You can’t go to Negril without visiting the most popular restaurant in Negril. In fact, this might be the most popular restaurant in Jamaica! Inspired by the bar in the movie Casablanca, it’s the place locals and visitors flock to, to take in the evening’s sunset, grab a cocktail and watch the cliff jumpers. If you haven't seen anyone jump off the cliffs, make sure you stick around long enough to see it happen. Hanging on the back deck at Rick's is the place to see all the action. And, you can always find fresh fish on the menu and any drink you can challenge the bartender to concoct. Mix all this with the funk of reggae music playing in the background, and you got yourself one happening spot to hang out while you're in Negril.

Mayfield Falls is the perfect spot for nature lovers! If you've been to other waterfall parks, then you know how gorgeous they are. And if you never have seen one, then Mayfield Falls is just the place for you.

This 5-acre span hosts the perfect environment for camping, hiking and picnicking, and that’s just the beginning of what you can discover here. Get close to the natural landscape by cave diving or relaxing in one of the natural Jacuzzis. You can also learn some of the local traditions by taking folk dancing classes or learn how to prepare some of the exotic local cuisine. It doesn't have that overcrowded tourist feel to it, either. And on the drive there, you'll pass through Jamaican villages and lush scenery. Make sure you bring water shoes because you'll want to splash around in the cool waters!

Negril is the best place to go in Jamaica if you're an avid scuba diver or snorkeler. In fact, 45 diving and snorkeling sites are available at the Negril Marine Park. You can check out the coral-encrusted formations at the reef site "The Arches". If you want to see the docile nurse sharks, then "Shark Reef" is the place for you. You can find sea turtles, barracuda and dolphins among the colorful corals in "The Throne Room". And, if you're a serious diver, then you have to check out "Deep Plane." The depth of this daring site is 90 feet. The corals, the vibrant marine life and the variety of sea life you'll see are spectacular.

Language: English is the official language; however, Jamaicans speak in their own Patois, a Jamaican vernacular.

Currency: The official currency is the Jamaican dollar. Some places will take the US Dollar.

Electricity: Jamaica does not have a standard electrical outlet. You will either have 110v or 220v, so packing an adapter is a good idea.

Passport/Immigration: All U.S. citizens must have a valid passport when traveling to and from Negril.

Drinking Water: The water in Jamaica is, for the most part, safe to drink. Check to make sure it is desalinated and if it's not, then stick to bottled water.

Go all out with a dune buggy or ATV tour, a zip line canopy circuit and a river experience atop an inner tube or kayak. This open-air, cliffside restaurant offers local flavor, live music and its own house cocktail that is worth trying. A mixture of pineapple juice, ginger beer and white rum, you’ll love trying this flavorful cocktail. Not only does Pushcart have authentic Jamaican food, but the views are wonderful! Plan to get there before sunset so you can enjoy the gorgeous Negril sunset with a delicious cocktail in hand.

Take a taxi, but make sure you get one licensed by the government. Car Rentals are not recommended.

There are two major international airports on the island: Kingston's Norman Manley Airport (KIN) in the southeast and Sangster Airport in Montego Bay (MBJ) on the northwest coast. Montego Bay is the most convenient airport to the tourist destinations of Montego Bay, Negril and Ocho Rios.

If you want to get away from some of the typical tourist adventures, then check out the Blue Hole. About 40 minutes from Negril, you'll discover a mineral spring swimming pool that is a hidden oasis. For a small fee, you can swim in the spring, enjoy food and drinks and relax on the ground. And, if you're feeling really adventurous, you can jump 22 feet into the pool. Don't worry - a ladder is provided if you'd rather climb down at your own pace!

Miss Sonia's is a "must" stop while in Negril. Fresh, local cuisine is served and made by the lady herself, Miss Sonia. You'll have to try one of her patties. Filled with tasty Jamaican flavors, you won't be disappointed. And, the best part is chatting with Miss Sonia herself. She is friendly, warm and full of great stories.

Complete immigration form while in flight. Make sure to fill out your immigration form, including departure information before entering immigration. Otherwise you’ll lose your place in line. Getting through immigration in Jamaica will be time consuming. Keep your travel documents together: immigration form, customs declaration form, valid passport and return tickets. Once you clear immigration, move to customs. Be prepared for your luggage to be checked. You’ll move to one of three lines: nothing to declare, passengers with items to declare, or special passengers, wheelchair passengers and unaccompanied minors. Items for declaration should be accompanied by an invoice and should be listed on the Customs Declaration Form. Members of the same family may use one form (i.e. mother, father and their children under 18 years old). Passengers over 18 years are required to complete their own Declaration Forms. Passengers are required to present their passport, along with the Customs Declaration Form and relevant receipts, for processing. Payment of duties, if any, may be made using cash, VISA or MasterCard credit cards or certified cheques as well as Multi-Link (debit and credit) cards.
