Buyer Beware: Loud, noisy, overcrowded and overrun with screaming kids and people for two days. Not relaxing at all.
Never again!! I wanted a nice relaxing week but instead, it was a circus on the weekends when busloads of residents arrived increasing hotel guest numbers by the hundreds. The yelling and screaming and music at the main pool was too loud to allow conversation, there was eating, smoking, and drinking in the pool filled with foam. There was no room (or desire) for a fast, refreshing dip. Even the quiet pool was noisy with people using portable boom boxes to play music. Hotel staff turn a blind eye to all this. The lunch lineups were also an hour long on weekends. Compared to other resorts I have been to, the food was uninspiring and repetitive with little to choose from. The A la Carte restaurants were awful: the so-called steak restaurant offered a thin, leatherlike steak or ribs with gristle and fat and the Pasta night served cold pasta. The resort red and white wines come in plastic jugs and we saw a server mixing white in with red. We finally decided to buy wines from the store because the hotel wines were unpalatable and rough. On the plus side, the resort is well-cared for and well-manicured. The rooms are comfortable and cleaning was well done. If this hotel wants to bring in hordes of people to add to their coffers, then this should be mentioned in their website so people can decide if they want to put up with a circus from Friday noon until Sunday afternoon. A circus is not what I paid for.

Nice resort but not for seniors or if you want a quiet place to relax.
We landed on a Friday afternoon, around 1:30 PM. We were a group of 10, 4 seniors, 6 middle aged and 2 teens. At check in I told the lady working the desk that we needed one room close to lobby, buffet and pool area. Check-in went fast and we were taken to our rooms by a porter pushing our luggage on a cart. The rooms we were given were all far from everything. So back to the desk we went to try to get at least the two rooms with seniors with mobility problems changed. The rest of us were fine. they informed us that on the weekends the locals are allowed on this resort and there were no rooms available until Sunday when the locals left. So we would have to stay in the rooms we had until Sunday. We made the best of it. Let me tell you this place is not equipped for seniors or mobiity issues. It is a very loud resort, music blasting by pool at all times. there is no bar in the lobby so if it rains you can't get to the bar without getting wet. the pool doesn't have steps only ladders so senior have a hard time getting out of the pool, the beach the whole week had a red flag up, very strong waves that most seniors wouldn't be able to stand in. I don't recommend this resort for seniors or ppl with mobility issues. Also, if you want to relax and read by the pool you can't it is so loud. Food- In general the food is good. Food is fresh and hot. Lots of options, there is a pizza counter and pasta counter. Usually, everyday there was salads and nachos to choose from. soups and breads. once we had pull pork and one night we had sweet and sour pork. Pork chops were very good. we ate at both a la cartes and they were very good. In general the ppl vere friendly. I am a wine drinker and almost every night they ran out. On the weekends it is a Zoo with the locals but it is only 2 days. ROOMS Rooms were nice and kept clean everyday. fridge filled with water and soft drinks sprite and pepsi. ac could be better, lots of hot water. don't keep any snacks out as there are lots of ants. ISSUES - The power went out alot on this resort the week we were there. We had heavy rains most days. and they said that was causing the power outages, one day we had no power from 7 am-3 pm. No water to flush the toliet or AC in 32 degree weather but we just made the best of it. Overall nice resort but would not be returning becasue of mobility issues and it being so loud. I want quiet and to relax on my vacations. In saying that we met some very nice ppl who work there.

Summary…we’ll be back
Set your high expectations to a lower one, we have been here 4 times total and this is still the best bang for your buck It is by far the best beach and ocean swimming of the 12 or so we have stayed at in puerto plata region Most all of the resorts in playa Dora and that area have postage stamp size beaches with wall to wall pesky vendors, not so much at the playa bachata Yes the rooms are dated, yes we encountered difficulties with our ac in the room, the food is not a Michelin rated service, but we enjoyed it all the same. But that said, the workers all appeared happy and gracious (tips and candy help too) . The grounds were cleaned daily as was our room we had fresh bottles of drinking water daily As with almost all of the resorts here in the area the beer says” El President” but the beer barrels bear no such markings Pretty much low scale on the booze too, but we didn’t come here to get drunk (although you can) we are drawn to the cleaner beach and ocean water that exists here The ocean water in the playa Dora area is not something you would want to swim in The government here really needs to step up the trash collection of the city and its streams that dump into the bay So back to the resort, we’ve returned here because of the location away from the city and also its workers who work hard to make it a good value Don’t expect Punta Cana like resorts here, but back to what said in the beginning of this review, best bang for the buck

Think twice before booking. Please read my review
The staff was fantastic. The resort was amazing. The restaurant had a variety of food and plenty to choose from. If it wasn't for the weekends and all the local Dominicans inundating the resort, I would give it a five star. Literally, on the weekend, when all the local Dominicans are on the resort there is nowhere to sit nowhere to swim and the lineups for the food is tremendous. I think one way of resolving this, is that the international tourists should be permitted access to the restaurant 30 minutes before the local Dominicans and maybe have designated areas that the international tourists can actually enjoy and be able to sit or swim peacefully. I would definitely go back but only if they resolve the issue with the inundation of all the local Dominican guests.
