Vacation Envy tips

To give you a little taste of what the Vacation Envy book entails, we're sharing some of the tips. If you're ready for a lesson in nailing the perfect Insta-shot, these are totally for you!

Before You Shoot:

Consider your lenses

Whether you’re shooting on a phone or a DSLR camera, there are many different lens add-ons and options that will help you get the best shot. Lenses are a great enhancer for a photo on your phone, but when using a DSLR camera you’ll want to make sure you know the three main components: aperture, ISO and shutter speed. In our Vacation Envy tips and tricks book, our influencers share their cheat sheets for these three components.

Timing is key:

Shooting during golden hour, which is an hour after sunrise and an hour before sunset, almost always guarantees a great photo, especially when you shoot the photo horizontally.

Styling yourself:

Pinterest is your BFF when it comes to outfits, posing ideas, and all other inspirations. Use Pinterest for styling ideas and remember to travel with location appropriate props, they'll totally enhance the vibe.

Flatlays:

Everyone loves a well styled flatlay! Don’t be afraid to try this one out. Sit close to a window with lots of natural light, arrange (and re-arrange) your food or other subjects as much as you need, get high above the image and snap away!

Use your angles:

It’s all about working the camera. Find what angle flatters you best and run with it. Keep in mind creativity is key with angles too, you never know when you’re going to get a unique shot because you did something different.

Before you post

Find an editing app:

Find an app that you are comfortable editing your photos in. Filters can make a world of a difference.

Saving your images:

Once your photos are edited and ready to go, download them to drobox or another photo sharing drive so they are accessible through all devices.

Once you’ve posted:

Aesthetics:

Keep in mind your overall Instagram feed. You want your Instagram to have an overall feel when people scroll through images.

#Hashtags:

When choosing hashtags do research on the location and the aesthetics you’re interested in. Save these hashtags you use often so you can easily copy and paste when needed.

Engaging:

Tag companies and brands in your photos. You never know, that company may want to repost your photo. A great way to engage your audience is to always respond to their comments, even if it is just a “thank you.” And most importantly, engage with others who have similar aesthetics and interests as you, you can never have too many Instagram friends!

A few other important notes:

Consider changing to a business account if your main objective is to grow!

Post, daily, on your stories. This will help keep followers engaged with you and your brand.

Save others’ images to get inspiration for your own shots.

Find your style.

Don’t give up.

Be yourself.

Don’t stop having fun.
