    Teeing Off in Golfer's Paradise

Two words: Punta Espada. This stellar, award-winning Jack Nicklaus Signature course opened in 2006 with 18 holes - a total 7,382 yards. Eight holes play along and over the sea. 15 holes of its 18 have spectacular ocean views. GolfWeek Magazine awarded it #1 Course in the Caribbean and Mexico in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Even better, it was named “Traveler Choice 2013” – the #1 attraction that travelers recommend when visiting Punta Cana. It’s tee time, beach lovers.

Tips & Transportation

Spend the Day on Saona Island

Think of this as a getaway from the getaway. A meta vacay. Seriously, this is one island retreat that is so gorgeous that your soul will sing: crazy white sand, turquoise water and shady palms that all surround a natural swimming pool in the middle of the ocean. Look for the ginormous starfish, but don’t touch.

  • ""

    Explore Ecological Eyes Eco Park

If you want to go eco, this is your stop. There’s over 6 sq. kilometers of protected coastal and inland habitat, and nearly 100 birds (27 of which are indigenous to the Dominican Republic) call it home. Take a three-hour guided tour through a luscious 30-hectare portion of the reserve with 11 freshwater lagoons all fed by an underground river that flows into the ocean.

  • ""

    Dive Into Dolphin Island

This is a 100%, bona fide bucket list activity. Grab the fam (groups up to 12!) and swim with these friendly finned mammals. Melt over the magic of a dolphin kiss and the thrill of a dolphin hug. For more fun, hang on and enjoy a Dorsal Tow, or get your feet wet with a foot push or belly ride. Dive in!

  • ""

    Catch a Game

Do the names Adrian Beltre, David Ortiz or Luis Pujols ring any bells? Thought so. Right here in the glorious Dominican Republic is where you can watch some baseball games – maybe even catch some of their up-and-coming players. Though the island boasts a big Winter League, check with your resort to find out when and where you can find a game.

  • ""

    Airport

Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) is located on the east coast of the Dominican Republic, centrally located to the many beachfront resorts in Punta Cana. Each visitor entering the Dominican Republic will be required to purchase a Tourist Card upon arriving. It is recommended for guests to purchase their card prior to arrival to skip the lines at the airport.

  • ""

    Immigration & Customs

At the immigration desk, you’ll have to purchase a 30-day tourist card instead of a visa. The DR requires a departure tax that’s usually included in your airfare. Your flight attendant will typically give you customs paper work to fill out on the plane. After you’ve been through the immigration desk at the airport and you’ve picked up your luggage from baggage claim, you’ll go to customs, where officers will possibly check your bags.

    Getting to Your Hotel

CheapCaribbean.com has partnered with Amstar as our premier transportation company in Cap Cana. They’ll provide you with safe, comfortable and professional transportation, from the airport to your hotel and back. They’ll also provide transportation to any excursions booked through our site that you’d like to take while you’re in your destination.

It’s easy to find your Amstar team when you arrive at the airport. They’ll be standing in the ground transportation waiting area, holding a CheapCaribbean welcome sign. They wear floral shirts. All drivers are fluent in English, friendly and knowledgeable about the culture, history and things to do while you’re there. By the end of your ride, you’ll have made a new friend. Vehicles are all clean, modern and reliable.

Amstar is also the official transportation rep for CheapCaribbean.com excursions when you book vacations to Cap Cana on our site. The majority of our partner hotels have an Amstar desk in or near the lobby so they’re easy to find, should you need them. For this reason, we suggest that our guests do not rent cars while in the Caribbean or Mexico as traffic laws and road quality and street signs are not the same as they are in the US.
