Would not Recommend! Not a 5-Star!

Transat ranks this resort as a 5-star which is described as a luxury resort with first-class accommodations. If this is a 5-star, it is a very tired one. It needs some attention/upgrades in several areas. On the positive, the food was great with lots of variety and choice. Bar services also great. The app to reserve restaurant bookings was very helpful although we weren’t aware of it until day 2. The staff was friendly and helpful. Check-in and checkout were quick and easy for us, although we arrived and left at non-peak hours. Wi-Fi was good (the concierge desk gave us a different wi-fi connection after we kept getting bumped off) and it extended all over the resort – inside and out. Communication was an issue. There was either very limited entertainment or we didn’t know where and when it was. We were in Building #6. One of the elevators was out of order for the entire week. Our room was very tired. Although it was clean, a strong musty smell hit us when we checked in, which got better over the week (or we got more used to it). Our closet doors would not stay closed - quite annoying as we had to walk past them frequently. It was great to have a balcony and the shower was one of the nicest I have experienced, with a large sunflower head, a strong spray and lots of hot water. The resort is very large and covers a big distance from the lobby to the rooms to the beach. For anyone with mobility issues, this will be a challenge. There were shuttles that ran every 20 minutes or so –a long time when you are waiting in the hot sun. When they did come by, there was often no room left in them. Definitely need more access to drives. Like many of the local beaches, seaweed was an issue at times. Crews were working hard to rake it up as best they could. A walk to the lagoon (about 15 minutes) is well worth it. The most negative aspect of the entire week was the significant lack of pool and beach chairs. Each of the pools had large empty spaces for lounge chairs with no chairs there. One should not have to get up in the dark of morning just to grab one of the very few chairs. Fights over chairs and the exchange of nasty words speak to the level of guest frustration with this situation, which has apparently been going on for several years. I will not return to this resort and I cannot recommend it.

    Pleasantly surprised

I am glad I don't put too much weight in most reviews. If I would have we would have done an injustice to this resort. From the time we arrived at the Bluebay we were greeted and treated great. Our room was wonderful, building 2, 2 bathroom (awesome). The grounds were well maintained. The grounds staff was busy all day. The beach staff was busy all day removing seaweed that washed up the night before, which the resort can not control seaweed. The food did not disappoint. Some was a little strange for America's but not bad. The specialty restaurants we all great. We only missed the French restaurant because of getting back late from an excursion. I would definitely return to this resort.

    Not recommended

Building 7 lived up to the reviews on here. They wouldn’t move us for two nights so we had to upgrade to move to building 5. (Three different rooms because of the size of our group). We only had one a la cart, it was always full. Middle of the road for cleanliness. It’s definitely not a five star. The service was just ok. Honestly, I will not be back and I will not recommend my friends visit this resort. I had to call to get new towels one day and they didn’t have facecloths unless I asked. It’s not Cuba, Mexico should have these in the room. Food was ok but again no a la carts.

The entertainment team, Kaci and silver were sooooo sweet. Their energy was amazing. They made the day so much fun with the activities. Felt like family to us. I’ll definitely remember them forever. The food here was good! Just wish there was more options without bacon!
