Sometimes you eat, sometimes you don't.
This was probably a nice resort at one point, but not now. Arrival begins by turning off the main road and driving down a 1/2 mile road pitted with 12-inch potholes. The van never exceed 3 mph as it weaved around the deepest of them. Obviously, the resort is having some sort of stand-off with the government over who will fix it. If the resort catches fire, or you need an ambulance, forget it. Check-in was fine. You have to endure the timeshare sales pitch, but the salespeople were polite enough and luggage made it to the room in a reasonable amount of time. The building where our rooms were was in bad shape. One quarter of the balcony roof along the front had collapsed and was missing. About half of the umbrellas on the beach in front of the building were just sticks in the sand, missing their cover, which was fine because half of the chairs were missing, as well. The interior was clean, and the A/C worked. The resort lost power 6-7 times, and they do not have a generator. The rooms become uninhabitable quite quickly, and it's hard for the A/C to catch up. The water was black at times, see picture. It's not like anyone expected to drink the water, but this was pretty disgusting. The restaurants are ok quality. For comparison, the a la carte restaurants were probably a little better than club med turkoise, but the buffet was way worse, and breakfast was always disappointing. We ate at Bordeaux, but my 15 year-old daughter in chuck taylors was forced to go change shoes. Others were stopped, as well, but the only thing they had in common was being American. We watched others arrive in tennis shoes, shower shoes, hiking boots, and men with open toed sandals. So long as their native language was not English, it was fine. The food was good, and the pace relaxed. The last night we put our names in at Portofino, and the hostess told us the wait would be an hour. (That's fine, and you can't complain about wait times at popular spots.) Two hours later, after checking in twice, the hostess finally admitted she had no idea how much longer it would be. The other restaurants and buffet were closed, and we didn't eat that night. We didn't eat the next morning, because they broke glass in the buffet restaurant and didn't close the restaurant, but stopped serving food. The ocean was nice enough. The water isn't particularly clear, but it just appears turbid and not polluted. There are lifeguard stands, but no lifeguards. I thought the Hyatt/Dreams name meant a certain level of quality, but it does not in this case. I complained about the issues and was offered a voucher for $60-off my next stay. That was almost worse than the black water.

Dreams was a Disaster and Disappointment
we upgraded to a Jr Suite and had no hot water in the outdoor jacuzzi or a lock on door that would function, even after requesting attention 3 consecutive days. Food and Beverage format is a train wreck. No reservations for dinner except for the Teppanyaki restaurant. We waited several hour at three different restaurants for dinner. The whole resort was understaffed for the amount of bookings they had on property. The preferred club concierne staff was clueless. We have stayed a 5 or 6 different Secrets/Dreams resorts and have had good experiences. We were there 8 days and 7 nights for birthday and anniversary and were very disappointed and will not be back.

Very disappointed would not recommend
Overall poor experience. This resort did not live up to any of our expectations. The food was very poor. It was difficult to get into any restaurants - on day three the beach was raked. The swim up bar was closed for several days- the drinks were poor. Rooms were fine- tidy and housekeeping was great. But nothing special. Upgrading to preferred provided no value whatsoever. Very disappointing

waste of money and loose of hope
the hotel room was flooded with dirt. Waste of money. The pool is VERY dirty with french fries and chicken tenders in. Our room was flooded, see photos. It is nearly impossible to find towels at the beach. cocktails were full of sugar. you would be hesitant to sit chairs in the restaurant.

great family trip
grounds weren't as nice as other Dreams we've stayed at. Food was delish. very disappointed that the pool bar was under construction - group of 16 of us was really looking forward to this. the pool bar was makeshift next to the pool.... ratty, old and not inviting at all. there was garbages overflowing throughout the resort- beach was clean, restaurants were delish and service was incredible.
