  Awesome resort!

  I must say that I was extremely pleased with my stay at the Riu Montego Bay resort. EVERYTHING was great. Awesome options for food. Great staff. The drinks were to die for! Great way for me to celebrate my 50th birthday.

  Everything and everyone was absolutely amazing. Food was amazing entertainment was even better. The choice of pools was great.

  Absolutely not a five-star experience.

  I recently stayed at RIU Montego Bay and while there were a few standout moments, I honestly don’t understand how this resort is rated as five stars. Here’s my honest breakdown: PROS Huge shout-out to the bartenders who truly made the trip memorable—Nakeisha, Brissett, and Brenton who were all friendly, attentive, and full of good energy. They brought the vibe that the rest of the resort lacked. Shout out to the server Johnion at the steakhouse who's personality stood out in a sea of otherwise lackluster service. The entertainment crew worked hard to keep guests engaged and entertained throughout the day. Special thanks to Glenroy, the lifeguard, who was kind, professional, and helpful every single day. CONS Absolutely not a five-star experience. Room keys were outdated and you had to carry them everywhere. The wristbands were useless—unlike other resorts like Iberostar, they didn’t grant access to your room or any services. The pool towel policy was a joke!! You only get one towel per day via a towel card, whether for the pool or to workout on the ground. By day three, we were told we couldn’t exchange them anymore—extremely inconvenient. Housekeeping was subpar. Sand stayed on the room floor despite cleanings, and washcloths were consistently dispersed very sparingly even after multiple specific requests. Staff attitude was generally poor. Many employees seemed annoyed to be there. One lifeguard told us staff were told not to interact with guests. That’s all you need to know about the hospitality. NO top-shelf liquor. Not even Appleton Rum, and we’re in Jamaica! Everything was off-brand and cheap. Food was disappointing. Mostly buffet-style, with minimal variety. Restaurant reservations couldn’t be made until check-in and were limited to two days out, by which time everything was already booked. One day we literally walked to KFC across the street just to get a decent meal. The sports bar was a wasted space—tiny TVs, barely any sound, and definitely not a spot to catch big games. Gym was small and under-equipped, especially in 2025 when many travelers are health-conscious. No room to work out comfortably. The waterpark was a joke—only three tubes and four slides. You couldn’t bring drinks in, and there was no snack bar anywhere to grab something simple like chips once the buffet closed. No golf carts on the property, so getting around—especially if you wanted to explore other areas—meant walking in the heat. The property looked dated, with chipped paint, worn-down finishes, and even the balcony rack was coming out of the wall outside of our room. You had to leave a card in the power slot to keep electricity running in the room. There were limited food options for people with allergies or intolerances. Nearly everything had dairy or gluten, and not every server knew what items contained what if they were not labeled. Again, having a snack shop would’ve helped ease that frustration. BOTTOM LINE: While a few staff members went above and beyond and the entertainment team gave great energy, RIU Montego Bay fell short in nearly every other area. From food and drinks to service and upkeep, it didn’t come close to a five-star resort experience. I wouldn’t recommend it for travelers expecting luxury, variety, or real hospitality. Go stay at a beach side Holiday Inn!

  Great People and staff!!

  My trip to Rio Montego Bay was absolutely amazing and it wasn’t so much the Hotel but the people that worked there that made it 5 stars!! They were welcoming, kind, had exceptional customer service relations, approachable, engaging and very attentive. They displayed excellent service and also were just all around good, cool people that created a vibe and remembered our names and our stories and were very genuine! I will definitely shout out Allison, Jayson, Kevon, TiTi they made the whole trip worthwhile and offered excellent service about and beyond what was expected! everyone on the wait staff was incredible, the bartenders mixed great drinks. The people made it and awesome place to stay!
