Extraordinary Act of Generosity and Service!
This is a story about a Marriott Hotel employee who went way beyond the call of duty on behalf of a Marriott Bonvoy customer who was not even staying at the Marriott property. On November 14, my son purchased some beverages at a store down the street from the Grand Cayman Marriott Resort. On his way back to our condo unit, my son lost his wallet. We assumed the wallet was either stolen or permanently lost. Two days later, I received a voice mail message upon arriving in Miami. Tashuana Green, who works in the Loss Prevention Department at the Grand Cayman Marriott Resort reported that she had my son's wallet. When I called Tashuana, she informed me that someone had found my son's wallet and placed it on a wall near the Marriott Resort. Someone else delivered the wallet to the Loss Prevention office. Tashuana, in turn, went to extraordinary efforts to track down my son. She did not have access to either his phone number or email. After some sleuthing, she figured out my son's relationship to me. Since I am a Bonvoy member, she was able to track me down. This is only the beginning of the story. My son had already returned to the United States. My wife and I were in Florida awaiting our flight back to the west coast. Meanwhile, my daughter was at the Grand Cayman airport awaiting her flight. Tashuana took the wallet and made a dash to the airport and delivered my son's wallet to my daughter with minutes to spare before her departure. If this incredible act of generosity is indicative of the level of customer service you can expect at the Grand Cayman Marriott Resort, you will be in for a great treat. Meanwhile, I hope that the CEO of Marriott reads this tribute and recognizes Tashuana for her extraordinary act; it certainly cemented my loyalty to Marriott.

A Good Island Hotel (For Business)
Fourth time staying at this hotel and it remains a good choice on Grand Cayman. I opted to stay in an ocean view king bedroom, one of the rooms which had recently been refurbished. After being allocated a room on the top floor during my first night I was awoken by the putrid smell of drains emanating from the bathroom. I had to call reception in the middle of the night who moved me to a non-ocean view room on the same floor after acknowledging the strong odour. I was a little disappointed that I was still charged for the first nights stay in an ocean view room, even though I suffered a broken first night’s sleep and didn’t spend the night in an ocean view room. Reception were only prepared to offer a discount of the resort fee for my first night. On my second day I was allocated an ocean view king bedroom on the 4th Floor (actually immediately below my initially allocated room). This room was clean, comfortable and odour free! Nadine and Magdalia from housekeeping did an excellent job of cleaning and servicing my room throughout my stay - thank you! Karl was a quiet gentleman who constantly cleaned and tidied public areas of the hotel - such a hardworking and polite guy. With a couple of Atlantic storms affecting Grand Cayman before and during my stay the swimming pool, hot tub and Vista Bar and Restaurant were withdrawn from service. Indeed, parts of the beach terrace had actually collapsed as a result of a recent tropical storm! Food and beverage services and facilities at the resort are generally excellent. Jev on reception did his best to fix the issues I experienced with my first room.

Mr Disappointed
Everyone was very nice. We enjoyed some of the daily hotel activities. Property was worn and dated. As you pass through the lobby, it promises a grand experience but after passing through, it's all downhill from there. Don't make your decision to stay here based on photos provided by Marriott online. Property looks nothing like the photos. Common areas are worn and unmaintained. Pool area was pretty tired looking. Again, staff at the pool was nice and friendly though. There's no beach all, no sand entry, nothing. Marriott pictures are old and show something (sand & beach) that hasn't existed for years and years there. Seawall is crumbling into the ocean. Original steps to the ocean have fallen apart and are blocked off with boards. There are wooden steps that go into the ocean and you can tell they've been there a while too (moss, worn paint, etc.). Management apologized at check-in and claimed that the property was in poor condition due to the "Florida Hurricane". Interesting, which one was that... LOL This obviously was an excuse they've been told to use due the condition of the property. I was actually on the island for both "Florida Hurricanes" and the impact to Grand Cayman was minimal, not what they were stating. I was glad there was a gym however the music in the gym was WAY too loud. I could hear the piped in music over my headphones every day. I asked to have it lowered a few times, unsuccessfully unfortunately.

Nice weekend retreat - stay on/in property!
Resort has great view of the bay/ocean and a nice Sunday Brunch. Doesn't have a good beach anymore, as it washed away. Crowded area of town, but staff is friendly and wants to help you. Very nice spa and people to treat yourself with. This island doesn't have much better dining than you'll find in the resort, so enjoy the restaurant and pool side dining.

The staff are amazing!
The staff are what makes this hotel really sing - special mention to Jamanca, Paul & Gabriel on the Events Team; Anin on reception; Shalil in the A&D; and our lovely housekeeper, Emira. The hotel has issues with the beachside as they know but they are doing their very best to minimise the problems. My only complaint is the DJ music can get very loud and difficult to get away from.
