Terrible food and horrible service
I would never revisit the Barcelo family of resorts based on the food and service alone. I would not recommend to anyone who is well-traveled. The property is very nice, but the food is just terrible. Except the ceviche.

Barceló Maya Palace – where not only stars fall…
This was our third and definitely last visit to Barceló. We’ve stayed at the adults-only section, at Tropical, and now—tragically—at Palace. It all started with a bang: we arrived at 2 PM, walked into a reception area so hot and slow that a woman in the line fainted. Moments later, a member of our own family collapsed too. Hotel staff? Completely unfazed. Instead of offering help, they handed her documents to sign and tried to charge her credit card while she was half-conscious. Oh, and they insisted on running the card in Mexican pesos—to sneak in an extra $10 on the exchange rate. Classy move. By the time we were done checking in, it was 4:30 PM. One of the room keys didn’t work, so that part of the family had to run back through the heat, exhausted and hungry, just to get it reactivated. Not a single apology from the staff. Service? There is no such thing here. The next day, our group grew to 11. At the buffet, we were told that only 10 people are allowed per table, and one person had to sit separately. We explained we were one family, pleaded, reasoned—but rules are rules, even if they are nowhere to be found on the hotel’s website. As a cherry on top, a manager watched another table where 11 people were seated, walked over, ripped the chair out from under a young man mid-bite, and told him to sit at a different table. We were stunned. We had two birthdays to celebrate—65 and 35—and booked a restaurant in advance. No one said a word about the "10-people-max" rule during reservation. Yet again, same ridiculous policy, same robotic enforcement, same disappointment. And don’t even get us started on the sunbed wars. People reserve loungers with towels early in the morning, then disappear for hours. Want to sit down at the pool or beach? Good luck. It’s a ghost town of unoccupied but "taken" chairs. Thank you, Barceló. That was… unforgettable. Never again.

Excellent resort
Beautiful, affordable all inclusive resort. You have so many choices for restaurants, bars, activities, and pools that there is no way you will be hungry or bored ever. Beside the check in process ( than can be easy or nightmare, depends on the day and time of the day) everything is excellent.

This place sucks
It was terrible because the food was either fake or not edible if your handicapped or have troubles physically I wouldn’t recommend this stay and there is lots of space for walking which isn’t good for anyone handicapped or physically troubled
