Favorite!
We’ve been visiting Catalonia Grand Costa Mujeres in Cancun for four years, and it remains our top choice for a family vacation. This fresh, wonderful resort offers a beautiful beach, delicious food and drinks, and a range of fun activities for everyone. The spacious, well-appointed rooms and the stunning grounds make it a perfect retreat. A special mention goes to the amazing Kids’ Club, where the wonderful girls, have a positive and joyful energy that our children absolutely adore. Our son is even smitten with girl Paulina and dreams of marrying her someday! 😂 Highly recommend this resort for an unforgettable family getaway.

Our experience was great - the beach is amazing, the hotel is clean and the people are very friendly - especially : Jony the pool and beach manager, Rosa and Julio from the Buffet contributed to a very relaxing experience in the resort. It was our firat time in Mexico but we'll come back for sure.

Relaxing Spring Break
We had an amazing stay! This was our 10th trip to the QR and first time in Costa Mujeres. The shuttle from CUN took about 50 minutes. Upon Arrival around 2:00 PM local time, we were greeted, offered a welcome drink, and directed to the check-in area where we were given our wristbands, which included an RFID chip that acted as our room key (more on the website below). Accommodations: We had booked the Preferred Suite Terrace room and requested to be in a specific building. They were able to accomodate us with a room that had 2 queen bed instead of a king, which was fine. The Suite was spacious with a desk, minibar, coffee maker and a loveseat with TV. There was a lot of storage in the bedroom and another TV. The bath had a single sink and large vanity with a separate frosted glass enclosed toilet and bidet. The shower was HUGE and had 2 rainfall heads and 2 hand-held heads with a large tinted glass wall that was open to the terrace. The center living space had sliding glass doors that opened to the terrace. The terrace spanned all 3 rooms and had a concrete patterned wall with an outdoor shower in front of the indoor shower glass wall. There was a 2-person reclining bed, a loveseat, chair and table. The preferred Terrace rooms were all on the 4th (top) floor and had a pergola overhead. A few comments on some of the complaints we read about prior to our visit: Probably the most frequent issue we read about was dining reservations. When we checked in, we were sent an email confirmation with a link to services. This is where you make dining reservations, as well as the daily schedule of activities. The gentleman at the front desk at check-in showed us where to go on the website and how to make reservations. We had no issues, even on the evening of our arrival getting a table at Steakville (also listed as The Grill). Although not all times were always available on the nights we wanted, we were still able to get reservations at all the restaurants we wanted during our stay. Keep in mind there are also several dining locations other than the buffet that do not take reservations and have availability for dinner. The pool bars do not serve alcohol before 11:00 am local time. This was a change from other resorts we've stayed in the past where 10:00 was the usual time for alcohol. The buffet did have a self-serve mimosa cart for breakfast. Some notes about the resort: We found the prices of merchandise in the shops, specifically in the mini mart to be reasonable and there was a nice selection and variety of items. The food everywhere we ate was very good. The breakfast and other views at BLOVED were the best. The fish tacos at the quiet pool were also a favorite! Overall, we found the resort to be quiet and laid back. We did find it interesting that they did have "towel police." It is highly frowned upon to reserve chairs at the beach and pool to the point where they had staff closely monitoring this. One morning they actually cleared chairs at thew pool, took the towels, photographed any personal items, bagged them and made the spots available because nobody was there. This was the first time we've seen this at a resort. It seemed like there were always spots at the pools somewhere. Chairs at the beach were harder to find, probably because these were not patrolled as closely. The beach was clean and the sargassum was minimal. It did not impact the swimming or the appearance of the clear water. The beach was raked each morning. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and really helped make our trip an enjoyable one. We'd definitely consider staying here again!

Pool chair nightmare
I am definitely writing this review in anger. We had a great time at this resort last year and returned once more, hoping for the same experience. As it is usual in resorts, people tend to find sunchairs for themselves in the morning and reserve them. The hotel is not full this week, but finding chairs in the shade, that is aligning with your preference (not loud with all day party, for example) is a challenge. This morning, the pool manager named Jonathan removed our bath towels and personal belongings from the chairs and by the time we got to the ambient pool, there were no free chairs in the shade. We learned this from the guests sitting there. I talked to this manager. He is telling me that I need to take my stuff with me if I spend more that. 5-10 minutes away from our chairs. Despite this talk, there are no more available chairs during the day. It seems that pool staff expect guests to look at their watches while hanging out in the pool - this is not how people like to behave while on vacation. Don’t get me wrong, I understand how it is unfair to reserve chairs that I am not using. However, there is no place to put my personal belongings next to the pool or the beach. Nor there are enough chairs to always find somewhere to sit. All I saw this morning was frustrated guests wailking around looking for their stuff. I do not understand how this practice benefits the hotel or the guests here. I would suggest to fix the systemic issues first - number of chairs and umbrellas and then go for the guests who just try to have a good time.

First family vacation
We really enjoyed our week at Catalonia grand. The staff were friendly and everything was very clean. We got a family suite with a pool and were very happy. I think we lucked out because our pool was quite private compared to all the rest we saw and we also got the afternoon sun to warm it up. It was room 3007. The beach was beautiful and we never really had a problem finding a chair. The only complaint I have was that in the mornings I would have liked a caeser or Bailey’s and coffee, but couldn’t find a place to get one even though the app said that certain bars should be open. All in all it was a great trip and we would return.
