Just Okay
We previously stayed here in March 2024. I would say that since then the food quality, service and overall property maintenance are all on the downhill, unfortunately. The beach is still beautiful and the pools were perfect for our December getaway, but we were sadly disappointed overall.

First and Last Time!
Let me preface this review by saying we are low key, low maintenance, basic travelers who do not expect to be catered to. However, when we spend this kind of money and are treated like complete and utter garbage by rude employees and spend the first 2 days of our vacation with no hot water and no apologies, it doesn't sit well. Was reported twice to two different hostile, rude employees, one in guest services who was also rude with dinner reservations and clearly needs a new job, and another time to the front desk where we begged for a new room only to be treated like dirt. I don't know where people are staying that they are getting friendly employees and good food, because it's not here! The food is almost inedible, and we are not picky eaters. Do not eat at the Coral seafood restaurant, it's disgusting. The alcohol being poured out of top shelf liquor bottles is NOT Absolut and Jack Daniels, but some watered down chemical tasting nasty bottom shelf liquor. And that's if you can find a rude bartender to wait on you, because they were downright condescending. The room is straight out of the '90s, which was fine with us, comfy bed and pillows and didn't care about decor. There were children running around the lobby bar at this ADULTS only resort, and screaming children on the ADULTS only beach, had to leave because I was tired of listening to it. It's adults only and yet no hot tubs or swim-up bar. The only reason it gets a 2 is because the beach and pool really are beautiful. We met multiple other couples who were experiencing the same low level of quality and service as we were, so it wasn't just us being disgruntled. We will return to the DR but not stay here.

Great stay at Barcelo Beach - Adult Side
We stayed at the resort for 2 weeks. Enjoyed our stay. The room was large, AC worked great, and nice and clean. Staff came to clean and refill refrigerator daily. The pool is awesome. Large with in pool loungers and some loungers in the pool with shade. Didn't have to go down at the break of down to get a spot. Never felt crowded like the Palace side. Downside is no in pool bar. There is one right there and there is waitress service at the pool which we liked. The entertainment staff works hard to involve you if you want to. Many activities with a nice break in activities between 12:30 - 2;30 p.m. It would be nice to have an app to keep track of the activities, but they are posted by the towel counter. The beach is the best! Soft sand, easy to walk, calm water in comparison to other resorts on Punta Cana, snorkel right on the beach to see sea turtles, sting ray, puffer fish, etc. Bring your own gear as the check out spot is about 1/2 mile walk to the Palace side. Lots of loungers, sand volleyball, and activities on the beach. We would return to the adult side. We have also stayed on the Palace side and when we go back we will go back to Barcelo Beach.

This was our third stay at this resort. Excellent beach property. Beautiful beach, especially for those who like long walk. We stay at the adult part of the resort Very good food. Over all great experience

If you're looking for a quiet vacation with friendly staff, good food, and no children around.. this isn't it.
I was excited to try this resort as it looked great from the pictures. Unfortunately, most of the negative reviews are correct. The rooms are worn out, though large. The courtesy showers by guest services are somehow 100x better than those in-room. The food is pretty bad - there are many options, but most are unidentifiable or taste terrible. How do you make charcuterie taste bad!? The descriptions, when they are present, are often wrong, which should worry someone with food allergies. The paper restaurant reservation system is a mess and honestly the food there isn't much better than the buffets. In addition, they tend to clear the salad and dessert bars early so you may find yourself with only your main course. The ice cream machines seem to never work, and getting refills on drinks is a task since they force you to wait for the staff to come around. Oh the staff.. once in a while you will find a friendly face (generally just the buffet staff), but otherwise everyone from front desk to pool bar and restaurant waiters are clearly unhappy to be in your presence and won't bother to hide that fact. When a staff member deems you worthy of acknowledgment (which many just walk by and look the other way, especially bar staff), you almost never get a greeting and never a smile. For a customer service role, these employees are clearly not qualified. Finally, for an adults only resort there sure are a lot of kids running around. While you won't find many in the little resort area itself, the beach is routinely occupied by kids and families from the nearby Palace resort, who take up the beach chairs and volleyball courts, etc. In addition the blasting music from the nearby boats anchored at the nearby marina area prevents you from enjoying what should be a serene beach setting. Oh and the wrist bands are crimped on using pliers, and some of the staff doesn't seem to know how to do this well. Mine fell off the second day and luckily I caught it lest I be charged with the $50 fee for replacement. In short, if you are looking for a relaxing and quiet, kid-free atmosphere, look elsewhere. If you want good food, look elsewhere. If you want friendly service, stay FAR away from this place.
