You want to unplug and forget the hustle and bustle of your day-to-day life–you need a vacay. Your must-haves are soft white sands, great island vibes, a tropical breeze… and no passport requirement. Have no fear! We have just the spot for you.

Meet St. John, the ultimate laid-back island destination in the U.S. Virgin Islands (hence the no passport requirement) for True Beach Lovers looking to soak in the natural beauty of the Caribbean. It may be the smallest U.S. Virgin Island, but don’t let its size fool you–there’s so much to do and see! Here’s our ultimate island itinerary to maximize your time in paradise.

Cruise into Cruz Bay

Cruz Bay in St. John

There isn’t an airport on St. John, so you’ll have to fly into neighboring St. Thomas and catch a ferry. It’s only about a 45-minute trip from dock to dock. Once you get off the boat, it’s time to get settled.

You won’t find many resorts on the island, but the Westin St. John Resort & Villas is by far the most luxurious. It’s a fabulous hideaway on the shores of Cruz Bay with a world-class spa, spacious accommodations and a quarter-acre, freshwater pool. It’s the perfect home base to come back to after a day of exploring!

Sweet Hiking Trails

Hiking

Remember when we said there’s so much to do and see on the island? Two-thirds of St. John is a protected National Park, so the island’s terrain is untouched, unfiltered and totally unbeatable. A hike through the park is the best way to soak up all the beauty–the Reef Bay Trail is a three-mile trek that takes you past remains of the island’s sugar mills, local flora and fauna, ancient rock carvings and ends with a sweet, sugar-white beach.

But Wait, There’s MORE

Trunk Bay

Not only is there great hiking on the island, but there are amazing underwater trails, too! Trunk Bay’s Coral Trail is a hit among snorkelers and scuba divers alike. You can follow the underwater signs marking species of coral and types of fish as you swim along the shore. The beach itself is great for sunbathing, so it’s the perfect spot to spend a relaxing, but adventurous day.

End a Long Day at The Longboard

Salmon

After all that exploring, you’ve probably worked up an appetite. Head back over to Cruz Bay for an unforgettably fresh seafood experience at the Longboard. This Caribbean-inspired kitchen features light and healthy fares coupled with creative cocktails. Our top picks are the cured salmon and the frozen painkiller–you can thank us later.

Now that you’ve got the gist of St. John, you can plan your island getaway! While you’re there, you might as well look at the rest of the USVI, too. Just a thought!
