A Disastrous Stay at BARCELÓ Karmina Resort, Manzanillo
I am deeply disappointed with my recent stay at BARCELÓ Karmina Resort in Manzanillo, and I feel compelled to share my unpleasant experience. Upon arrival, the doormen were completely inattentive and did not offer any assistance with unloading luggage. I was traveling with my mom and two infants, so a little help would’ve been appreciated, but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. The check-in experience was equally frustrating. Angela, the staff member who assisted us, was extremely rude and unprofessional. She had a horrible attitude, and instead of being welcoming, she immediately demanded additional documentation beyond what’s normally required. In addition to our ID and credit card, she insisted on seeing bank statements, additional passport verifications for both adults and infants, and even demanded a handwritten letter confirming our reservation. I have never experienced such intrusive and unnecessary requests at any other hotel. When I made my reservation, I specifically requested a room on the first floor due to traveling with a stroller and my mom, who has a broken foot. Instead, I was initially assigned a room on the fifth floor, which I declined. I was then moved to a room on the first floor—but on the opposite side of the resort, with even more stairs to climb. This was not the accessibility I had requested and caused further inconvenience. Now, onto the room itself, which was a nightmare: 1. There was no internet access at all in our room. Maintenance was sent every single day, but no one could fix it. This was a huge issue, especially for staying in touch with family and handling any online needs. 2. Our door did not lock properly, and you could open it without needing the key, simply by pushing it. Despite multiple maintenance requests, this issue was never addressed. I’m just thankful nothing went missing. 3. The ceiling was leaking, and the room had a damp, moldy smell. The conditions were far from acceptable. 4. The phone in the room didn’t work, and every time I tried to call the front desk, the line was always busy. It was incredibly frustrating to not be able to communicate with hotel staff. 5. The bathtub was useless since the drain didn’t work and the water wouldn’t stay. No proper bath was possible. 6. The room was extremely outdated, and the level of cleanliness was subpar. The mold and humidity were unbearable, and it was clear that the room had not been properly maintained in quite some time. To make matters worse, we had a horrible neighbor who rudely knocked on our door and yelled at us to stop our six-month-old baby from crying at night because they were “there to relax.” This was at a family resort, where noise from children is to be expected! Throughout our stay, the resort failed to accommodate us, and their customer service was non-existent. There were also multiple families in the lobby arguing with staff over similar issues, but instead of addressing their complaints, the staff merely laughed in their faces and rolled their eyes. It was clear that this hotel is unprofessional and does not take guest concerns seriously. This was, by far, one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had, and I will never be returning to BARCELÓ Karmina. The resort’s advertising is misleading, and the overall lack of hospitality and care for guests is appalling. I would strongly advise others to avoid this hotel if they want a pleasant vacation experience.

Awesome value and lots of fun for everyone.
Barceló Karmina once again exceeds my expectations and made my vacation lovely and relaxing. I stayed recently with a couple of friends that I recommended the resort to and they also had a great time. The food, the shows, the service, the rooms, were all excellent and my friends were impressed, especially for the value. Their only complaint was that it seemed that many people did not speak English (they cannot speak Spanish), and they had difficulty with some of the staff at times, especially when waiting in the lobby to be checked in. One girl in particular (Itzy?) went to take my friend's drink orders but she could not communicate with them, and they said they felt ignored by her after. Other than needing more English-proficient staff, I would highly recommend this resort to everyone, whether you're going on a trip with friends or family. I will definitely stay there again!

First Mexico all inclusive and not the last Barcelo
I’ve scavenged, researched and watched hundreds of videos months before going for my husbands bday. We went as a family of 3 and 2 friends. If you are looking for brand new, latest and greatest, this resort is not for you. Have to be mindful that this is provincial Mexico and expect to see things differently from wherever country we come from. On that note, Barcelo Karmina provided way more than what I was expecting! Yes the beach is small but it keeps the waves out and water is clear enough to snorkel in. Saw different types of fish down there, very exciting! Tip, wear water shoes, the sand is not pure and is a little rocky but this little cove is exactly what we were looking for. On slow days, usually mid weeks, there is only one specialty restaurant open. We tried all 3 and the best one is the Mexican restaurant cause of the flavor then the Japanese because of all the fresh seafood. Italian was just ok in our book. The waiters in all 3 restaurants worked their butts off and you can tell. We loved the buffet. It does rotate and there are some dishes that were the same but who doesn't want chilaquiles everyday for breakfast?! There were tons of options for the baby aswell, and the staff was great offering us drinks and remembering our faces! We saw some night shows and all were entertaining. You can tell the performers all work hard and give their all. The cheese fries and ice cream at the shack is the perfect mid day snack along with a margarita, again, service A+++ Lets talk about our room. Just wow! The view, the fresh air, the privacy, this is where your money goes! Even the non premium rooms had great views just outside their door! The premium lounge is small but its great to hang out in after walking around in the sun, getting a little or a lot buzzed before meals and just relaxing in the AC. We didn’t use the pools but a lot of people were having a blast at each and every direction. Overall we had such a great experience, would definitely recommend! Here’s a few tips. **tips*** - get your own private transfer to and from the airport ( I recommend Tours De Manzanillo) such great folks to deal with! - there is an atm right under the stairs of main lobby if you need to get money. Front desk will exchange 500 mxn a day for smaller bills. -Scan your wrist band! All the information you need from activity times, room service menu and in betweens are in there. - get premium, specially if you are looking for the nicer top floor rooms and those premium drinks. - return your towel cards! This will help you at check out. I think they charge if you don’t - room service is included in premium (except for alcohol) - don’t be afraid to test your spanish skills! The staff are very much appreciative that you are trying even just small words. Even if you don’t, there are a good amount that are very fluent in english. - tip! Smile, relax, you are going on a holiday.

Wonderful time in Karmina!
Got back late last night from our trip to Karmina! This was our third stay at the property over twenty plus years. The most spectacular thing about the Karmina, in my opinion, would be the gorgeous grounds and the spectacular pools. They make for a very lovely setting. We rested so well! The rooms are lovely and spacious. Very quiet restful time in Karmina. Exactly what we needed! Our maid in room # 4006 was excellent. Overall, I would give the experience a 3.8. The food is good I wouldn't say spectacular. But it is also reflective of the price of the resort. It is a very reasonable amount of money for beautiful accommodations, food and beverages. The ala carte restaurants are quite nice. Not much guacamole this trip. It was only served in the Mexican Ala Carte restaurant and then pretty sparingly. My hunch is that it is expensive. Loved the salmon lox at breakfast with the beautiful array of fruits and veggies to start the day. As always, we are returning filled with gratitude for the lovely Mexican people that served us so beautifully! Thank you Karmina!

Not a 4 star!
Not a great place for Canadians. Lack of English speaking staff. The entertainment was mostly in Spanish and poor quality shows. Weekends the “locals” took over resort, which caused service to be worse. Took over pools and staff catered to locals. Poor beach. Poor bar service. Average food; expected more variety and better quality for a 4 star. Pillows on bed were horrible, sheets were worn and had holes. Not worth the money paid.
