There are plenty of reasons why True Beach Lovers near and far flock to the Bahamas for some vitamin sea–I mean, have you seen photos of its turquoise shores? It’s not a hard sell! But there’s way more to this island paradise than what meets the eye. Here are our top four reasons why a vacay in the Bahamas is a vacay you’ll never forget.
The Diving Is Out of This World
Right off the coast of the Bahamas is the Andros Barrier Reef, the world’s third-largest barrier reef, measuring 190 miles long! The water here is so clear that you can see as deep as 200 feet below the surface. Obvi, it’s an amazing place for snorkelers and scuba divers alike. The Abacos have shallow dive sites perfect for beginners to intermediate divers, but if you’re looking for a real thrill, dive down and peep some famous shipwrecks! They’re spooky–but also totally awesome.
Historical Sites are Plentiful
If you’d rather stay dry, there’s plenty to do and see on land! Obviously, lounging on the beach is one of our favorite pastimes, but we totally recommend checking out some historical sites, too. Nassau is home to beautiful pastel colonial architecture and was once the hub for the real pirates of the Caribbean! So, if you’re a history buff, travel back in time and explore Parliament Square and Blackbeard’s Tower. Who knows–you may even discover some buried treasure.
It’s Totally Instagrammable
You may not be able to see pigs fly in the Bahamas, but you can surely see them swim! That’s right–pigs run wild and free at Exuma’s famous Pig Beach. No one is quite sure where they came from, but the pigs have become quite the attraction over the years. We definitely recommend taking a boat out to Big Major Cay and splashing around in the shallow shores with these cute little locals. Don’t forget to snag that epic Instagram pic!
The Fun Never Stops
It’s always a party in Paradise Island! Whether you’re on a vacay with the kiddos or enjoying an adults-only getaway, you’ll be endlessly entertained.
