My fiance and I stayed at Barcelo San Jose for two nights at the end of our Costa Rica trip. I chose this hotel because it was close to the airport and had a free airport shuttle. We were very pleasantly surprised by how nice the hotel was when we showed up. The food options are great, the spa services were wonderful, and the overall atmosphere feels luxurious without being pricey. My only complaints were that the room smelled a little bit musty - likely because of the humidity, and that it was difficult to get ahold of housekeeping when they did not provide us towels. I would stay here again if I had to be near the airport in San Jose for a couple days.

Good option for a hotel midway between the city center and the airport
We stayed at this hotel for one night prior to our flight home. The room was comfortable, with a private outdoor area, check-in a little slow, good sports bar with many TV options throughout, good selections at the buffet breakfast and a free shuttle to the airport. Reasonable price - a great option for us.

Dec 30, 2024Super unreliable service, but decent hotel
The rooms are comfortable and clean. The hotel has decent facilities. However, their free transfer from the airport is super unreliable. We booked a collection for 4.30pm and arrived at the designated collection point at 4.15pm. I messaged the hotel at 4.35pm to say that we were still waiting, but got no response. I sent another message at 5pm and got no response. At 5.25pm a random taxi driver helped us call the hotel. We were told they would arrive at 5.30pm, but they didn’t. He called them again at 5.40pm and we were told they’d arrive at 6.30pm. We took a taxi in the end. They offered us a welcome drink to compensate after we complained on arrival. That was insulating as it was a watered-down crushed ice cocktail with no flavour. We ordered room service that evening, which was not good value for money.

We stayed one night after a late flight into San Jose from NYC. We loved the hotel's proximity to the airport and that there was still room service available. The bed was so comfortable and breakfast buffet plentiful. It set us up for the drive to La Fortuna the next day.

An Oldie but a Goodie
This was my second stay at this hotel. The previous one was 15 yrs ago. The hotel grounds are lovely and quite enjoyable as is the pool area.Rooms were clean and linens very comfortable.

This ban on alcohol starts the Thursday prior to Easter and runs through Easter Sunday. A few hotels purchase special permits to serve alcohol, but generally it is not available. In addition, most restaurants, shops, and bars will be closed for the same time period. Restaurants in the hotels will be operating. The City Tour will not be operating.
