Home in beautiful Jamaica at Secrets Wild Orchid
Back home again for our 6th year in a row. We stayed in the Wild Orchid Preferred. We had a great time the food was good the service was great the staff took care of us. The beaches and the snorkeling was great this year nice clean water to see all sorts of fish. We are already talking about booking again next year.

Disappointing and Tired
This place was disappointing and certainly not worthy of the 5 stars it claims. After a 9 hour flight we were greeted with numerous attempts to upsell us everything from spa treatments and overpriced dinners (we were all inclusive) to timeshare, before we’d even completed the checkin process. We’d already paid for a premium room, the most expensive of which (like ours) overlook the sea, so admittedly the views are nice, but they also overlook the main entertainment area. If you’re in one of these rooms and you want any sleep before 11pm forget it (although if you like that sort of thing, there is a good programme of nightly entertainment). The property is tired and the rooms in particular are in dire need of a refresh. The beach is man made and lacks that soft coral sand you find elsewhere in the Caribbean. This one has a lot of stones in it. I found the service to be generally poor, even on occasion quite rude and surly. We received phantom phone calls and on one occasion someone else’s room service in the middle of the night. You should expect better from a big name like Hyatt. The food at the buffet was all too often cold. On the plus side, the food in the main restaurants was of a good quality and consistently so, even if the waiter service was a bit mixed. The ladies who ran the drinks service on the beach tried hard and (literally) delivered with a smile. It’s handy for the airport, too, with a transfer time of just 20 mins.

A lot has changed for the worst go anywhere else.
If you’ve been to this resort before, I’d suggest looking elsewhere. This is not the same secrets wild orchid you have visited in the past. Unfortunately the Hyatt has really run this place into the ground. The resort is understaffed and very poorly maintained, the menus at the restaurants have been condensed to a few items. Our room wasn’t cleaned multiple times during our stay, they are constantly trying to upsell you on things I.E they have set up cabanas all around the main pool areas so nobody on a beach chair can be near the pool, these cabanas and the chairs next to them will cost you $100.00 a day if you’d like to be next to the pool. You want something special for dinner? It will cost you, this is no longer an all inclusive resort it’s a some inclusive resort and definitely no longer a 5 star. Our expectations were extremely high based on our last trip and we were let down day in and day out. I will not go to any resort owned by the Hyatt group after this experience it was simply a massive let down. Again if you’ve been to secrets wild orchid before you will not be going to the same resort. You’ve been warned.

Decent all inclusive
You can tell that the staff are working hard for very little. The membership program hard sale at the beginning of the trip will ruin your experience opt out of it. The food could be better however realizing that quantity over quality is how all-inclusive resorts stay operating. The live music is great, the other entertainment is unorganized and lack luster. The housekeeping is inconsistent.

Not what we were expecting in a resort that claims they are 5 star.
The staff was 50/50. Too many acted like they couldn’t care less to listen or help you. Many acted like you were bothering them or were busy on their phone or chatting with other staff. There were a few great people. Althea-waitress on the beach, Amanda-cooking eggs in the buffet, Actor Boy(on name tag) was the beach activity person and took our feedback and wrote all we said down name might be Darin?, and there was a woman that talked to us when we went to the Asian restaurant but don’t remember her name. They were are empathetic and nice to talk to. Towels were a recurring issue. We either were missing towels or didn’t have any in our room at random times- after they cleaned and after turn down service. We saw our housekeeper and asked for an extra towel so my wife had one for her hair. We never got one. We would come back from the beach to shower and get ready for dinner and there were no towels or only one towel and no hand towels and or no wash cloths. Later we called down to the desk and they said sure they would send up some. Never said sorry. No towels came. Another time we had no towels and I went down to the desk to ask for some. The woman at the desk (I don’t have her name) picked up her phone in the middle of me telling her the issue with the towels to ask housekeeping for towels. That was rude. We eventually got towels. The next day we came back from the beach for dinner there were no towels at all. There was one towel we had that wasn’t used and fold on the shelf next to the tub. That was gone too. Aggravated I went to the desk again. I told my issues to the woman down there and the same woman that I talked to the evening before came over and asked if I spoke to someone already. Maybe is she actually took a moment to listen me she’d have remembered that I tried the day before. I had enough. I called Delta and was able to get a flight home a day early. So my wife and I left our vacation early because we had just had it and didn’t want to stay any longer. I told the woman at the desk this and let them know we were checking out early. Nobody seemed bothered by it. They did not care. They did day they would have to check policy about getting the last time refunded. That didn’t matter to me at that point and was ready to fight about it later and when I got home. The room was not cleaned well. Hair on the toilet and a bug on the floor the whole time we were there. That fact that nobody had a manager come out when I guest is leaving early was disappointing. Checking out the next day went ok. I also explained the woman checking us out why and she was the one the got me towels the evening before. I also let her know the woman the night before that asked if I had talked to someone about our issues was the same women I tried to talk to. She raised her eyebrows brows and seemed shocked by that. But, overall very little was said to me other than sorry. Never once did desk staff show concern a guest was leaving the resort early because they had enough. This is not a 5 star resort. I also shouldn’t have to pay extra for butler service to have a 5 star experience. We were hoping for so much more than what we got. I needed this vacation to be easy. I have a stressful job and haven’t taken vacation in a year. I wanted to not have to deal with nonsense but that didn’t happen. I was always polite but I didn’t want to be. It was really aggravating and especially when nobody at Secrets cared. You need to do better before you can claim to be the type of resort you say you are.
