Paradise is a lot closer than you think–did you know that Grand Bahama Island is only 55 miles east of Florida? As the northernmost island of the Bahamas, this sandy slice of heaven is a hot spot among snowbirds on the East Coast and in the Midwest, but True Beach Lovers near and far are welcome to enjoy this perfect paradise! We’re giving you all the deets on what to know before you go.
When to Travel
The driest, sunniest, and busiest time to visit is between December and April. But to be honest, the weather rarely dips below 60 degrees, so there’s never really a “bad time” to get your vacay on in Grand Bahama. The island does fall within the hurricane belt, so just be on the lookout for storms if you’re planning on going between June and November.
Things to Do
Grand Bahama Island has one of the world’s largest underwater cave systems, so if you’re feeling adventurous, we definitely recommend suiting up for a dive. The UNEXCO Dive Center in Port Lucaya offers a variety of activities for both experienced and non-experienced divers. You can even swim with the dolphins in the open ocean!
Where to Stay
The Bahamas is studded with beautiful beach resorts, including some totally awesome all-inclusive options. Because let’s be real–the beach is better when everything’s included! Some of our favs in Grand Bahama are Lighthouse Pointe at Grand Lucayan (the oceanfront infinity pool is cray-sea gorgeous) and Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach (this place has so many activities to choose from–it’s perfect for the fam).
Now that you know the basics, you can start planning your Grand Bahamian getaway. And lucky for you, CheapCaribbean makes it easy! Your vacay is just a click away–seriously, it’s that easy.
