This RIU Misses the Mark
Our recent stay at the RIU Plaza Panama left much to be desired, as several aspects of the experience fell short of expectations. While the property boasts a convenient location in Panama City, it failed to deliver the vibrant and relaxing resort atmosphere we had anticipated. One of the most disappointing elements was the complete lack of organized activities or entertainment, which are typically hallmarks of a resort experience. The pool area, which could have been a highlight, was similarly underwhelming. There was no music or ambiance to create a lively environment, and the limited seating often left guests scrambling for chairs. Adding to the frustration, towel service came with unnecessary restrictions, making what should be a simple process needlessly complicated. The breakfast experience was another major letdown. While the buffet offered a variety of options, the enjoyment was overshadowed by the excessively long lines each morning. The inconvenience extended beyond dining to other basic amenities. Bottled water was provided sparingly, and there were no water stations available, which felt particularly inconvenient in Panama’s warm climate. Check-in was equally frustrating, with extremely long lines and slow service making for an unpleasant start to the stay. This trend of sluggish service continued in the lounges, where delays in attention detracted from the overall experience. The bars, meanwhile, offered drinks that were of noticeably poor quality, failing to meet the standards one expects at a resort. While the RIU Plaza Panama has potential due to its prime location and infrastructure, it lacks the organization and attention to detail needed to create a truly enjoyable stay. With no entertainment or engaging activities and a series of service-related issues, the resort falls squarely into the “mid-level” category. For travelers seeking a basic place to stay in Panama City, it may suffice, but those looking for a lively and relaxing resort experience may want to look elsewhere.

Hotel of "influencers"
Stayed here post a 2 week cruise and had high expectations having previously stayed in Riu across the world and was disappointed with this one. I unfortunately stayed during the middle of high school graduations and the Miss Latino America contest. Level of service depended on who served you and whether they were willing to help. Room felt dated and showed signs of wear and tear especially in the bathroom where the floor looked chipped and needed replacing in parts. This wasn't the hotel to stay in if you wanted to relax. Staff members including security would move you out of the way to ensure that "influencers" and Miss Latino America could have their photos taken around the pool and in the reception lobby. This took the shine away as it was clear that publicity of the hotel came first over those who had paid to stay there. Would look elsewhere in the future.

Excellent service
The staff was very helpful and the customer service we received was top notch. The breakfast was the best and the food was well presented and delicious. The price of the meals was reasonable. The pool was always clean.

A jewel in the city
We were especially impressed with the magnificent breakfast buffet included with our room and the Ibiza poolside restaurant for lunch and dinner. Both had great selection of delicious meals, reasonably priced. The lobby coffee shop was handy for quick snacks and drinks. Our room was very comfortably furnished, but lacked a microwave. The location was not easily accessible to public transportation, which we would have preferred to walking or using taxis all the time. The sidewalks in that neighborhood are a minefield and heavily littered, though the hotel property itself was immaculate.
