A Birthday to Remember🥳
The concierge lady at the time was very welcoming. She informed us of everything we needed to know during the stay as well as who we may call for help if the need arises. The room was very much clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly, bartenders and waitresses. We also met two lovely staff members by the name of Jan and Kamari (big up y’all👌🏾) . The food was very tasty as well. Since, it was my birthday, I was given a few treats which I very much appreciated. There was one incident, where our lunch took way too long to arrive at the pool bar, however, the bartender at the time apologized for the mishap. Overall, there weren’t many complains, we entirely enjoyed our stay! We will definitely be back soon!

No worries, just relax
Can’t say enough about the staff. Everyone was friendly and accommodating. First trip to St. Lucia. The staff served us a wonderful dinner on the pier to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary at sunset. Our stay was peaceful and relaxing. We would definitely recommend Calabash Cove.

Four star resort in a sensational setting
I paid a premium to book a Sunset Oceanview Junior Suite with a fully inclusive food and beverage package for myself and my husband. The Calabash Cove hotel was categorised as a five star resort on the British Airways holiday page, and online via Tripadvisor and other websites. The photographs showed breathtaking views, a well maintained hotel with a stunning swimming pool and guest reviews were generally glowing. On arrival at the hotel with five bags of luggage, I was surprised that no one came to greet us, or to carry the bags. The person manning the reception desk appeared to be busy and when I went over he told me to ask the driver to bring our bags down to the reception area. This was an unusual start to our holiday after a long and tiring journey. Although sprinkled with flowers and petals on the day we arrived, the room we were given was hardly five star. First of all, the room was misnamed. There was a sideways balcony looking over the sea, but the sun set behind some trees, so we couldn’t actually see the sunset. I was surprised to find there was just one tiny wardrobe for all of our clothes. The bathroom facilities were not what I expected either. The shower room and separate loo lacked ventilation and the lavatory did not flush very easily. The shower head was fixed. There was no hair conditioner just a rather runny “conditioning shampoo” (I wish it had known this in advance as I would have brought my own). Bottles of body wash and a divinely coconut scented lotion were glued to a stand on a double washbasin with hardly any spare room for our toiletries. A large part of the bedroom was taken up by a clunky looking jacuzzi bath. This was shown on the hotel’s website filled with bubbly water and petals. When I attempted to use the bath, I discovered it took an hour to fill just above the water nozzles. Even then it wasn’t quite full enough and sprayed water all over my hair and the bedroom. And there was no bubble bath, salts or soap of any sort to use in the bath. Plus, the towels were too small and there weren’t enough of them. There is no pandering to guests at this hotel. When I asked if they had any makeup remover pads, the response was a simple, “no.” The antiquated air conditioning unit in our room sounded like a jet engine and kept us awake for the first few nights until we got used to it. Though it still occasionally woke us up as it abruptly stopped and started. The swimming pool was potentially beautiful, but not when we visited. Some of the tiles were missing and the pool was not entirely full of water - so it was not an infinity pool as presented in the photos. We discovered why when we dined overlooking a floodlit team of workmen repairing the front elevation of the pool. The fabric of the building could certainly do with some updating. Perhaps also the plumbing. I was reminded of a 1980s trip to the Algarve when, for a couple of days, workmen toiled in a hole dug on a main stair landing leading to guest rooms and the restaurant/reception. The gym had some pretty old equipment, but was serviceable. In my opinion, the resort would benefit from the addition of a daily exercise class, like yoga on the beach. We also booked some five star-priced massages at the spa and had a curiously un-Zen-like experience. The spa is tiny and as someone was sitting in the waiting area when we arrived, we were asked to sit and wait in the nail bar, which smelt of nail polish and acetone. We had not been asked if we wanted our massages indoors or out, but ours were in a smallish room and were rather more heavy handed than we are used to. Moreover, at the end of the massage the beds were not lowered so we almost fell to the floor of the dimly lit room. On the upside, the location of this hotel is magnificent. The gardens are well maintained and a joy to behold - a haven for birds and wildlife. The only downside was when a gardener was using a strimmer to cut hedges and grass behind us on the beach for two days. Not a relaxing experience! The beach is a good size and there are ample lounging facilities for guests. The drinks service on the beach was variable and offered (usually just once) on some days and not others. Unlike most five star resorts, there were no beach or pool attendants to help with towels etc. it was all a bit DIY. The unmanned guest shop is open from 7.0-11.0 am only and you have to take items to the reception desk to pay. I do not wish to be entirely negative. The food and drinks selection at this hotel are excellent. We enjoyed some wonderful meals. I should have photographed the menus, but recall there was a fabulous St. Lucian breakfast, coconut pancakes with ginger compote, dishes like wahoo in creole sauce, sesame crusted ahi tuna, cajun spiced dorado with callaloo, curried chicken roti, a delicious octopus dish, and the best tiramisu I have ever eaten. Whilst I would have expected freshly squeezed orange juice, at least there were some new (for me) taste experiences available, like tamarind juice. The specified dress code of long trousers and collared shirts at dinner (for men) was not adhered to, with many opting for shorts instead. It is strange that tables in the restaurant are allocated on a first come first served basis, this means the service starts super early and ends early too. It also means those who have paid more for their rooms don’t necessarily get the best tables. Live music finishes at 9.0 pm by which time the restaurant is virtually empty. The all inclusive drinks list is generous and the barman, Deion, will even create a personalised cocktail for you. The swim up bar in the pool closes at 5.0 pm. I had my first cocktail on our last day and would have liked another at 5.15 pm whilst waiting for the sunset at around 6.15 pm, but the bar was already closed. By far the best dining experience was a private dinner (well worth the additional cost) on the pier with a personal waiter - the charming Karami (apologies if this spelling is incorrect) - and some fabulous tempura shrimp and red snapper, not forgetting the sensational views. A night to remember. The manager’s cocktail party was also great fun and it was lovely to meet some of the important staff behind the scenes, like the head of security, and the lovely and helpful Michelle. This hotel’s owner and staff are super friendly and warm. I think it may just be a little understaffed. The resort has an authentic charm that you don’t find so much these days - but, although I love shabby chic, I was disappointed by the lack of five star luxury I thought we had paid for. When our transfer arrived, two reception staff disappeared into their office - leaving my husband and our driver to carry our bags to the car - returning only to wave us off. Unless there are some major changes, I don’t think we will be coming back.

Honeymoon of a lifetime!
What an amazing time had at this place, from the moment you walk in, the reception view is breathtaking, the service is brilliant, the accommodation is amazing, albeit a lot of steps to navigate for those more unsteady on their feet, however this should not take away from the fact that this truly is a secluded cove of paradise on the island. We came here on our honeymoon, 10 months after our wedding as we wanted to wait till the best weather in St. Lucia and boy was it worth the wait. I honestly don’t know what the bad reviews are talking about for this place, because it is nothing short of spectacular. The room views are stunning, we were in Room 206, with a small balcony looking out over the cove with a small canopy of gorgeous flowers at our feet. We were fortunate enough to be on the all inclusive package and they were gracious enough to exchange the bottles of drink in our room to ones we preferred (even locating Aperol, which isn’t normally sold on the island except in duty free shops). The bed was too soft for me but my wife loved melting in it! One tiny tiny thing for us is the light for the toilet was by the front door, which meant so many times we forgot when walking in that we have to walk out again to make sure we could see in the toilet lol, can’t help electrics though!!! The restaurant, which people we saw moaned about the speed of service, is superb, don’t know what these other reviewers are on about - come to the Caribbean to chill, you are on island time!!! - the food is truly excellent and the daily changing specials meant we very rarely ate the same thing for two weeks. Chef Burt does an outstanding job with the team in that kitchen. The St Lucian breakfast is to die for. The beach is stunning, a secluded cove, with floating jetty/sunbed things that make this paradise worth the travel. Sure a couple kids do swim over and play (it was their Easter holidays) but security does keep an eye on them and tell them this is not allowed. Only once did it get too noisy for us. The rest of the time was so quiet as so few rooms here that you do feel like you have the place to yourself at times. Met some lovely people around the pool area which has views which will live long in our memory. Staff here are wonderful, and we shall sadly miss our almost nightly jokes and drinks with Dion the barman, (long live The Debbie cocktail, we really hope it makes the menu!), Teddy with his Specials, Travis, Daniel, Mussiah (wrong spelling perhaps?) and Sandy, Michelle and Kevin too. All wonderful people and couldn’t do enough. Big thanks to Teddy and Dion for also caring when I had an upset stomach and brought me their stomach settling tonics. Think I overindulged the day before but it put me right as rain!! We love this place so much and it will hold a special place in our hearts forever, thank you Calabash Cove for making this so memorable. Pay no mind to the weatherman and enjoy the island time!!!! Big love to all!
