First trip to Dominican
We stayed at the Gran Vantena the week of 11/17/2024. The resort is nice, clean, the landscaping and beach are well taken care of. The food was good, the staff for the most part are very accommodating and friendly. The bed in our room was very hard, almost like laying on plywood. It was difficult to get a good nights sleep. We were in the 3000 building (quiet section). The room itself was large but sparse, there was no pictures, decorations etc. We unfortunately did not get our fridge filled once during our stay(only had pop and beer the first night), We had asked twice during the week and were informed that the fridge is only filled every other day. (this however was only a mild inconvenience. I feel it is important to note that on the weekends the resort gets very busy, the locals come in to enjoy themselves. The quiet pool gets a bit noisy but again a mild inconvenience. A couple of things that I wish i did know ahead of time: 1) you can not get coffee before 6:30am, there is no 24 hr bar 2) you cannot get a drink before 10am 3) You cannot get anything to eat between 12am and 7 or 7:30 am. Someone said there were snacks until 2am , i did not find that. 4) this one does not deal with resort but worth mentioning for anyone that has not travelled to Dominican before, just so it does not come as surprise. Dominican customs and immigration finger prints everyone coming in. This is not a big deal but did catch some people off guard. There is a lot to do in Puerto Plata, excursions , shopping, restaurants etc. All in all our trip went well.

Very Good Value
Just spent 7 lovely days at the VH Gran Ventana with another couple (ages 53-68). Resort: Easy walking to all venues with lush vegetation everywhere! Beautiful! Consists of 3 buildings (506 rooms); stayed in the Saona bldg. (room 1134) ground floor facing back. Great spot as quiet and you can hear the ocean waves! Rooms: Dated but very clean. No coffee maker and fridge re-filled only every second day. However, can ask front desk for re-fills every day, especially water. Great water pressure and never lacked hot water for showers. Food: Buffet was good. A la Cartes = Octopus the best and had a good surf and turf at the Ocean grill. Fairly easy to make A La Carte reservations in the Beaty adults only bld., across a small parking lot. Quiet pool located in front of this bldg. Beach: Golden soft sand and clear warm water with gentle waves. Very lovely! You can take long walks on the beach. Security guard very good and always helpful in finding/ cleaning lounge chairs. Nice grill on the beach facing ocean. Lunch food at the beach restaurant very repetitive with under cooked hamburgers. Good soup & bread. Nachos and pizza were OK for quick snacks. Pool: Activity team very good with fun activities taking place all day. Water in pool very cold compared to other resorts I've been to. Nightly Entertainment: Cannot comment as did not do any nightly shows. Paid $1,244 incl. carry-on & departure tax with Sunwing ex Mtl

Nice to get a test from everything
We had a very pleasant stay. The hotel has billard, tennis, snorkeling, kayaking and many more options which were all great. We loved the bingo games. Sandy beach with beautiful palms just next to your room. The food was quite amazing, both Dominican and international. One exception: breads - very chemical, whether sweet or savory. Although, the pizza was great! They made the dough themselves and you could taste it. Make sure to try the breakfast shakes as well. The staff and animators very friendly and kind, greetings to Jesus and Wileni 🥰 One idea I didn't like were the paper cups for drinks but I guess it has its reason. Overally, recommended for families more than partying people as the bars weren't open 24/7 and there were quite many kids - animations for them as well.

Best resort !!!!
What an amazing resort! The food and the staff are fantastic and I can’t wait to return. The entertainment staff Henry and Carlos keep the resort laughing and make sure you are enjoying yourself. The staff in the club room Olvi , Santa make the best drinks and give top notch hospitality! Can’t forget Alendrea and Benito at the pool Bar and the housekeeping staff. Despite a few days of rain we had a great vacation thanks to the staff
