It may be faint for some, but there’s finally a light at the end of the winter tunnel. Summer is right around the corner and all we can think about is the beach. As we quickly approach the halfway point of the year, there’s truly no better time to start planning your tropical summer vacation. Here are five signs it’s time for a beach getaway this summer.
1. Your mind needs a break
If there’s one thing that we’re most thankful of the beach for, it’s the ultimate relaxation you feel while you’re relaxing on the sand, listening to the waves gently crash ashore. When you’re constantly glued to your computer screens in an office setting, always running in and out of patient rooms in a hospital or continuously planning for the days/weeks ahead at work, it’s always a good idea (and healthy!) to take mental breaks from reality to de-stress and even feel more inspired.
2. You don’t remember the last time you treated yourself
Self-care is important. But sometimes, when you get caught up in your daily routines, it’s easy to forget to make time for it or you end up too tired to do anything about it. There’s no better way to treat yourself than with a beach getaway. Indulge in a day at the spa, have a glass of champagne with breakfast, spend your days by the pool and watch the sunset each night from the soft sand or your balcony.
Whether you’re getting away with the kiddos, your besties, your other half or going solo, be sure to check out these fantastic all-inclusive, family-friendly or spa and wellness resorts in the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America.
3. You’re tired of constantly responding to emails, phone calls and pages
If you feel yourself being pulled all over the place at work or constantly having to “catch-up” on unread emails, it’s time to let your colleagues, students or patients know you’ll be out of office for a few days. We all need a break at some point, and there’s nothing quite like enjoying an ice-cold piña colada or margarita on the beach to help you unwind and rejuvenate your mind and body.
4. You’re craving some fresh air
If you’re spending almost 95 percent of your day, five or more days a week, inside a hospital, classroom or office building, then it’s time for some fresh, sea-breeze air. Getting away from your everyday environment, even for a couple of days, will help you feel much more motivated and energized to get back into a routine when you return from your beachy summer vacation. As True Beach Lovers, we can only go so long without feeling the salty-tropical breeze and sunlight on our skin.
5. You rely on recorded sounds of the ocean to lull you to sleep at night
Work and everyday life can be stressful–we’re right there with ya! If you find yourself constantly tossing and turning throughout the night, reaching for your phone to play sounds of ocean waves and waking up still feeling unrested, then chances are it’s time for a beach break.
Orfeu Buxton, associate professor of biobehavioral health at Pennsylvania State University, says that our brains identify the sounds of ocean waves and other “whooshing” noises as non-threats, which acts as a calming mechanism. So, basically, science agrees.
