, but still very good. Tipping was appreciated, whether small or large. The daiquiri bar is beautiful and serves the best drinks, and their espresso martini was one of the best I've ever had. The live performances were fantastic, especially the Michael Jackson show and the entertainers at the Marley pool bar. The Marley bar could use a bit more space, though, as it tends to get crowded. Pepe and the buffet offered some of the best jerk chicken and pork we've ever had. The entertainment crew was always on point, and housekeeping did an excellent job, cleaning our room daily and providing extra towels. Now, the cons: check-in around 3 p.m. was a long wait, so try to arrive earlier to make the most of your day. There are a lot of mosquitoes outdoors, so be sure to bring repellant. The room was great, but we wish the bathroom had a vent. The bed only had sheets, no comforters. The towel hooks in the bathroom fell off on day one due to poor adhesive. Breakfast ends at 10:30 a.m., which felt a bit early, and more restaurants should be open between 3-6 p.m. The restaurants were decent, though the Japanese restaurant could offer more sushi options. Despite these minor issues, we didn’t let them spoil our vacation. We had a fantastic time and wished we could have stayed a few more days.
