Disappointing Stay at a Subpar Westin

I can’t understand the glowing reviews for this place—are they even real? At first glance, the resort seems impressive, with expansive grounds and a pleasant atmosphere. The staff are undeniably friendly and eager to please, albeit in a somewhat robotic, overly rehearsed way. However, the resort primarily caters to large families and lacks any semblance of a true luxury experience. This is definitely not a destination for discerning adults or couples seeking a refined getaway. Thankfully, we stayed in the Adults-Only Club section, which was the only saving grace. Without that, I would have checked out on day one. Unfortunately, venturing out to dine in the main resort restaurants felt like crashing a noisy children’s party. The food across all venues was consistently terrible. It’s clear that being all-inclusive has led to a “quantity over quality” approach. At the seafood restaurant, we endured the worst sushi we’ve ever had—dry, stale rice with subpar seafood. To make matters worse, my wife ended up with food poisoning. Hoping to make amends, the Club manager offered us a special lobster dinner at the steakhouse. The result? Bland, overcooked, rubbery lobster drowned in ground pepper—a truly inedible experience. The Italian restaurant wasn’t any better, serving pasta floating in watery sauce that resembled soup. Even the Club pool, supposedly exclusive, failed to impress. Drinks were served in paper cups, and low-quality food came in takeaway boxes, contributing to the resort’s overall cheap feel. Evening entertainment was laughably bad, reminiscent of a low-budget holiday camp. As for the accommodations, the Club rooms were outdated and lacked comfort. The bed linens were rough, cheap, and—most disturbingly—always felt damp. Sliding into the damp sheets each night was far from pleasant. If your priority is keeping kids entertained with unlimited mediocre food, this resort might work for you. But if you’re looking for quality, comfort, or any semblance of luxury, think very carefully before booking your stay.

    We are spoiled and grateful

The staff is incredible. The food is amazing. The convenience of not having to worry about anything, including transportation, has completely spoiled us. Excursions were also extremely easy to book thanks for Erik G (blue shirt guy). Did not matter if they were booked last minute either. If we ever find ourselves back in Costa Rica, it’s no question where we will be staying.

Costa Rica all inclusive very fun and happy

We went here for our anniversary and had a great time. The resort is beautiful and well kept. The restaurants all were very good especially for an all inclusive. The service was excellent and very friendly. Loved the sports bar, watching a game on a big screen outside is a must for a sports fan. The only area that fell short were the concierges in the Westin club. I gave a very nice tip on the first day and barely saw him again. I highly recommend for excursions to speak with Eric g you can find him on google and Facebook or on the beach in a blue shirt. He set up transportation and excursions, was fantastic on follow-ups. We will definitely be back. If you are without kids if able spend extra for the Westin club well worth it

    Amazing Vacation

My husband and I just returned from our stay at the Westin and we are already looking forward to going back! The grounds are beautiful! The rooms are spacious and very well kept up/cleaned. They have a large, lovely pool and BEAUTIFUL beachfront to relax at. The food and restaurants were delicious and offered a great variety. All the staff is helpful, knowledgeable, and very friendly. Lots of animals to observe on the grounds as well! A few vendors available right on the beach for shopping as well as massages! We very much enjoyed and highly recommend the pink tent! We met Erik G. on the beach and he hooked us up with some INCREDIBLE, one of a kind adventures! He is able to tailor the tours to your specific interests. Felt VERY safe booking with him! Great communication and reliable service! We very much recommend looking for him at the entrance to the beach (wearing a blue google Tshirt/hat) to book your memorable Costa Rican Adventures!

    A nice stay in Guanacaste

My wife and I had a wonderful time staying here. We stayed in the Westin Club and our room was great. This gives you access to premium alcohol, including a self-service bar at the clubhouse, a happy hour with snack and drink, and breakfast at Faisanella restaurant. All in all, worth the upgrade. Our 2 concierges for tower 2 were always available to help with booking reservations for food or transportation. That said, I recommend downloading the resort’s app and making restaurant reservations before you arrive - I believe they open each Friday afternoon for the following seven days. The food is the one thing that keeps me from giving a 5 star rating. Some meals we had were great, but overall the quality was inconsistent and at times lacking. Same for the cocktails at the restaurants. We really liked everything at Manglar, Bamboo, and Spirula. We found the other dinner restaurants not quite as good. The service at the restaurants was also somewhat inconsistent and could be better. Same for the Mitra Market buffet - some items were pretty good, others less so, and same for service. The grounds and property are beautiful and well maintained, as was our room. Both pools are nice and offer a mix of sun and shade. We spent more of our time at the Westin Club pool as it was a bit quieter and closer to our room. This resort sits right on the beach of Playa Conchal, but does not have dedicated beach cabanas or provide food/drink service on the beach. They do, however, provide lounge chairs you can check out right on the beach, and it’s not far to the nearest bar if you want to grab a drink. The beach is beautiful and I would highly recommend spending at least one sunset there. The gym had a decent selection of free weights, machines, and cardio equipment - treadmills, ellipticals, and cycling bikes. The gym has A/C but was still a bit warmer than ideal for working out. Would love to see it a bit cooler in there. We felt the location was great. The surrounding area was safe and you can definitely go for a walk, run, hike, or bike ride. There’s a few restaurants in Brasilito you could walk to if you really wanted, but also you can taxi or Uber. I saw some reviews complaining about long rides to the excursions in the mountains & rain forest, and while this is true (think 1.5-2 hrs each way depending on where you’re going), it’s going to be the same for any of the resorts and hotels along the pacific coast in Guanacaste. This did not bother us as the transportation we arranged both via tour companies and through Westin was great. Overall, would recommend and would stay again, though the one thing that might lead me elsewhere would be to book a non-all inclusive in hopes of paying for better food.
