What We Love
- The resort sits on a gorgeous stretch of beach. Since the waves are calm, it's an easy area to swim in.
Things to Know
- The resort is a fantastic home base for exploring the natural wonders of Puerto Rico, like the nearby El Yunque tropical rainforest and Fajardo's bioluminescent bay.
The Ocean Course, designed by Tom and George Fazio, is sheer panorama. Aptly named for its spectacular ocean views, this course features multiple bunkers, elevated greens and four sets of tees. A favorite among guests, mostly for the iguanas and the signature 16th hole.
While the Fazios took a liking to the trade winds, Greg Norman's first-ever Caribbean design, the River Course, is 6,945 yards of rolling green along the Mamayes River. Norman took care to preserve the native foliage of this challenging course, embraced by mountain vistas and seashores, and to allow the natural terrain to determine the placement of all holes. Rumor has it that every hole is a signature hole here.
Non-golfers aren't forgotten, thanks to one mile of gorgeous beach with lots of fun activities, two stunning pools, one for adults and one for families and a 20,000-sq. ft. sun deck. And if your putter fails you, perhaps Lady Luck is waiting to smile on you at the casino. Or maybe a session at the spa will help you unwind over that last drive?
As nighttime approaches, stash the clubs and return to the resort to observe the legendary bioluminescent bay of nearby Fajardo, where microorganisms create a mysterious blue-green light that illuminates the calm waters. After a dinner of sushi and Thai
delights at Shimas Sushi Bar, retreat to 400-sq. ft., Ocean View Room. Snuggle into the king-sized bed to dream of the birdies or a hole in one!

Do not go during hurricane season!!!
Beautiful property, incredible weight staff. Rooms not cleaned appropriately, beds made in towels given. Since we were sequestered in the hotel, the hurricane was raging outside, the administration of the hotel did nothing for the guests. Casino closed per regulations, some of the restaurants were also closed. Did not have a cocktail hour, any sort of nicety for the guests that stayed there. Would suggest they look at the guests that were there, and have at least try to do something nice since we had to stay in the hotel the entire time.

Excellent! Awesome staff!!!
Excellent!!! Wonderful staff! Spacious and spotlessly clean rooms. In our case we had a beautiful ocean view. Again, I can’t say enough about the hotel staff, they were so accommodating and friendly. I would certainly recommend this hotel, and will definitely return. Note the hotel is on the northeast coast of Puerto Rico, just a short 35 min drive from San Juan. The hotel is also just a few minutes drive to El Yunque National Rain Forest.

Great Resort
Wyndham has done it again with an outstanding resort. I have been to five Wyndham resorts, each one better than the last. I can’t wait to return with other members of my family. Margaritaville with its five o’clock somewhere bar was an especial treat.

We thankfully chose the best resort in Puerto Rico!
Wyndham's Grand Rio Mar was most enjoyable from the check-in to the check-out. Our request for upper level room with great view was honored. Grounds were impeccable, pools were awesome, beach was beautiful and the staff was helpful and friendly. Concierge service was great at steering towards points of interest as well as local eateries, choices that would have left us lost otherwise. The only criticism I would assert about our stay is that the only news and commentary available on the TV was from liberal/progressive sources. I believe that a political counterpoint should be offered. All political views or none please! There are many choices at this resort for on-site dining. The food was tasty at all of them, albeit expensive. Our favorite was Roots Coastal Kitchen, the food was great and our server, Juan, was fabulous! Cocktails in the evening at the outdoor bar, 5 O'Clock Somewhere, were a surprise. Plenty potent (unlike many other establishments we have patronized) and were a great value, especially when we purchased the refillable Margaritaville blender glass. We enjoyed evening walks on the lighted walkways throughout the grounds while being serenaded by the Coqui frogs. Puerto Rico was a pleasant adventure and only a 4 hour flight from New Jersey and this resort was equally pleasant. Thank you Wyndham "We shall return!"

Bad check out 🙃
The only problem was when we checked out of the hotel. It was an endless queue and it was very annoying to wait so long. The staff, rooms and facilities of the hotel are incredible! We will be back soon ! Thanks for being a good experience at all ! The view was amazing 🤩
