Paradise found
We had seen this resort on our last visit to the island a few years ago and said it was on our list to stay. It did not disappoint. The resort is located by the majestic Piton mountains and on Anse Chastanet beach in 600 acres of lush tropical forest. The resort is perfectly small with only 49 individually designed rooms which are all scattered through the hills and on the beach. There is lots to keep you occupied if you want an active holiday (bikes, walking trails, scuba, sailing and snorkelling) or really comfortable sunbeds if you just want to laze on under sunshades. The beach has the most comfortable sunbeds with sunshades and towels are provided. (There are plenty to go round). The sand is fine and is flecked with quartz. Drinks and food can be served at your sunbed or there is the restaurant just a few steps away. The food and drinks were of top quality. The menus were well thought through and there was always a mix of local dishes and international cuisine. All dietary types were catered for. The drinks are premium brands and the wine list is very good. There is entertainment every evening in the bar until 10pm. This was perfect for us. The staff are very friendly and helpful and always on hand. We found the resort was just right for us as a couple. We went for total rest and relaxation and that is what we found. This is definitely not a criticism, but an observation that the steps down to the beach are very steep, well worth the effort though. We are already thinking of booking for next year - what does that tell you?

No need to photo shop this place
The beach truly is an incredible work of nature. But, it is because of the kind and professional people in the photo below that we are returning this year. Thank you for allowing guests from cold climates to share the beauty of your home land and experience the spirit of the Saint Lucian people.

A Warm Caribbean Welcome
At the foot of St Lucia’s cone-shaped island, the Anse Chastenet resort sits on 600 acres of conserved forest. Rooms are built into a hillside with stairs to the beach, a protected cove with reefs to snorkel, wicker chairs under thatched huts, 2 bars, a scuba center and a yoga gazebo. If this sounds like paradise, it is. For active visitors, there are the Pitons, two picturesque volcanic humps to climb, if you’re up for 3200 ft of elevation gain. For snorkelers, there are fish in the coral reef, and sea turtles in the seagrass. Tennis players have courts under palm trees. For foodies, chef-prepared meals of fresh fish, Caribbean flavored stews snd soups, and delicate French influenced desserts. Chocolate is grown and harvested at the resort, and turned into pure deliciousness by the chocolatier. For us, Meno’s guided nature walk was a highlight. But every day was just as fine as the one before it. Leaving this well-run resort was the sad part.

Paradise Found
Anse Chastanet Soufriere Paradise Found 998600307 With accommodations set above the mountain lending breathtaking views of the pitons and the Caribbean, a stay at Asne Chastenet and Jade Mountain is Paradise Found. Two beautiful beaches. Gorgeous grounds. Flora and fauna abound. The air conditioned Beach Rooms, the perfect fit. Steps away from the beach. And the Beach Grill. As for the 100 steps and walking challenges, there are complimentary vans and water taxis at the ready to transfer you at a moments notice. Need only ask. Snorkeled in the protected reef. Sunset Jazz Cruised. Kayaked. Sailed. Bird watched. Toured with tour guide extraordinaire, Meno, aka Father Nature. He was one of the highlights of our stay. Not to be missed. So much to do. So little time. Exquisite cuisine. Delicious cocktails. (All inclusive is the way to go.) Treehouse, Emeralds, Beach Grill, Jungle Grill. Jade Mountain for lunch and/or dinner. All excellent. Exceptional service throughout our stay. Staff and Management can’t do enough for you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to the management and staff who made everything as right as rain. You made this a trip of a lifetime. Kate, Al, Kat and Oscar Captain Ted Lennox from Sugar Boat Charters did our airport transfer to Asne Chastenet and a subsequent transfer from there to Sandal’s Grande. From start to finish, it was an exceptional experience. Ted tracked our flight and had a taxi at the ready to receive us at the airport. After a short ride, we arrived at the dock where Captain Ted and First Mate Grace loaded our luggage onto the boat and off we went. We were treated to the most incredible St. Lucian sunset and breathtaking views. Ted drove us right up to the dock at Asne Chastenet, hoisted the luggage onto the dock, rolled up to an awaiting van, and then onto Registration whist our luggage was being delivered to our rooms. Seamless. Perfect way to navigate St. Lucia!

Missed the mark unfortunately
This was nearly such a great holiday, but because it was so close to being good it made it all the more disappointing. The Positives The staff were generally great, polite, friendly and efficient. The beach umbrellas were fantastic, with plenty to go round. No early morning reservations needed here. The loungers were comfortable. The beach staff come along and get you set up with towels when you arrive each day. The beach itself was well maintained with no rubbish. The setting was pretty, with a lot of wildlife and plants. The beach staff were excellent, just put out your flag and they take the order, then bring the food and drink to your lounger. You just sign to charge it to your room. The maids/housekeeping were good, but room did need a deep clean! We stayed in a beachfront room, which meant we had air conditioning. The facilities in the room were good. The shower was the best we’ve ever had on holiday, and it didn’t leak all over the rest of the bathroom. Toiletries, hairdryer, torch all provided. There was a very large balcony with seating. Slightly strange set up as the kettle and fridge were on the balcony. Also there are both UK and US plugs, but not loads of either. We found taking a four way extension lead and a 2 pin adapter meant we had more flexible charging arrangements. Breakfast was really good, with a full selection of continental buffet to choose from and cooked dishes ordered from the menu. Some of our other meals were delicious. The hotels daily free activities were fun and enjoyable, we tried mixology, chocolate testing and a history/nature walk. There are also plenty paid activities as well as off-site excursions. The negatives The bed in our room was uncomfortable, the mattress appeared to offer no support. There was building noise directly outside, which meant that we couldn’t go back to the room during the day and chill. The room was set amongst the gardens with trees all around, however as we had an upper floor room this resulted in almonds and other objects falling on our roof several times each night, which was disturbing and scary. There are no phones, or Televisions for that matter, in the rooms, which is fine, I don’t want to watch TV anyway. However, you are given a mobile phone to use to contact the hotel, if you want to use the shuttle to get around etc. This is quite a large brick of a phone which you then have to carry everywhere, which we found annoying, especially as when we did try to utilise it nobody answered. As we were trying to go to dinner one night our safe refused to lock, the hotel couldn’t fix it until the following day, so we ended up taking passports, iPad etc to dinner with us. The Cove was really busy with lots and lots of boat traffic, it certainly is not a peaceful relaxing location. Some days there were quite a large number of cruise ship day pass guests using the beach, restaurant and bar area. There were quite a few jellyfish in the sea, and there were lots of times we got stung, painful but harmless. We didn’t feel like going into the water as much as we might have done elsewhere. We don’t usually use a pool, as we prefer the beach, however I think I missed having a pool as an alternative on this occasion., there aren’t usually any creatures in the pool. Probably the worst issue we had was the food. I have dietary restrictions due to a medical condition. The hotel assured me before booking that they could cater for these. It all started well with a meeting with the chef and a meal on our first night. Unfortunately the second night didn’t go so well. As an apology we were offered a special meal, which also went spectacularly wrong. Food just became hard work, we did have some absolutely lovely meals but I think anxiety over the meals just made it difficult to relax and kick back.
- Advisory**Note: There are no TV's, radios or telephones in the rooms. Also, the only rooms with air conditioning are the Beachside Deluxe rooms.
