Experience of Planet Hollywood Costa Rica

Overall, it was an amazing experience. One of the biggest highlights was the exceptional treatment from every employee—they truly went above and beyond, treating us with warmth and care. On the downside, we didn’t get the chance to try the steakhouse 🥲. The buffet here is incredible, and the drinks are on another level, but the food at some of the restaurants wasn’t the best. We expected a lot more from the teppanyaki rest.

    Unique Vacation in Costa Rica

My stay at this resort was great! The staff is very friendly and always ready to help with anything very clean, and comfortable. Additionally, the hotel's location is perfect, as were able to see many animals in the surrounding area, which was a unique experience. The pool was one of my favorite places-I spent most of my time there because it's absolutely beautiful and relaxing. We_ booked some excursion ..."Gabriel helped us organize our tours and airport transfers. It was very easy to work with him, we did La leona waterfall hike, Buena vista adventure and a private boat tour for a day, it was simply amazing. I chose this hotel after reading several positive reviews, and it definitely exceeded all my expectations! I highly recommend Nomad and this beautiful place

    Customer Service

Javier Allen, our server, at the Mexican restaurant gave great service and he also served the burgers and made the way we liked it the Guy Fieri burger joint. More moist compared to the day before and toasted the burger bun, Overall, the good service from the staff somehow made up for the other factors that could have been improved at the resort. The pool seats and towels need update and replaced. Beach area should be improved and had a lot of outside tour and massage vendors.

No Marriott recognition, STAR class NOT worth it, constant upsell

Pro-tips: Is star class worth it? From my experience, NO it is NOT. Marriott affiliated, but do NOT expect any recognition nor benefits. Read more below. Go somewhere else and get much better value. After staying at another resort further from the airport, we decided to come here for our last few days in Costa Rica because it was supposedly a Marriott property. It is NOT. The only borrow the name, but provide you little to no recognition of benefits at Planet Hollywood. I booked a non-STAR class room and another night as a redemption. When we arrived, as it was our anniversary, we asked about an upgrade. They said as it was not a Marriott property, we had to pay for an upgrade. As a Titanium Marriott member, this is odd. I even offered to use my suite nights, they said they dont’t do that. The only way to upgrade was to pay. It was $150 per person per day. I declined. After about another 20 minutes of the “real” benefits of STAR class up selling by the front desk staff, we opted for a discounted upgrade for both nights of $70 total per room, per night. I can live with that. I asked if they would allow us to keep the same upgraded room for my redemption stay. They said, you guessed it, no. As we had been checking in for over an hour at this point, I said I wanted to go to the room and start enjoying the resort, while they figured out their internal Planet Hollywood issues. We were introduced to our butler, renamed personal assistant, for help. He showed us the “green room” stating it was available to us to use and relax any anytime, think an executive lounge in Marriott parlance. It was a closet. It had a very small self-service bar and a desk with a chair to monitor activity in this space. No place to sit, no food, no snacks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and that was it. We get to our ‘upgraded’ room (10404) and it has a connecting room door where the next room (10405) is having a party and guess what, the billiard table is right next to our bed. Really? We could hear all the kids screaming and yelling through the closed door with the AC on full blast. Attached is a video of the noise. I picked up the phone and asked to be moved with a new room. Back to the front desk we go, another 30 minutes more for them to find us a room for two days. The next day went to the STAR class only pool, it was largely unsupervised and that meant anyone could jump in to this pool and also enjoy the upgraded liquor without being STARclass. We opted to go down to the larger pool, and it was a vibe, a pool party for sure filled with kids. We stopped by the STAR class only Blue cafe for lunch and it was underwhelming too. Bland food, small menu. You could order something else for an extra charge. Another upsell. That night we made a reservation for the teppanyaki meal. It was great, fun, food ample in quantity and good quality. Asked for some Sake and it was to be $5 in cash for each bottle. Not a big deal but annoying that more and more is an upsell at an all inclusive resort. Breakfast at the SoCal buffet was good. Ample quantity and of pretty good quality. Service was good. Bottom line: I would go to another resort like the Westin or a small boutique place like Hotel Azura. For what we paid, we did not get anything extra that all the other non-STAR class patrons had as well. No value for the extra we paid.

    Far exceeded expectations!

We were a little hesitant about booking the Planet Hollywood hotel because we were worried it might be too "gimmicky" and we wouldn't get a good feel for the country's culture. We were traveling to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary with our two teenage girls, so we were wanting a hotel with things all of us would like. It was AWESOME- far exceeded our expectations. The resort was smaller than a few of the other all-inclusive hotels we have stayed at before, but it had everything we could ever want, and it felt more intimate and boutique-y. They had a lot of restaurant options, and the food was DELICIOUS. Hands down, they had the best food we have ever had at any other hotel. They have a coffee shop open all day with barista style coffee tea and lattes, fresh pastries and ice cream. The buffet was expansive with a lot of options, fresh, local dishes, "American" favorites, and multiple stations where they cook made to order dishes that were different every day. The dinner restaurants were incredible, and the service was impeccable. The staff really went above and beyond to get to know us and our preferences, and they would try to anticipate our needs before we could even ask for something. We had lunch by the pool at the burger bar often- the burgers are fresh and delicious. There was always had entertainment happening during the day by the pool and the was a different show in the main building every night, plus karaoke at the OT Bar. (Which also had great food- the onion rings- to die for) We were never bored! We loved watching the monkeys by the beach and all the wildlife that lives close by. The beach is gorgeous black sand, and it's in a little cove so there are not many waves, which makes it perfect for swimming. It had activities my teenage daughters loved, and we felt very safe letting them venture off on their own in the resort. It was perfect for our family. The best part of the whole hotel was the staff. Our butler, Wilson was fantastic. He was such an awesome person, great to talk to and really cared about our experience and our anniversary. He made us feel very special- like he was a friend, and it wasn't just his job. The staff at the Restaurant East (the Hibachi and Sushi restaurant) was incredible. We had Rebecca as a server multiple times and Sharling as a hostess- they remembered us, remembered what we liked and were so friendly and welcoming. Allan was the bartender on the 3rd floor and his drinks were THE BEST. They would be 20$ cocktails at home, you can tell he takes so much pride in his job. Tamara worked at the buffet- she would see us walk in and would bring my girls hot chocolates in the morning and make fresh, pour over coffee for us at breakfast with a huge smile without us even having to ask. Farid at the pool kept anticipating when we would need a new drink or soda and bring it without us even asking as well. As soon as we were done with a meal or a drink, it would be cleaned up immediately- it was so clean and well kept. Everyone there provided such amazing service- we felt like celebrities. Maybe that is the point of the Planet Hollywood! We would definitely recommend it to anyone, and we hope to come back! We would definitely stay here again!
