Never Again
I just stayed there for the long weekend and I am so disappointed. First, the food was horrible. We have stayed at Riu before in other locations and the food was very good, so this was surprising. The hot food was almost inedible at every restaurant. Second, we had no hot water for most of the weekend. For one full day, we had no water at all. When we asked about it at reception, the mad was very rude. Lastly, the soap and shampoo containers were empty, the towels were stained, and the room did not feel clean. To top if off, we witnessed 5 people drown because there are no lifeguards at the beach to warn guests of the high tides and to quickly save drowning guests. This was incredibly upsetting. We will not be staying at a Riu again.

Terrible Experience at Riu Republica – Not Worth 5 Stars
If you're looking for a place to relax and enjoy, this is not the hotel for you. Riu Republica is better suited for those who just want to drink terrible alcohol (which smells like ethanol) and don’t mind outdated accommodations. The photos online are misleading—this hotel is very old, and all the rooms are in desperate need of renovation. It’s the worst place I’ve ever visited for relaxation. This hotel is nowhere near a 5-star standard. One of the worst aspects is the blatant scamming by the staff. They give you a horrible room upon arrival and then demand extra money to "upgrade" you to the room you originally paid for. This kind of behavior is unacceptable, and the staff are unfriendly and unprofessional. I’ve never experienced such poor service in my life. While the hotel claims to be part of the "Green & Fair Hotels" initiative, this seems to be a façade. They don’t wash the bedding properly, but instead, use such harsh chemicals for cleaning that it irritates all mucous membranes. Asthmatics or anyone with sensitivities should avoid this place entirely. The only positive aspect is the beach, which is beautiful, but even that is ruined by the overwhelming number of vendors. There are more sellers than actual guests, making it impossible to relax. The food is average, comparable to what you’d expect at a 2- or 3-star hotel, certainly not a 5-star dining experience. Avoid Riu Republica if you value good service, cleanliness, and genuine hospitality.

Never again! Pick a different resort!
First day here and I would never come again. We selected an ocean view room didn’t know that it was not going to allow us to get any sleep because the disco runs late into the night. Also air conditioning is horrible. Definitely calm going down to the front desk tomorrow asking for a new room even though we paid extra for this view. It is absolutely not worth the extra money unless you’re into staying up all night partying. Rooms are so hot no matter how low you turn the AC down. Resort is not five star at all three star at best. A friend picked this place with our group so we went because of that. 10 out of 10 don’t recommend going to make the best of it the next seven days..

Excellent
I have stayed at several RIU resorts primarily in Mexico. The service is outstanding! The resort was very clean. This was my first time to the Dominican Republic. I would highly recommend staying at the RIU. I will never stay at another all inclusive resort but the RIU.
