Great family vacation
Perfect family resort. We vacationed with my daughter and her family (5 & 8 year olds). Everyone had a wonderful time. The rooms were very clean and anything we ever needed was brought to us within five minutes. We used the app and it was very efficient. Housekeeping was always on it. be sure to check your room refrigerator to make sure it is styled to a very cold setting. The service whether you were at the beach or the swimming pool was wonderful. The little kids really enjoyed the kid area that had all the little slides and Water features. It was perfect because the kids can only get in and out one way. Whoever was watching could relax knowing they were absolutely safe in approximately a foot and a half to 2 feet of water. The attendents for the pool were very child friendly to make sure everyone stayed safe. The food was good, as a vegetarian I wouldn’t say great, but there was always options. The rest of the family that are omnivores enjoyed all of it. Daughter and son-in-law loved the Asian restaurant, and my husband loved all of the fresh fish every day in the buffet. The little kids loved the nightly chocolate fountain in the buffet. The servers were always so friendly and professional. We especially liked Ady in the dining room. As an added bonus, there is a cappuccino machine in the buffet areas. You can either make your own or they will serve you. There is also a latte coffee bar in the lobby area, at the sports bar and also in the main lobby bar. There was very minimal seaweed in the ocean. Nothing compared to the lower Cancun areas. The water was beautiful, there was ample seating on the beach, always, and due to the large number of palm trees they have strategically planted there was always some shade available. We were there at the end of March beginning of April and it was extremely windy, was warm and beautiful, but the waves were pretty rough. The 8 year old thoroughly enjoyed jumping through and playing in the waves. The five-year-old had a ton of fun playing in the surf where it hit the beach. Seating by the swimming pool was always a challenge, in the family pool area. There was never a seat problem in the younger kid slide swimming pool area. There was always ample seating. Regardless of signs that say don’t save seats they don’t enforce it so get up early and mark a seat or you won’t have one. Around 4 PM it would seem like some people would leave and you could find a seat. We never ran into any rude guests or anyone seeming intoxicated and all of the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Helpful tip, bring an insulated cup so you can keep your beverage, nice and cold. Staff will even take your cup and fill it for you when you request a drink. The transfers to and from the airport were seamless. We use the Amstar service for our transportation, and it was all very smooth and easy.

Rooms are tired, amazing beach!
While the grounds and beach were meticulously maintained, the rooms were incredibly tired! We also tried to get connecting rooms, and we were told that we could come down on day two and switch to a connecting one, but after packing up and hanging out the lobby, we were told once again that they were not available. Super frustrating! We had to stay in two rooms which were not even next to each other with kids and that makes things difficult. The rooms were very, very tired. Also, most of the food is some type of modified buffet or full buffet, and was not as good as many other resorts we've stayed at in Mexico.

Friendly staff. Be prepared to use the stairs. Adult only swim up bars
The staff at this resort were great friendly and attentive. Otherwise, things were meh. The posted schedule of events was not followed, so we'd show up for things we wanted to do and it just didn't happen. Food was fine but nothing special. On checking we were told we could utilize the bars and pools and the Riu next door, but the one time we walked over we were told we had the wrong wristbands on and were denied a drink; then we would "compete" at our resort bars with guests of the neighboring resort and they had no problem being served. Evening shows were boring at best. It seemed like everything with Riu revolved around the Riu parties, which were adult only and on another property 30 minutes away (except the neon party that was the first night we were there). We went with our children (9 and 7) and they have loved getting their virgin frozen drinks from swim up bars at other resorts we've gone to, but here those pools are adult only. Kind of a bummer for them and us as we could not enjoy the swim up bars as much as we have in the past. Probably the worst part is we were given a room on the fourth floor, far from the lobby where the only elevators on the property were located. So our options were walk about 200 yards to the elevator and then about 300 yards to the restaurant/pool, or use 60 stairs to get to and from the room. We made the most of our stay and still had a good time, but I would recommend looking into other places.

We enjoyed it
I have no complaints. We enjoyed our time here. Room was big enough for our family of 4. Modern, clean and new. Beach and ocean we great. Food was pretty good, always able to find something. The waterpark is nice but our kids are getting too old for it at 10 and 12. It'll keep older children entertained for an hour a day. We took a chance on this as there was no Elite club choice and I'm not disappointed. You get a lot for what you pay, IMO. It's a little far north but we had a car so wondered when we needed to. I'd stay here again. Don't expect 6* for the price and you'll be happy.
