Encargada del restaurante con pésima actitud
Everything was very good, the attention from the waiters both at dinner and breakfast, the only thing we didn't like was that we asked for information to celebrate the birthday of one of my friends and the lady who was in charge of the restaurant didn't know how to give me information and didn't even know how to give me information. She didn't even understand what I was asking, she just said no and no, until another girl in a brown uniform approached and was able to help me, as it is possible that they have managers in restaurants who are not trained with at least basic English. I don't really know the lady's name but I always saw her at breakfast and lunch.

Lovely small resort with the best staff anywhere
Why You Should Stay at Allegra Playacar: 1. The Staff - We have been traveling together a lot for about 15 years, and the staff at this resort are unbelievably great. They couldn't be friendlier. We rarely waited for a drink, never waited for a seat at either buffet (lobby or beach), and they even had the patience to help us work on our terrible Spanish. I can't say enough about how wonderful they are. I'm not exaggerating when I say that all other resorts should send their staff to Allegra Playacar to learn how to give their guests the best possible vacation. 2. The Beach - Lovely, clean sands, a shallow walk into the water, even for a non-swimmer, and (finally!) enough lounge chairs for the number of guests. We will often split our days between pools and the beach, but it was really great at the beach, so that's where we stayed for the entire week. We were concerned about it being a public beach, but those concerns were completely unfounded. 3. The Food - There was nothing fancy at either buffet, but there was a good variety and it was all high quality and excellently prepared. My friend couldn't stop raving about the chicken at the beach buffet. Having a pizzeria on site was also great and they make their vanilla, strawberry, and coconut (OMG, so good) ice cream on site. The hours for each meal were also excellent, so even when we had a bit of a late night and slept in, we could still get breakfast. We arrived very late the first night, so we missed supper, but there were hot dogs, fruit, veggies, etc. upstairs at the lobby bar that did the trick nicely. We only tried one a la carte and we were pretty underwhelmed, especially when the buffet food was so good. 4. Location - Turn left at the front gate, and you're a 2-minute walk from a lovely market. Grab a cab and turn right at the front gate, and you're minutes from Playa del Carmen. We went to the market twice and it was a great way to whittle away an afternoon. We didn't go into Playa del Carmen, but we heard from other guests that it was a great experience, especially if you're looking for night life. Other Things of Note: The entertainment was quite good, especially the Mexican night that featured dancers in different costumes from different regions. And yeah, they had a Michael Jackson night, which almost always makes me roll my eyes, but Allegra's MJ was quite good. I thought he was lip-synching at first, but nope, he was just that talented. The resort is small, which we loved. The walk from the beach to the front lobby was 10 minutes if you took your time. Considering the resort's location is very urban, the resort itself is pretty jungle-y, which we also loved. The agoutis chirping at each other every morning was awesome, although the howler monkey in the morning was soooo loud! We were in the back of Building 13, next to the jungle courtyard which is apparently where our monkey friend hangs out. We never saw him, but his sounds were unmistakable. One fun highlight of the trip was the iguana chillin' in a lounge chair by the pool, completely oblivious to the people around it. Minor Issues, that weren't bad enough to make us stay away, or were fixed as quickly as can be expected: 1. Our safe wouldn't work when we arrived, but was replaced the next day. 2. Our TV screen was very, very broken, and it was never replaced. We don't generally watch TV on vacation anyway, so this is a very minor issue to us. We did want to check on the US election, but got our coverage on our tablets, which was fine. 3. Having the main buffet and lobby bar located upstairs from the lobby was a bit weird. We commented a few times about how the resort was not utilizing the lobby space very well. 4. The exterior light at our room didn't work and was never fixed. This was also minor because the light between units and our neighbor's lights were all working so we could see our way, and really, we could see well enough on our balcony to enjoy our nightcaps and conversation. 5. We had a coffee maker in the room but had to go hunt down coffee. 6. We left very early on our last day, there was not an exterior light on anywhere around the entire resort, and it was very, very dark. Yes, we had our phones to light the way, but this seems like a safety issue. 7. The only air conditioning anywhere is in your room, the lobby store, and the Oriental a la carte restaurant. I read other people's reviews that complained about this and thought they were being too picky, but it was very hot when we were there, and not being able to get any relief, especially during meals, did become taxing after a few days. Overall, we would recommend Allegra Playacar. It's cozy and friendly and you'll have everything you need to have a lovely vacation.

First Clubs Best Bartenders!
Freddy Mendez, Angel and Andres were amazing bar tenders at the first club. They completely made our entire trip. They were so friendly, caring and thoughtful. They always had a smile on their face. Mira was also very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Would highly recommend staying at first club and I hope you get Freddy, Angel and Andres as your bartenders!

Small and friendly.
Our check in went smoothly, our room was nice but we had no hot water for most of our stay. The staff was friendly, the food was good.

A home away from home!
It’s our 8th time staying at Allegro Playacar and it truly feels like a home away from home. It’s small, quaint and the facilities, food and service is on point. The three guys running the First Club Angel, Andres and Eder are absolutely wonderful and could not be more helpful. They are kind to the adults and children alike, making them kid-friendly drinks all week long! David the Allegro lifeguard helped both of my kids with a jelly fish and wasp sting. He is gentle, knowledgeable and reassuring. He was quick to assess and treat both situations. We were very grateful to have him around all week. Our housekeeper Ricardo would surprise the kids every morning with a new “animal” on the bed. These small touches go a long way. Mayra the manager of the First Club was very helpful and quick to help with any translations needs. Overall, I would highly recommend this resort to families with children. What an amazing place, can’t wait to come back!
