Exceptional!
Everything about this resort is top notch. Every staff member was polite, kind and helpful. A special thanks to Sergio, our concierge in building 9c. Wonderful service with a smile every day! The food was mostly very good. The breakfast buffet at the Market Cafe was extraordinary. I’ve traveled a lot but this was really over the top fantastic. I especially loved the pizzas at the small place near the main pool. We weren’t crazy about Portofino, but that was an exception. The rooms were comfortable. Weird bathroom layout as there’s only a curtain between the bedroom and the jacuzzi tub, and a partial see through into the toilet. But we were a family so what the hell!! The main pool can get a little loud with lots of activities, folks drinking at the swim up bar, etc. Fun if that’s your thing. We preferred the next pool in. All of the pools have little areas - not just a rectangle. The quiet pool was a little too quiet for us. The pool concierges were amazing as were the folks that bring you drinks, food, even ice cream comes!

EXCELLENTE
We’ve just had the most amazing 10nights in Secrets Akumel. Having visited several secrets in both Mexico, Dominican and Jamaica, this hotel exceeds them all and is the one we would definitely return to. Reasons why to come… *Staff:* The service and the staff have been exceptional. The Pool concierge especially Miguel, and the pool bar service were great. Plenty of Sunbeds and Miguel couldn’t do enough to make sure we got a bed in the sun. One day my fiancée had a funny turn and the pool concierge, security and lifeguards were straight on it assisting us and making sure we were okay. Shoutout to Carlos, Gabriel & Gina from the entertainment staff who were great fun. *Beach*: Incredible and stunning, immaculately looked after. We saw loads of sea life from turtles, stingrays, eels, eagle rays - just from snorkelling off the beach itself. We didn’t do the turtle trip as we saw a turtle every day ourselves but if you did want to do the trio many people either went with one of the guys on the beach or through the hotel. We have stayed at Secrets Maroma which had a massively long and wide beach but the beach at Akumel was just pristine, calm shallow blue water and felt like you were on a Carribbean island! *Food*; Best food of all the Secrets resorts we have been too. Plenty on offer for lunch round the pool/beach from ordering off the pool menu, to the themed grills, or the Seaside grill. Ice cream everyday at 2pm was a highlight! We managed to eat in all the restaurants never had to wait more then 30 minutes and usually walked straight in at 8pm. Favourites restaurants: The Bordeaux, Seaside Grill and Oceana - but they were all very good!! Service brilliant in them all. *Rooms*: We booked Preferred, which gave us access to the Greek restaurant in the Market Cafe in the evening which was lovely. The large well equipped room had a jacuzzi bath in the room and on the balcony. house keeping service was fabulous - Alicia and we loved the Le Labo toiletries - a lovely premium touch. To be honest. This would be the only Secrets resorts we would return to but we wouldn’t book preferred here next time as the perks are not as good as some of the other secrets resorts we have been to. *Resort Grounds*: You feel like you are in the jungle walking round, beautiful plants, foliage, water pools it really is stunning and so well maintained. You can get a little lost but once you know your way round you are fine! I would 100% recommend this hotel, the easiest 5* review. we don’t often write them, we felt compelled too as the hotel has truly exceeded our high expectations- we will be returning!

Be Aware of Wedding Parties And Their Thieving Friends
Starting off this is a great hotel worth the 5 star rating with great staff like ruban, lumba, Miguel, Joel, felipe… The entertainment team around the pool are great also and everyone knows your name by day two or three… The service at the pools is fantastic as is the room service… There’s a significant debate over whether the preferred upgrade is worth it it at an extra £1300 for 10 nights which basically includes a small beach area with less service than around the non preferred area, a plunge pool outside on the balcony of your room and a few restaurants that weren’t really memorable enough to rage over… oh and breakfast at the sea view restaurant (that’s the cheapest version too at that price, prices then rise for room locations from block one to 5 with no other service other than better rooms) The biggest concern is the wedding parties that torpedo in from America with a load of their friends for a mad three night booze up (the bride and groom usually stay longer) These are people who can’t necessarily afford to come here but it’s paid for by the father of the bride and the groom is allowed to bring a few of his head banging friends on someone else’s money… (you get the idea about the type of clientele we are talking about right?) My sun glasses got stole from around the whirlpool from literally behind my back one weekend, when I’d put them behind me when it was raining… Yes we should be responsible for own property but you don’t expect your sun glasses getting stolen literally 10 min after you put them down 8 inches away from you, behind your back as others are coming and going from the whirl pool (had their being adequate security cameras the culprit could have answered for the theft, there wasn’t) All of the people in the whirl pool were from one of these wedding parties and too be honest you’d be surprised if they could afford to shop at Walmart let alone, afford a holiday at this place, so be vigilant when you see these types coming in and watch your stuff closely We didn’t let it spoil our time, and other than this the holiday deserves the five star, if we came back again we wouldn’t be paying for the preferred upgrade package…. As it just not that value for money but no regrets Fab holiday!

A Good Place for a Honeymoon
It was our honeymoon and we both loved our stay. We brought our own snorkeling gear and was able to see various fish, sting rays, coral, and sea turtles. All the food and drinks were great. I would recommend this place to friends and family. Fun fun fun

And the Customer Service Award Goes To.....
I challenge you to find friendlier, more accommodating, more genuine staff anywhere. These customer service here is beyond compare. Everyone you come across is eager to help or make sure you are happy. The beach was kept very clean, the pools crystal clear and the rooms comfy with a turndown service that made climbing into bed each night even more special. All around a great place to go.
