Mar 29, 2025Al Inclusive here is ++++++, if you want a good time
I just arrived back from the Colonial Riviera Maya by Barcelo, My review is mixed with good and bad, The buffets are fantastic, the service on the other hand is not what you get from a 5 star hotel chain, I have never felt like tipping is so mandatory, everybody including the front desk have there hands out for a tip. The rooms are clean, the grounds are amazingly clean, the beach is all rock, service is basically non existent at this hotel at the colonial. I have stayed at all levels of hotels all over Mexico, I will never go back to the Barcelo. The resort is extremly boring and anything fun is just pull out your wallet. This chain only seems to care how much money they can bleed out of you. I am not going to bash this hotel chain, but I will tell you, I will never stay at a Barcelo ever again. The service and staff are not typical of a 5 star resort

Barcelo is the best!
I am a travel agent who has stayed at over 30 all-inclusive resorts. This was my third time to the Barcelo Maya Riviera and it won’t be my last. It’s beautiful, it’s clean, the people are nice, the food and drinks are good and the beach is the best in Playa. With reasonable rates, the value and experience can’t be beat. Spend a little extra and get an ocean front room. Love this place!!!

My husband and I just got back from celebrating our 33rd anniversary at Barcelo Maya Riviera AO resort. This was our 4th time coming here because we have been to several other places in the area and the food and the views are definitely the best we 've experienced at this resort. The bell hop Pasture Peralta actually remembered us from our luggage ( this is our 4th visit to this resort} its been almost a yr since our last visit. We felt special that he actually remembered us. I will start with the Buffet Luis Diaz the manager in charge of the buffet couldn't be any nicer and genuinely cares if you're enjoying the food. Jorge Cordoba one of the chefs at the buffet is an asset to have at the buffet. The ala cart restaurants are all good our favorites are the French La Comadie, and the taco bar at the mexican ala cart. Definitely go to the Palace resort and eat at the Brazilian steak house Rodesheio excellent rib eye is served there and the Pecana steak is also a must. Great staff and service at all the ala carts. I want to also mention the music pool bar the activities director Maria is amazing she keeps the fun happening. Michelle , Irving, Grace and Yessenia were all so nice and eager to make your day with drinks to your expectations also in the lounge Maribel Perez was awesome. There is really no staff there that doesn't try their hardest to please and make your trip memorable. All in All Thank you Barcelo for always being above our expectations with your staffing and food and drink service. We will be back next year because of it.

I expected more
Security and communication: I forgot my cap and expensive sunglasses on the bench in front of room 2825. They just "disappeared". There are cameras, but nobody cares... I reported the incident and was promised to be contacted with the results after some days, but 7 days passed already.
