Cayman Islands Overview

  • ""

    Perfect Piece of Paradise

It’s one of the prettiest beaches in Grand Cayman and home to many of the island’s resorts, restaurants and shops. Even though it's the hub of island activity, Seven Mile Beach never seems overly crowded. The water is so calm on the western side of the island that it looks like glass. It's the perfect ocean spot if you have small children because you and the kids can swim, play and snorkel very easily! The waters are so clear, and the corals are distinct. Plus, Seven Mile Beach is located in the capital city George Town, where you can find plenty of restaurants to try out or souvenirs to take home. After you spend some time lounging by the beach, you can stroll along the shores and discover new beachside restaurants, as well as some local island shopping.

  • ""

    Thrill Seekers

When you’re ready for a little rugged adventure, check out Cayman Brac, or “Brac” as the locals call it. Located just a short distance from Grand Cayman, the towering limestone bluff attracts vacationers seeking to hike, rock climb or scuba dive. Definitely for the more daring, but if it's something you'd like to try, then there is no better place than in this Caribbean paradise. If you want to visit Brac, but don't exactly want to repel off mountains, then check out the caves on the island. The caves are full of beautiful stalagmites and stalactites, with a few friendly bats hanging around. There are several great caves to choose from, but the Great Cave is a popular spot. You'll also find several local restaurants and shops to discover when you spend your day here.

    Plunge Into The Sea

Little Cayman is one of the best places to scuba dive in the world. Bloody Bay Wall plunges 18 to 6,000 feet with a series of equally dramatic drop offs that will impress the most experienced diver. If you're a diver, then exploring the stunning marine life will be a world class experience! You can also find some secluded beaches without the crowds of people, like Point of Sand on the eastern tip. The shopping is light, but you can stop off at Village Square if you need some last minute necessities. The laid-back charm in Little Cayman offers some local restaurants, beach bars and warm, welcoming locals to help you see all that you need to see on the island.

  • ""

    Shopping Local

The Cayman’s version of a farmer’s market comes alive Saturday mornings at “The Grounds.” The farmer's market is where you’ll find fresh fruits, vegetables and a variety of Cayman cuisine to sample, and the market is just 10 miles from George Town. Everything is 100% locally grown, so you'll get to sample some of the most authentic and possibly the best Caribbean cuisine on the island. The lively market also has several vendors with handmade crafts, sea-salt products and unique souvenirs. You'll also find activities for the kids and live music, and it's one of the best places to chat with locals on the island.

  • ""

    Aye, Aye Matey!

In November the island celebrates pirates with a week of activities. The annual Pirates Week Festival is 11 days of events. To start off the first day of festivities, you can dress up as your favorite pirate for the parade, chase pirates through Bodden Town, the West Bay, and even Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. The mock pirate invasion will for sure get you fired up for all the fun during the week! You can also enjoy activities like boat races, sea swims, turtle releases and a 5k run. There are some many fun competitions, yummy local cuisine, street dances and more. It's a great time to visit Cayman and see the community bond together. Plus, the island-wide revelry is fun for the whole family!

  • ""

    Stingrays in the City

Plan to spend a day in the North Sound touring this offshore site, Stingray City. Spending a day at Stingray City lets you see stingrays up close and personal. It's a popular tour, but playing with the stingrays as they float and glide around is an experience you won't want to miss. Stingray City is definitely a place to take the whole family to visit. Everyone will love snorkeling in the shallow waters and seeing the brightly colored fish, gardens of coral and the stingrays ready to mingle. It's easy to find a tour out to the sand bar, and if you can, keep the group small so you get to see and interact with even more stingrays!

  • ""

    Servin' Up Rum

Your trip to the island must include a fruity concoction made with the island’s signature alcohol, rum. The drink of choice by most islanders and served in most restaurants is rum punch. It won't be hard to find a beach bar or two that is servin' up rum. Touring Seven Fathoms Rum distillery in George Town will let you see behind-the-scenes how their top-notch rum is created. It's the first place on the island that is manufacturing its own rum. The distillery has a unique approach in that they age their rum underwater. The movement of the waves adds to its maturation, but that's what you'll get to learn on the tour! Plus, you'll get to sample the rum at the end of the tour.

  • ""

    Rock Out at the Reef

A trip to Grand Cayman may not be complete without a stop in at the Reef. This tourist favorite features the island’s infamous singer, “Barefoot Man.” The band entertains audiences with island tunes by mixing a little reggae, calypso and soca. Barefoot Man’s infectious humor also keeps audiences coming back night after night. You and your friends will be swaying to the beats as you dance the night away, and you can also catch other singing favorites at the Reef like JR Douglas and Vicki Wheaton. You can find these entertainers inside the Reef Resort located on the east end of the island.
