  A Good Stay, But Not Quite Worth the Hype

  We recently stayed at Grand Velas, a resort often billed as one of the top high-end all-inclusives. While the overall experience was pleasant, it didn’t quite live up to the hype—especially considering the premium price point. The property is beautiful and well-kept, and the rooms were spacious and appeared recently renovated. The restaurants served good food, though nothing particularly memorable. The buffet was underwhelming, but to be fair, most buffets are. We were initially concerned about the advertised restaurant dress code, but there was no enforcement during our stay, so it’s not something to worry about. The pool area was nice, but like many resorts, finding a chair required being up very early. By 7:30 a.m., most loungers were already claimed. Staff occasionally walked through, but there was no real enforcement of the posted rules, which was frustrating. It’s surprising more resorts haven’t implemented a booking system to manage this. The staff was friendly and hardworking, as is typical of most quality resorts. Overall, it was a good stay—but given the high cost, Grand Velas feels more on par with other five-star resorts rather than standing out from the crowd.

  Amazing Resort and Staff - Family Trip

  My wife, three kids (15,13,9) spent a week at this stunning resort. The resort is truly beautiful from every angle (views are incredible from rooms to pool/beach from beach to hotel, miles of sandy beach in both directions, beautiful restaurants, stunning reception area and walkways etc) and the architecture and the flowers/gardening are truly beautiful. The beach is fantastic - soft sand, no rocks as far into the ocean as one could stand and fun but not scary waves for kids to play in. No issues finding seating/cabanas by the pool or beach. The beach has a lot of life to it with other resorts, locals and vendors which we enjoyed very much. The staff are all amazing. Mario was our concierge and always very helpful, Carlos who led the beach activities was great (kayaks, boogie board, paddle board, surfing and volleyball). Restaurant staff incredibly attentive and friendly. Cleaning of rooms was perfect. Raymondo the pool concierge was extremely helpful. The servers on the beach were always asking if they could bring something to eat or drink. Servers in Azul were great and tried helping with our Spanish. One example of the great staff and how quickly they reacted to a scary incident (purely accidental), we had a paddle board hit my youngest in the head in the waves that resulted in immediate significant swelling and within minutes Raymundo and the team had the on site doctor looking after my son. Thank you! Food everywhere was very good. Buffet was great. Italian was too. We thought Mexican and Asian was ok and did not visit the French restaurant. We visited Sayulitas, Bucerias and Puerto Vallarta. All good fun. Our rooms did have a bit of musty smell but we liked having the balcony doors open in any event. The suites with two bathrooms, two queen beds and large living room could easily fit a family of five but resort only allows four to a room which makes this resort a more costly option for a family of five by requiring two rooms. All in all A+++ resort and staff. Well done!!! (PS. We were sceptical that all the reviews are 5* but now understand why.)

  Such a wonderful place. Excellent service, food, spaces, and attention to detail.

  Just a wonderful place. We were met with cold drinks and welcome massages after a particularly stressful travel experience, and our past concierge, Luis, personally met us in the lobby to welcome us. We felt like honored guests. The restaurants, service, and luxury are fantastic. We have stayed many times at GV, and this particular time we had planned to stay elsewhere (mistake!) and the other hotel did not honor our paid and confirmed reservation (do not EVER stay at Garza Blanca!), so I called Grand Velas. They went out of their way to find us a room for that same night, even though they were very close to capacity, and it was 5pm when I called. Thank you, Grand Velas for saving, and significantly improving, our family vacation. Special thanks to the wonderful sommelier, Francisco, the pool captain, Jose, and the pool concierges, Raymundo and Eduardo. All the pool servers are wonderful, but if you can, sit in Saturnino or Francisco's section. They kept me in cold drinks all day, and were so, so attentive. I felt spoiled. Luis is a fabulous concierge. So helpful and personable. Love, love, love Grand Velas.

  Grand Velas grand food night one!

  I am here for a week and giving you my daily food review. Ate at Frida tonight. Fantastic! Carlos had it all under control. Had the grilled cauliflower. Really good. But the big winner was the filet and chorizo tacos. May have to say the best tacos ever. The filet was perfectly cooked with the combination of the tasty sausage and broiled cheese. It’s hard to beat. Asked Carlos for tequila that complimented the food and it was a great meal. Great night one!!!

  Quiet luxury

  The service was amazing! We did not have to lift a finger all week while we enjoyed delicious food and drinks. The landscaping and scenery was absolutely prestine and well kept. Gilberto with the entertainment team made our trip fun and engaging!
