Amazing vacation!
Absolutely stunning resort. Staying at Barcelo Palace gives you access to other four neighbouring resorts. The beach is wonderful, the included service is top notch. One star less than five stars is as the room service isn't included even when staying at the palace and you have to pay extra for it. Same for the pirate waterpark extra $s. The resort has a huge problem of lounge chair hoarding at the beach and pools. A la carte restaurants are hard to book but not impossible.

Was fine
It was a fine resort. We had fun. Would I return? Probably not. Check in was exhaustingly slow. Food was a normal Mexico resort. Fresh omelettes in the morning were great. The ala carts were excellent. (French, seafood, Brazilian) Beach was rocky which is great for snorkeling but terrible for playing in the water. we walked the km to the sister hotel (caribe) for their beach. They had excellent sandy shallow Caribbean water and sand. The place needs an extra 1000 beach/pool chairs. Everything is reserved by 830 am. Never enough. I’m annoyed that there was an only 3 bathrooms for the ladies around the whole pool and for the whole beach. Not sufficient. Often waited in line for drinks from the ONE bar at the pool. Extra staff would help that situation. All in all, it was fine. Staff was great. We had fun, ate, swam, drank. But nothing really impressive.

Beautiful grounds, horrendous service
Very nice facility! Large, great pools, food is decent but not great. It’s very hard to get into any restaurant other than the buffet, which was disappointing. Staff in the restaurants and bars were very nice. The front desk and management are inconsiderate, incompetent and uncaring. Check-in was a disaster that took an hour and a half! No apologies. The manager never came out to talk with me, even after I requested it multiple times. We had rooms reserved almost a year in advance and then they changed the price on us AT CHECK-IN and said we needed to pay more than what we reserved the rooms for. Literally refused to give us rooms at 9pm unless we pay them more money for the rooms we pre-booked and pre-paid for. We had 8 rooms and at checkin they required an extra $3k the night of. On top of it all, they didn’t even have the exact rooms available that we booked! The level of incompetency (and possibility dishonesty) was mind blowing. Three other families were also complaining to the front desk during the 1.5 hour debacle. Noticed other families going through some problems of their own with the front desk staff almost every other evening I went through the lobby. Buyer beware! If you do go, make sure to get a chair by the pool or on the beach early. They do not have enough chairs at all for how large the place is.

A good choice near Cancun
Nice set up around the beach. Good food in the restaurants and buffets. Covered walkways for the rain. And a good gym - much better than I was expecting. A very helpful woman, Dalia Ortiz, was working the desk while I worked out. She was very helpful with a couple of items of unfamiliar equipment.
