There are a number of eco-friendly adventures in Mexico, but something about the eco-friendly adventures in Akumal and Tulum always wows us. We know, you probably got to this little beach area because you wanted a super chill, relaxing beach vacation, but Akumal and Tulum offer far more eco-friendly adventures than just hanging on the beach, and they will totally wow you.

Yal Ku Lagoon

You know the feeling, when you’re at an aquarium, and you walk through one of the tunnels where the fish swim all around you? That’s the feeling you get when snorkeling or swimming in the Yal Ku Lagoon. The lagoon is an estuary, which means it is a point where salt water meets fresh water. The combination of waters, lush vegetation and wide array of fish you’ll encounter on this eco-friendly adventure will have you forgetting you’re in the real world.

Snorkeling with Sea Turtles

There's a reason we voted Akumal one of the Top 7 Best Places to Snorkel in the Caribbean... The beaches in Akumal are swimming with sea turtles, no pun intended! The best spot to dive in and swim with them would have to be the beach at Secrets Akumal. But please remember, while these creatures are very friendly you still need to respect their personal space and more importantly, their habitat.

Tip: if you need equipment you can rent at the Akumal Dive shop. However, we always recommend bringing your own snorkeling gear for hygienic reasons.

Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve

Ready to experience tons of different ecosystems all in one adventure? Make your way through the jungle to the Sian Ka’an Biosophere Reserve where you can spend the day swimming with the turtles or dolphins, exploring underwater while snorkeling, doing yoga on a paddle board at sunset or just floating through the lagoon. Wanna stay as close as possible to this awesome, eco-friendly adventure? Check out the Sian Ka'an at Grand Tulum and Luxury Bahia Principe Sian Ka'an Resorts!
