Poor communication and a $50 Amenity fee a A DAY to use their in room kettle
MAKE SURE TO ASK REGARDING AMENITY FEE Amenity Fee Disappointment (Paying to use the in-room coffee machine is a bit much....) Feels very unethical, especially not explaining to guest regarding these fees or what these fees entails. I recently stayed at Alohilani Resort, and while the experience had its positives, I feel it’s important to share a few concerns—particularly regarding the amenity fees. First off, I want to acknowledge that the staff were friendly, the hotel was clean, and the aesthetic and location are undeniably beautiful. These aspects contributed positively to my stay. However, what significantly impacted my experience was the unexpected $372 amenity fee that was taken from my account. At no point during check-in was this clearly communicated, and I was genuinely shocked when I realized the charge. To add to this, a $300 security deposit was also held—bringing the total withheld amount to $672. That’s a significant sum for anyone, especially when you're not utilizing most of the amenities. I don’t drive. I wasn’t at the hotel much. I mainly slept there. Yet I was still charged as if I had used everything. There was no water refill after the first day, and even that bottled water is part of the amenity fee. It genuinely felt like I was paying for basic in-room items—like the kettle, the iron, and even the air I breathed. It left me wondering what exactly I paid for. It’s disheartening to know that in today’s hospitality industry, guests are essentially paying just to sleep in a room, with nearly everything else coming at an extra charge. That’s not the kind of feeling you want to leave a hotel with, especially one that markets itself as a luxury resort. Sadly, this left a bad taste in my mouth. While I once saw Alohilani as a go-to spot in Hawaii, this experience may very well be my last stay there. I truly hope the hotel revisits how these fees are presented and handled—transparency is key.

Ignored, overcharged and let down. not a 5 star hotel! AVOID
I stayed at Alohilani Resort from February 9–13, 2025, and sadly, the experience fell far below expectations, especially for a hotel that markets itself as five-star. The lobby looks beautiful, but unfortunately, that’s where the luxury ends. The rest of the hotel felt old, outdated, and our room had a strong moldy/old smell that made it uncomfortable to spend time in. My friend had just had surgery, so we were in the room often during the day, which made the loud daytime construction right outside our window even worse. When I brought this up, I was told the hotel was fully booked and couldn’t move us, but that I would be refunded for the final night. There were other incidents during our stay that led to the hotel promising to refund our amenity fees (about $286). I was personally reassured by a manager that everything was noted and would be applied at checkout. Not only were none of the promised refunds processed, but I was also charged an additional $100 with no explanation. Since then, I’ve emailed the manager and front desk multiple times, called, messaged the front desk, and submitted a contact form, and it’s now been over a month with no response. Meanwhile, I’ve had to pay interest on my credit card for charges that should have been removed. The cleaning staff was incredibly kind and hardworking, but beyond that, this was a terrible experience. The lack of professionalism and follow-through is unacceptable. This is not a five-star resort, and I would not recommend it to anyone.

Not what you see in the pictures! Not worth what you pay for.
The lobby is beautiful. The beds are comfortable. However, the rooms are below average and not clean at all. The carpet is very dirty and I could smell a urine smell in the room. I felt like I was in a one star hotel. Not like the pictures. Definitely won’t be staying here again. Also be prepared to be waiting by the elevator for a long time.

Recommend!
Great location across from the beach, pool area was nice with service and a bar and lounge area. Rooms were clean and lobby was nice too, my 7 yr old loved the huge fish tank. staff was very helpful when we had to add another night last minute due to cancelled flight

Consider your stay at Alohilani Carefully
Please be careful if considering booking stay at Alohilani. The hotel lobby is the nicest part of the hotel - the elevators, rooms and resort require a substantial update. The hotel also applies fees without notifying. Make sure to review your folio when checking out and get in writing anything that has been agreed. Our family noted various fees applied (over $500 in fees during a 4 night stay, and we are not talking about resort fees). The hotel removed the fees as they agreed they were made in error on the day of checkout. Fees were ultimately charged separately on our credit card and hotel refuses to refund these weeks later. The credit card company has not been of much help. BEWARE
- AdvisoryIn support of the Highgate Charitable Foundation (HCF), the hotel will be applying a one-time $5.00 fee to all guest folios on the day of arrival (this will be charged on the first night only). All reservations are opted-in unless the guest opts out at registration prior to checkout.
