Wonderful time
Pro’s: 1) Great pools, water park is a blast although after day 3 kids were bored of it 2) evening kid activities were very thought out and the kids had a great time 3) rooms were relatively clean 4) can always find something to do! First time we were never bored as a family and the kids were so happy. Con’s 1) front desk manager was not the friendliest. ***we booked a jr. Suite and description was x2 double beds. Walked into our room and found 1 king bed and a pullout couch that had zero cushion. When speaking to manager did not apologize and just stated your not guaranteed your room description and advised I should have paid for an upgrade. I asked to move room and he advised there was no where to move when speaking to x2 local families they stated they moved rooms when they were unhappy*** 2) only 1 buffet ***best to go early as soon as it opens otherwise very slim picking, staff were very slow replacing low food plates. Staff were slow getting to you for water/coffee*** 3) found staff just not the friendliest here. It was the first time being to a resort where we found we didn’t connect to any staff leading to not leave large tips. That being said the pool next to the water park the pool bartender would always go above and beyond. 4) the games around the pool I found were too old for my 6 year old to participate in the older kids would push her out of the way or she just wouldn’t know the answer to the trivia questions. Would be nice to play 2 rounds - 1 for the younger kids and then another for the older 5) this is not on the hotel but if you have a little girl be very cautious on getting there hair done. The braiding ladies were very aggressive (watched them threaten someone when they didn’t agree on the payment). Also my child’s hair started falling apart the next day after being told it should last for two weeks. Took her back to get it fixed where they told me I had to pay 15 USD - never had that issue at other resorts 6) if your a beach bum with kids not the best beach. The sad is very rocky and lots of seaweed. 7) be prepared that all extra costs you will need USD. they did not accept Canadian currency so we constantly had to exchange or money even though we offered to pay the currency exchange. At the end of the day we would not come back to this resort not because of all the cons but just mostly we can go to the pool at home and we are a beach bum family

Overall great stay, but some small tweaks could make it better
The resort itself is perfectly sized in my opinion. I’ve been to many resorts all over the Caribbean, and this is a good size. It’s not small like its adults-only resort, Ocean Maya, and is not huge like some other resorts. It’s very easily walkable. And for those who don’t want to walk, there are regular shuttles throughout. All the staff are super nice and friendly. We never had an issue dealing with any of them. The only staff who wasn’t as perky were the pool bar staff. But my guess is they had to deal with all the spring breakers so I’d be pretty annoyed too. The entertainment staff who were at the Eden pool were all great, specifically Emiliano and Ken. They were super friendly and easy to talk to. What I really liked is they had multiple pools for each purpose, kids pool, adults only (el beso), Privilege, Eden (general) and beach. And not only that, they had activities at each all throughout the day. To be honest, I’m not sure what the other reviewers are talking about with the loud music. I found it was pretty good with volume kept within the immediate vicinity of the pool. You could only hear it as you approach it. My only complaint is that they play a lot of English songs. Stuff I hear here in Canada. I prefer listening to Latin/spanish music at resorts. The other thing that isn’t so great is that there is barely any beach. And they have a beach volleyball court but there’s barely any sand there that it becomes a bit dangerous to play. They need more sand there. I’ve injured myself and other people have too. We had a few issues with our stay, such as a leaking ceiling and a dead bird on our balcony, but they got resolved and we really appreciated that the staff were quick at resolving it. The rooms were spacious and well-kept. Didn’t have any insects or critters which were nice. Also the theatre is actually and theatre which is kinda cool considering some of their nightly shows are awesome. One thing I would recommend is that they promote their entertainment activities more and post it somewhere more publicly because not everyone checks the app.

Ask for Mauricio
We came to ocean riviera resort for a girls trip and this was one of the most fun activities we did with Mauricio - bottle painting. The vibe was perfect with upbeat music and balmy weather to just chill and indulge in some painting. We had a fun time

Ask for Mauricio
Mauricio was our attendant for this activity - attended a bottle painting class - it was great fun but wish there was something to follow for us NON artistic people! I would suggest that maybe the juice bottles be rinsed out and there be something to mauve the sticky from after taking off the labels!!! But great thing to do’
